Does this mean there's a Region 1 release of it coming, as well? I sure hope so...
Optimum don't distribute in America, so no.
There is already a very good Criterion State side and an also decent Australian DVD too. The current UK DVD is pretty poor though.

The Documentary is 68 minutes and is therefore likely to be the same one on the R4. If I were to choice now I'd get the R4 myself but this UK DVD may beat both it and the Criterion.

Criterion has a great selection of Kurosawa films and Samurai film in general. Pretty much all classic cinema in R1 too. Criterion DVDs are treasures. Still need to see Rashomon.

Rashomon has just been restored at 4K by Lowry Digital and is premiering in America on September 18th:

I wonder what are the chances of Optimum getting the retorted print?
If Criterion get the HD rights i wouldn't be be surprised if they reissued their existing edition with a restored HD transfer.

I'd say that if you've never seen a Kurosawa flick, Rashomon is a pretty good place to start.
It's NTSC-PAL...
I've got the check disc, runtime 88 minutes.
