I don't care what those critics over RT said about Afterlife, it was one of the most fun movies I've seen this year. The 3D was so awesome and you've gotta love the highly stylized action sequences. Sure, it's not original (hell, even the action sequences aren't), but that's not why you get in line for these types of movies. Yes, it's disappointing to see 60 million dollars go to a mindless popcorn flick, but sometimes, I like to just go have fun in a movie theater.
I know I'll get slammed for this but I'll take Afterlife any day or over an overrated "feel good" Oscar worthy film. I saw "Pan's Labyrinth" and while it was intriguing, there's no way it deserves a Best Picture nomination. I don't mind slow movies that take their time, but I thought it was way too slow.
Am I saying PL is better than Afterlife? No because you have one film that actually TRIES to be different and one film that aims for the lowest common denominator, but as for reaching its goal, I think Afterlife accomplishes more. It's kind of like junk food. It's REALLY bad but it's so irresistible you can't help but enjoy it.
I might pick up a Blu-ray 3D. The 3D was the best I've seen since Avatar (then again, they both used the same cameras).
BONUS QUESTION: Is it just me or does Saw 7's 3D look A LOT better than Avatar's? Avatar's 3D was amazing, but Saw 7's 3D was just ground-breaking. I mean no ghosting or grain was visible at ALL.

Loved, loved, loved!!! RE:Afterlife! Will def. wish for a gift card this Christmas so that I can pick the blu up on Dec. 28th.
I dont know about it looking better but it looked good to me. I saw avater in dolby 3d and lately i have been going to Real D b/c i find it better and the glasses are new and clean and lighter than the dolby ones.
Thanks but this December, I'm buying SHREK FOREVER AFTER and DESPICABLE ME.
Incredibly stupid, definitely a bad movie, but that's part of why it's fun as all hell. I'll buy it.
I greatly enjoyed this. Miles better than the previous two entries in the franchise. Good casting, stellar action sequences, and I'm glad they got rid of her ridiculous superhuman abilities (albeit rushed and unrealistic) in the opening moments of the film. I will actually buy this one and set it next to my lonely RE copy since the other two didn't warrant purchases. Not even for completion's sake.
i had a feeling it might hit before 2011 so this is cool. i saw this in 2D and plan to buy it that way. but is this the first movie to release the 2D and 3D versions at the same time?
anyway seems to have a decent set of extras on blu so it'll sit nicely next to the previous three movies. i definately understand the "no story, only action" complaints because its true...it seems to be actions sequence after sequence but i love me over the top cheesy "cool" action so i'm in.

What ever happened to the directors cut of the first film? I heard so much but we never got it. We got that alternate ending but there was supposedly a LOT of footage cut to achieve an R rating.
Does the Blu-Ray 3D version contain BOTH 2D & 3D versions of the movie or just the 3D?

I wouldn't go as far as saying groundbreaking but Saw's 3D effects were quite entertainment and definitely got my money's worth. Call me bias anyways. I actually enjoy the Saw movies. Guilty pleasure.
BTW, Avatar on IMAX 3D was AMAZING! I refused seeing it again in RealD. IMAX or nothing.

I'm not slamming your opinion but what does a foreign Fantasy / Drama film from 2006 have to do with this Action / Horror video game adaptation from 2010? It's kinda a random comparison.

I think it only has the 2D version, but correct me if i'm wrong but don't 2D players just play the movie in 2D instead of 3D, wouldn't that make the seperate releases a bit unneeded?

Sweet I'll buy it but just the 2D DVD version. I don't need anything fancy when it comes to this franchise. Hell of a fun movie but dvd is perfect.

I mention it because there are some people that think EVERY oscar-worthy movie is awesome and that EVERY mindless popcorn flick sucks. I'm here to say that's not true 100% of the time.

I liked this movie and the 3D. I just thought the movie ended at the wrong moment
OMG YES! RE:Afterlife was the best movie that came out this year. <3

While I liked Afterlife too, are you sure you would call it "the best movie" of the year? I could see "most enjoyable", but did you forget "The Social Network", "Inception", "Toy Story 3", "How to Train Your Dragon", "Shutter Island", or "Iron Man 2?".

I agree 100%. I felt like the movie had a solid build-up but then the directors just wanted to end the film already and about mid-way when the scene was rolling, they just called "cut" and wrapped it up.

Watched this the other day. Thought it was the worst one yet.
this is my favorite RE movie yet (tied with the awesome RE:APOCALYPSE. the Executioner and Claire's attack scene in the shower and the entire clones attack on Umbrella in the opening was one of my favorite parts of the movie (or any of the RE movies). and this IMO is the ONLY well done LIVE ACTION 3D movie yet (SAW 3D's money grab/scam is an abomination) because they are the first movie to use the Pace Fusion (AVATAR) 3D cams (and i say that as someone who hates 3D for the most part). i have also seen this movie at home in 2D and (for anyone concerned about how it will look if you don't have BR/HD) it looks terrific! i can't wait for the next movie. hopefully they'll be able to make it after Anderson/Milla's 3 MUSKETEERS movie?
and Horrorfan25 (hi!) and i agree %1000. the (for example) INCEPTION snobs or those "too good" for admittedly mindless, fun, popcorn movies are tiresome. you are spot on correct.
i am pissed that the deleted scenes are NOT included in the regular dvd!! as usual those of us who don't have HD/BR or have ANY disposable income to buy them, get shafted. i would have HAPPILY bought this movie (the RE movies, in which i own all three so far, and Milla are in my top 5 ever) but i won't with this. i'll get mine other ways *cough* LOL. PIRANHA 3D is also screwing over regular dvd'ers like me, so i'll stick to my current perfect copy of that movie i already have *cough*. lol.

Hi Dj! Sorry I didn't reply sooner
Anyway, even though I loved "Inception", I do agree that some people get a little carried away and if they see a film that doesn't try to be an Oscar contender, they immediately trash it.
I am so excited to get this and Piranha!!!!
