It's the worst of the series, but still pretty good.  Basically, it's a 90 minute teaser for Saw V.

If this is marketed as the "Unrated Director's Cut," I wonder what Lionsgate will inevitably release as the double-dip next October.

Exactly! I didn't bother with the fourth in theaters though because after the third ended everything so nicely I thought this seemed like a lame cash-in sequel.

I personally didn't like the first. I saw it opening weekend and it was so cheesy and laughable. It is really overrated. So I skipped the second in theaters because after the lame first one I didn't care to see this one that much. But it ended up being a pleasant surprise when I rented it on DVD. I didn't love it, but it was very solid. So I made a trip to the theater to see the third, and wow, now that one was actually great. By far the best of the series. I can't believe there are actually a lot of people that liked the other two and didn't like it. It was much smarter than the previous installments.

Anyway, my expectations for the fourth are very low. It doesn't look or sound very good and many people have said it's really hard to follow. Still, I'll rent it on DVD.

i am so sick of these movies. 1 was decent, if only for cary elweys. give me a good story, or buckets of gore. dont try both. these movies are the "i know what you did last summer"s of today. it feels like what would manifest if m night shyamalan remade scream. thats double bad. but hey, thats just me, apparently alot of people like this franchise.

When will they stop making these lame excuses for horror movies?

I like the Saw films.  I bought #1 on a whim one day and dug it.  Bought the unrated cut and loved the extras. Went with my bro for #2 opening night and that one was awesome.  Just viewed #3 and dug that too.  IV should be cool...I hope.

However, love or hate the films, they are visually stunning.  The people involved really know how to create atmosphere.  The editing is cool and the overall direction is slick.  Some will write it off as MTV-style, but I don't agree with that.  

Lastly, someone above made a note about the Hostel franchise.  I bought both recently, and I wasn't sure what to expect.  The first one plays out like a totally different film until about 30-40 mins in.  After that it gets interesting.  I gave it a solid 8.  As for Part 2, that one was fantastic.  Holy c**p...that is all I am going to say.  And yes the gore is cool, but I am talking story wise...I dug it.  Feel free to bash away.

Hmmm...this is going down the path of the dreaded Police Academy movies - one of the scariest horror franchises around!

i agree with what a few others have said... loved the first one, but the sequels all pale in comparison.

first one was a genuine thriller... 2, 3, 4 and most probably any that follow seem ditch great plotting in preference for more gore

I give it 2 months after the release until it comes up with an "even more unrated" edition.

I like the cover. And I want that Saw 4 DVD even though I haven't seen it. But who are they going to release a director's cut on 2-disc DVD in 2008 when they are already releasing it with 1 disc.

Actually BradHamerly it says Uncut edition which means that's the rated edition and the one that says unrated director's cut is the other version. OMG.
