That's not confirmed mind you, it just seems that most catalogue titles are lifted directly from the US release to save money. Doesn't look like it's been re-classified by the BBFC recently though...
How different is the US version? or is it just some stupid headbutt cut?
There's a use of the F word near the end from Will Scarlett and they tend to cut the scene where the sherriff spreads Marrion's legs as she tries to fight him off.
An amputation scene had been heavily cut on the previous releases, aswell as some other things. But the fact this BD is rated 12 as opposed to PG is a good indication it will be uncut. Unfortunately I own the neutered extended version.
Costner has got to be the most bizarre choice for Robin Hood ever. Christian Slater's accent was hilarious as well. So bad it's good (almost). Reminds me of that god awful song from Bryan Adams.
Early Region 1 Blu-Ray reviews aren't promising and indicate this has an uneven/soft transfer as with the special edition DVD. For that reason I canceled my pre-order as by now, any recent films being released on Blu-Ray should have these issues addressed. I cannot believe studios don't learn from issues related to standard-def DVDs before they release to Blu-Ray. Another wasted opportunity as this is a popular title!!!!!!!!!
"recent film"?
Fair enough to want the best transfer possible, but calling Prince of Thieves a "recent film" is a bit much -- it's 18 years old!
I hate to keep pointing this out, but there is no region one with BD. Warner titles aren't region coded anyway.
Blu-ray 'supposedly' better than standard def lol
Keep pointing out the Region code issues as long as you want wont change the fact that they have had YEARS to sort the issues relating to the standard def DVD. Based on the format being/claiming supposedly '5 times' clearer than standard def DVD, who's side of the fence are you actually on and how the hell do you expect people to 'make the change' based on inaccurate claims????
I for one, am getting so fed-up with bulls**t excuses as to why studios cannot release Blu-Ray titles - promising to far surpass standard DVD - in a format so ferkin built-up it's unbelievable that many promises fall so flat without explanation.
Give me a break as far as 'Prince Of Thieves' being 18yrs old. Does that mean that all films of this age have no chance on Blu-Ray and does that mean that standard-def films of an older age are always going to get the 'sub-standard' treatment and basically ending-up similar to an 'upscaled' transfer???
Poor, very poor and I for one have already put 2 Star Trek Blu-Rays on eBay (20/5/2009), what does that tell you about how studio's treat their customers????

You've got to bare in mind Blu-Ray is still in the early stages just like DVD and it's first few years. DVD didn't produce the kind of quality then that it could later on. Going on to DVD from Laserdisc i wasn't completely bowled over by DVD at first either.

It was rated some months ago. All violence, swearing and sexual content restored.
The cuts are far more extensive that the brief details posted here, I have them in a Word file if anyone wants to see them.

Prince of Thieves was always a bit murky and dull. It was like that on 35mm and if the new BD transfer hasn't got that 'HD pop or picture window effect' then it would seem to be a fair representation of the source material. The BD will undoubtably be an improvement over the DVD but it might not warrent an upgrade for a lot of people.
I have the R1 Extended version, purely to see it uncensored, so having a legit uncut UK disc for the first time with albeit slightly improved picture might sway me to buy it when it goes to sale. It's not high on any BD's to buy list though. The Wrestler and T2 come first.

What is the issue people have with the "HD pop" or "picture window" effect? Surely a fresh-from-the-lab film print projected onto a clean surface in a brand new, properly-aligned projector would look much like an Blu-ray disc?

Quite like that cover art but still prefer the original DVD artwork. If it's a port of the US disc then finally it should be uncut in the UK!
