Fox are desperately out of line on this.
I bought the 3D BR because Im an obsessive fan. It comes with an itunes digital download in the UK whereas the US get a DVD. The US / UK DVD include a selection of deleted scenes, but no audio commentaries. The digital download includes the same deleted scenes selection, plus commentary with Ridley Scott....

So the 3D BR is better than the 2D BR, DVD and Digital Download.

But the Digital Download is better than the DVD.
Who the hell came up with this? Why didn't the DVD have any commentaries? Why didn't the Digital Download get both commentaries? Why are both the DVD and Digital Download missing certain deleted scenes?
Obviously this is a rhetorical question, it's obviously to get you to buy the 3D BR...

Nah sorry. I take your point but I don't buy that. There would be so many instances, if that we're the case, of directors withholding their films and content because fans didn't have the required set up at home. Like Cameron saying 'I'm not putting Avatar onto any home video format unless its 3D'. Or, taken to an extreme, Paul Anderson only releasing The Master as a 70mm print in cinemas and the home. 70mm being the format he filmed it in. The conclusion being that if you wanted to watch The Master at home, you'd need to kit yourself out with a 70mm projector. It would set an unworkable precedent and all for the sake of Prometheus, a mediocre film, at best.
Perhaps if the making of doc on Prometheus was in 3D to illustrate certain points then I'd say fair enough but 3D is merely a layer that supposedly enhances the film. It has nothing to do with content. In all seriousness, I don't believe Scott would treat fans of his films in this way. This is Fox ALL the way. Scott may not have opposed the decision, as he's a business man but I doubt IMHO that be came up with the idea. Anyway, you made a fair point.
The BBFC site has (what looks to be) a combined running time of just over 4 hours for The Furious Gods making of doc. Unfortunately, I can't not just buy the 2D version and miss out on the doc. What can I say? It's an illness. No choice in the matter at all. Must get the 3D set no matter how much it grates to do so.
Having sampled the Ridley Scott audio commentary, and having been a fan of his commentaries in the past, for the first time, I'm finding the sense of smugness running through them slightly off putting. He seems really too enamoured with himself on this track, highlighting where things are 'cool, huh?', and insisting that the film is all explained fully if you'd only pay attention to all the clues and detail he's dropped in there, saying, 'It's all in there if you look".
Unfortunately, I have to say.....the 3D BD package is excellent though. Just a shame it came at the expense of the 2D edition.

I hear you and one hates to be a contrarian but is it worth considering that the Director of the film wanted it to be seen in 3D and as a fan of the film would you not want to see it (either now or in the future when your set up allows) as the Director intended? If you have any possible intention of upgrading to 3D in the future then you are future proofed with the 3DBR. Not trying to defend Fox, just looking on the bright side??

Surely 2 different issues here? 3D or not 3D and Fox messing people about? Personally was very impressed with the 3D of Prometheus in cinema and as someone with 60+ 3DBRs I think I'm in a decent position to say that from my experience the 3DBR tech is good and CAN create more immersive home cinema experiences. But each to their own. As for Fox messing people about, it's not good but you have the choice if whether to buy or not...
I'm aso bothered. I dont even own a 3D tv (and never intend to) but I will have to buy the 3D version to get access to all the extras.

I, for one, AM bothered by this. I saw Prometheus in 3D and as with 99% of 3D features, was completely underwhelmed by it and saw no reason to spend extra buying the eventual 3D BD when it came out. Now, it seems, I have to.
I'm probably not alone in this, but a lot of Ridley Scott fans look forward to the commentaries and 'making of's' on his discs (a fact Fox are no doubt aware of, given their latest shabby tactic) and the fact that at least one of these is missing from the expected BD is very poor. This does, as Chris points out, look like nothing more than artificially boosting sales of 3D discs so that they can point the finger and say 'We believe (over charging people for) 3D is the future and LOOK! Here's proof'.
I don't have a 3D set up at the moment but in time (when the current TV packs up) I would imagine that my next TV will be 3D capable (they all will probably) by default whether I want it or not, so there's no harm 'stockpiling' some 3D content until then, I suppose BUT.....
.....that fact doesn't excuse what Fox have done here. They really can (and I apologise in advance for this) be c***s at times.
I suppose we can still hold out hope that the press release is just plain old wrong on this. I'm sure we'll find out in a weeks time.

Disc 3 Blu Ray/Digital copy. Unclear as to what that means. Why would a Blu Ray disc be needed to only host the digital copy. If so, it would be very difficult for the vast majority of people with PC's & Laptops to actually download the digital copy as most PC's/Laptops don't have BDRom's.
For this reason, to me, this press release looks a little muddled and is why I have fingers crossed that the eventual 2D BD's will hopefully have the 'making of' in it's expected place on the 2D version.
Again, we'll have to wait and see what the 8th brings unless someone gets an early peek at the 2D release discs.

That's fair enough Chris & I can understand why people would be upset. I get the impression, from various media mixed messages, that Fox haven't really known until very recently what they were gonna do with this tittle. Theatrical Cut, Directors Cut etc etc.
Singular wit maybe (I have a very dry sense of humour)? Or perhaps your post came off as a little bit smug? Who knows? What I do know is that some people are upset that Fox waited until less than two weeks before the release to reveal firm details of the extras. The cheap pre-order deals have been and gone, so whereas you might not be bothered, others are.

All I want to know is what is,Theatrical Cut of Film all about, Are they already telling us there is a directors cut and in a month or two we are going to double dip this title, And rip off all the people who went and bought the 1st release.I still will buy the 3D version.

Can I be the first to say 'screw Fox'. It's bad enough that companies have been conning DVD buyers out of extras for ages, but now they have started on Blu-ray consumers in an attempt to artificially inflate 3D sales! And these clowns wonder why people download illegally?
This movie comes out in 2 weeks and still nothing about what special features the blu ray will have yet I wonder why .

How much does that blue banner ruin the overall effect of that image? Wanted the steel but not at the expense fo getting the 3D disc.
I'm definitely getting the steelbook. Although, it's not really exclusive to Play.com. In the UK it might be, but it's available from a number of retailers over here.
Man, I hope that giant head has some relevance to the plot then.
