I thought FilmDistrict assumed all distribution rights from MGM (including home video as well as theatrical). The movie's okay... certainly not a first-day buy.

Not all distribution rights. FilmDistrict assumed theatrical distribution while MGM kept all US auxillary rights to the movie (home media, digital, television, etc.), meaning that it's still MGM's movie.

LOL @ Chris Hemsworth's ridiculous neck and extremely tiny legs...
I just going to rent this one off Directv I heard this movie was beyond bad
There are a load of primary markets where this winner hasn't even opened. The Chinese release will probably look like a trailer for it once the censors there have finished with it.

This wasnt terrible. It was simply a decent flick. It all depends on how much you're willing to buy into the pemise. It can be a lot of fun if you don't think too much about it. I didn't really love the original though.
I wish they would include the original version of the film, where the invaders are the Chinese. Apparently they digitally altered Chinese symbols and dubbed Chinese dialog into North Korean so that they wouldn't upset the Chinese. They wanted to maintain access to the Chinese box office.

How would the in retouched images change the film at all? I get that changing the nationality of the attackers from Chinese to North Korean for the Theatrical might effect some lines of dialogue and some visuals, but how would having both options change the viewing experience enough to warrant a second cut of the film?
