Ravenous (US - BD RA)
We've updated the news with the official specs and a release date...
Starring: Guy Pearce
Scream Factory posted the following on their official Facebook page today:
Quote: *BREAKING!* We know you guys have been hungry for a new title announcement from us for awhile...so here's one to satisfy your appetite...
RAVENOUS - the 1999 cannibal film starring Guy Pearce, David Arquette and directed by Antonia Bird - will be coming to blu-ray for the first time come this June with all-new extras planned!
No other details to report at this time. But check back here in next few months for more updates on this exciting project. The original theatrical poster key art will be used as artwork (as seen here).
I have been a champion for
Ravenoussince it was first released. I genuinely think it is the most undervalued, under-seen major studio picture of my lifetime. Fox's original DVD isn't even anamorphically enhanced and they never showed any interest in moving the title to the HD format. Rumors originally pointed to Twilight Time giving
Ravenousits limited edition treatment, but, for my money, Scream/Shout Factory is the better option, even if they aren't planning any significant new extras or a picture restoration (it's not an old enough film for the image quality to have deteriorated all the much yet).
Here are the specs:
- 1080p, 2.35:1 Video
- DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Sound
- Commentary with Director Antonia Bird and Composer Damon Albarn
- Commentary with Screenwriter Ted Griffin and Actor Jeffrey Jones
- Commentary with Actor Robert Carlyle
- Deleted Scenes with commentary by Antonia Bird
- New Interview with Actor Jeffrey Jones
- Theatrical Trailer
- TV Spot
- Two Still Galleries – Costume Design and Production Design
Here is their early key art, which is based on one of the original theatrical posters, though not the more popular and more attractive 'You Are What You Eat' poster:
Quote: Capt. Boyd (Guy Pearce), a disgraced veteran of the Mexican-American War, gets quietly shipped out to Fort Spencer, an isolated Sierra Nevada mountain outpost inhabited by a motley crew of soldiers half-mad with boredom. But then a frozen stranger named Colqhoun (Robert Carlyle) arrives spinning a terrifying tale of settlers trapped in a cave and forced to eat one another. Using the pretext of survivors needing help, Colqhoun leads many of the fort's men into a deadly ambush, but Boyd escapes, wounded and delirious. Will he and the remaining soldiers be safe from the madman's hunger?
