Yep, definately gotta get this.

Woo Hoo!
I'm glad they have settled for a date - the only problem is that it seems so far away?
Does anyone have an idea of the rumoured extra-long extended edition for the whole set that is meant to be released later next year?

I can't wait to get this. But it's so far away
.

december 14th...I think it shoulda been out in November
That is what the Star Wars DVD set is for...
...to tide us over until December 14th!
It would be cool if they did a limited run in theaters of this cut before it came out on DVD, just to see it on the big screen one last time.

Sweet, I'll be able to finally check these films out when this one is released.
Boxed Set
Peter Jackson is quotes as saying that there will be no extended edition boxed set until they release the films in HD-DVD (or Blu-Ray). However, considering the theatrical releases came boxed together, there's always a slight chance.
Nice, I still have yet to watch the extended editions. I was waiting until this last one so I could be blasted by elves and orks for 12 hours straight...hehehe

Same here. I will be stocking the refrigerator and cupboards with all kinds of non-nutritious goodies for that weekend. Then I will close the blinds and curtains tight, so that I can watch all three extended versions back to back in the comfort of my living room. I just can't wait to have this puppy in my obsessed DVD collector hands!

okay this movie is awesome and really good and is one of the best i have ever seen. But why on earth would anyone wanna see 50 more minutes of this movie. The movie is long enough. The extra footage should be kept into a set of deleted scenes a'la jay and silent bob amd dogma. Of course nobody is gonna agree with me but that is just my opinion
yeah, only I plan to watch them separately in three evenings.
Don't have 12 free hours in a row, unfortunately ;(

people must really have nothing to do if they can sit home watching a movie for 12 hours after they have seen this movie a couple of times

Well, well...I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Giovanni is DVDAnswers' version of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. No matter what the DVD is, Giovanni comes in and poops on the discussion.
There's a name for people like you. It's called a TROLL. Ironically, the LOTR Trilogy has enough of those.

This is awesome, but does anybody know about the "Holiday Giftset" that was advertised with a slip in the two disc version of Return of The King? Is that talking about the minas tirith statue and the symphony DVD or will there be another trilogy pack?
at last
I have a gap in my collection waiting for this nice blue box. The days till December are getting longer and longer! No word on DTS:ES, but I'm sure it will be there. Can't wait for the full screening.
Yo listen David. Shut your mouth. If i saw the movie i am entitled to say anything as long as it is not offensive. All i said is that the 50 minutes should be deleted scenes instead of having to waste 40 dollars. You really need to calm down. And who calls other people trolls. Wow very smart.
Yea David your a total loser...all you do is sit on your couch..watch a movie for 5 hours...crack open a beer...and eat some ho-ho's..dude your a total loser..Giovanni makes total sense..this movie had like 50 mins of drag..something that couldve been prevented
Guys, any further personal attacks like that and you'll find your stay here rather short.

Back on topic...
Guys, guys. What's with all this fighting? Gandalf would not approve.
Giovanni, in my humble opinion, the movies are too SHORT if anything. In particular, I felt Frodo and Sam's progress from Cirith Ungol to Mount Doom was rushed in the theatrical version of ROTK. There is so much detail in the books, that filming everything would be financially prohibitive. (Have you ever read the books?)
Anyway, TheDigitalBits and TheOneRing.net are both reporting that New Line said the release date has NOT been finalized, and the ad placed in Video Store Magazine was in error. (According to the original report from TOR.n, preorders were supposed to start TODAY...went over to Amazon...nothing.)
Frankly I'm getting a little tired of the release date rumors jerking me around. First I heard from the various websites was Dec. 14, then the 7th, then the 14th again, now this retraction by New Line of this ad. :-/

I always thought that we were here to discuss dvd's and let everyone have their own opinions without discrimination.....
I always thought that any posts that we put on this board were subject to the moderator before it actually appeared as posted - or at least could be edited by at a later time - Why did these slip through? I don't agree with censorship but sometimes there is a time and place for it......

It would be a little impractical for a member of the team to sit here 24 hours a day monitoring posts before they go live. However, if we do spot something that we consider to have crossed the line then the appropriate action is taken. We would prefer that these discussion boards be used for positive comments and healthy debate, not for petty bickering and repeated negative comments about films you don’t like.
Guys!
Omg guys!!
Why are you people discussing if the movie is too long or too short or whatever?
If anything, that's the use of DVD yay ^_^. I could either watch the whole movie whenever I want or just watch a specific part I feel like making any movie (even if it exceeds 100 hours) perfect

Re: Length
I think that those that are slating the length of this are missing the reasons a lot of us dont mind it.
1) you watch this at home, not in the cinema, so you can take a break if you want
2) Those that WANT to watch the extended stuff want to do so without breaks in the continuity of the film experience, they want to watch the story flow from one part to the next not have a bunch of disjointed extras slammed together.
3) Films like J&SBSB work okay with extras that way, (and I LIKE that film before you pound me for insulting it) But one like RotK wont work that way its a continuopus narrative where things fit into certain places at cetain times, watching it out of sequence ruins the experience.
4) If you dont wanna have to sit through 50 more mins, go buy the normal cut on DVD and watch that for flips sake. the Books had MUCH more in them, and a lot of us want to see as much as we can of the story in the cinematic medium.
5) Personaly I am planning a nice SOCIABLE time watching all 3 extende films together with some of my frends, 8 of us in a room with chips dips and drink, watching something mavelous and sharing it. taking the odd break so we can empty our bladders and talk about what we have watched. Does that make me sad and loneley? If so then bring it on! I dont mind being sad and loneley with nothing better to do

Royce you put that nicely. Good job!
I am looking forward to the extended version with bated breath. It's not that the fans of the films don't have a life and have the time to sit and watch 12 hours of film. We do have lives, we work, go to school, and socialize with friends and family. We make the time, as anyone with a passion for something would do. Think of it as arranging for a mini vacation. We're just going on a virtual journey to Middle Earth.
