i'll get this don't know if i want the 2 disc or blu ray since both are same features IT WOULD BE NICE IF BLU RAY DISC CAME WITH A SECOND DISC FOR REGULAR DVD NOT DIGITAL COPIES
Mann did this eh? Didn't know that and haven't had a chance to see it....yet...

John, I'm really excited for you and I'ma let you finish... But The Untouchables was one of the greatest period pieces OF ALL TIME!

Better than Miami Vice, worse than most of Mann's other recent films.
One of the ugliest films I've seen in theatres. The homevideo-look didn't work at all. Looked like a cheap history channel re-enactment(sp)
BADASS cover art, especially the 2 disc. This film was a lot better than I expected. Definite first day purchase.
Nice cover art!
The ugliest looking Michael Mann film you've ever seen. S**tty digital photography that makes MIAMI VICE look good by comparison. Mann sells out his entire cast and crew by diminishing their contributions with inferior digital. A complete waste of time.
Artwork is decent. Kinda agree with you Edgeman05.
Decent art. Was hoping for the poster of him standing in the street holding the gun.
How come Christian Bale is not featured on the dvd cover artwork?
I thought Bale and Depp were the big dual stars for this movie.

Yeah, its a pretty solid red with shades of black wolfarcher. Cannot wait for this myself. After my first viewing in the theaters, I too had mix feelings about the HD-Camera. Second time around though, completely accepted it. Very well done.
The text looks sort of pink... is it supposed to be red? Either way, 2-disc and Blu look classy.
That cover art is 100% creative. I didn't care for this all that much. It was uninteresting, anti-climatic, and just plain useless. ALSO I F**KING HATE THAT HD CAM! Gave me a headache.
Would look a lot better with the original silver color scheme.

Albeit the director's previous works have been successful, I'll still skip on this.
Uh.... this isn't a "cowboy flick."

Took 'em long enough to decide.
Well I am going to pass. It was far boring and Johnny Depp was bland.

The movie was OK. Depp and Bale stand tall, but the best acting comes from Cudrup. I wish he had more time on screen. The HD look was not meant for a period piece such as this, it sticks out like a sore thumb, especially in the nightime shootout. I will definitely pick it up however, because I can't wait to dive into all of the special features.
I was excited to check this out, back in the summer, but the lukewarm reviews scared me away. I'll at least give it a blind buy, since I pretty much love everything else Michael Mann has done, even Miami Vice and Ali.....
I missed this. Damn shame too. But I will rent and see. I loved Collateral Miami Vice was alright and I have never seen Heat

Loved it. First day pickup for me.
Comes out on my birthday. AWesome.

This.
This.
Some parts dragged but some of it was really fantastic. I might pick it up eventually.
I heard this film WAS NOT ALL THAT! But that two stars attached were? I might rent, well see.
Definite DVD buy for me. 2 disc
I can't wait to pick it up just so I can blast the sound and hear what the characters are actually saying. A lot of theaters were having problems with the audio.
A good but very disappointing movie. Still, a fairly impressive tech achievment. I'll pick it up eventually.

Kind fo reminds me of the situation with the sequal to "The Fugitive", "U.S. Marshalls". The rural sequence of Wesley Snipe's chase was shot down a 2-lane high-way (IL Rt. 145) from my town. The scene where he hi-jacks the semi was shot at a now closed down rest area about 25 miles south of town. In fact, I used to drive that road quite a bit back then, and I remember seeing that semi sitting there for quite some time. Never knew that it was a movie prop. (I believe the rest area was already closed at the time) And then when they showed the truck driving around a curve between two tree lines, that was just a few miles north of that rest area. The later, when they showed the truck coming over a bridge meeting two police cars, that was actually south of all that at the Brookport bridge over the Ohio River gong into Paducah, KY. So the actual geographic chronology there really didn't make sense. (Travel north from the rest area, and then later show up 25 miles south of the rest area.)

I really hate to say it but I was bored to death by this flick. The last 30 minutes or so were fair, and some of the music cues were great, but the majority of it was, as NickMichalak aptly stated, dull and lifeless.
I put this above Miami Vice, but far below Collateral, Heat, and the Insider. This is somewhere right around Ali. Not bad, but just not very good.
This didn't interest me much to begin with, but I've heard a lot of negative things so I'll definitely pass.
liked the movie. loved the action scenes.

When will you learn to type up the extras in list form? It gives us a better overview of what's on the disc instead of just typing up the extras one after another. Think about it at least. I'm sure i'm not the only one that find this annoying.
Fantabulous!.... Public Enemies: check. Heat: check.... come on Paramount - Warners and Uni have done their part now bring on the Collateral goodness!!
The HD cinematography called attention to itself way too often in this movie. I'm fine with HD filmmaking as long as it doesn't stick out (like "Benjamin Button" or "District 9"
, but like in Mann's previous movie "Miami Vice" -- it stuck out like a sore thumb. A period piece deserves to be shot on film, having a wobbly camcorder feel to the movie just doesn't feel right.
And the movie... what a disappointment. I expected better from Mann and the actors, not a bloated bore.

So disappointed by this movie. Simply didn't care for any of the characters. I am reading the book the movie is based off of and it is pretty dang good. Otherwise this film has fantastic production design and sound fx. The opening scene is amazing.
pleasantly surprised at all the positive feedback here. i loved the film as well, and i was skeptical of the HD cinematography at first, but i thought it added an interesting bit of realism to the period.
This was easily the worst movie I saw all summer. I can't tell you how many times I checked my watch, hoping it would be over soon. I thought maybe I just didn't get it or that there was something I missed, but afterwards my friend backed me up and we spent the next few days talking about what a poorly made film it was.
I agree with what what Nick said. The characters were one-dimensional, and I really couldn't tell any of them apart since they all looked the same in their trenchcoats and fedoras. The movie barely had a plot, it was more like a series of scenes loosely strung together, some of which completely lacked any kind of explanation. I love Michael Mann films, but I honeslty feel like he just gave up halfway through this one and so did most of his actors, especially Bale.
Bottom Line: If you want to watch a great bank heist film with great characters on either side of the law, watch Mann's 'Heat' instead. It's incredible.

2-disk DVD...YES!
great set of extras especially on the SD...might be a blind buy for me

I heard great things.
Christian Bale is one of the greatest.
Blind buy.

The Untouchables Meets Heat
I will definately be picking this one up. I loved it.
I am a MAJOR, MAJOR fan of Michael Mann. His work has inspired the majority of my own filmmaking endeavours, but this was a dull, lifeless movie. The characters come off as rather one-dimensional because there are next to scenes building up depth in any of them. At least "Miami Vice" had good action scenes, a strong 10-15 minute opening, and excellent cinematography. In this film, the camera is never steady, and there's maybe two wide shots in the whole flick. Really is a cinematographer's nightmare. Bale & Depp are severely underused in this film.

My parents saw this and thought it was decent. I myself never got around to the theaters to see this, so I will NetFlix it. Not right away, though. I'm still a little miffed I couldn't be an extra on-set because of my tallness. I'm 6 foot 5, and I think Depp is what? 5 foot 9? Anyway, I'm sure they'll take the poster and use it for the art.

My dad and I missed out on this one along with "Angels & Demons," so this one will go straight off from Netflix.
didnt like this much, it wasnt terrible but it was just well....meh. sorry to use a lame internet term like that. lol
but i saw it with my very gorgeous friend so it'll always bring a smile thinking back on seeing it.
