This movie surprised me honestly. I thought 3 showed some definite slowdown in the series but 4 picked up the slack, not to mention gave it the needed "reboot".
Dude. Ryan... ROTTEN.

People keep saying this! There was nothing confusing about any of the twists in the other 3, they were gone through, shown and explained. Which I thought was the point.
I had every intention of picking this up but I hate confused twist endings...something the "SAW" films have expertly avoided (even if the twist in #3 relied too much on luck)...which can kill a film stone dead.

I had thought that the Saw trilogy had run its course, with the third being kinda below-par and I had my reservations about this one, but it was actually pretty good with some damn good scares!
I thought it was better than 2 & 3.
Definitely the worst in the series (and most confusing). But I'll still buy it! I can't wait!
Artwork added for the rated edition...
I know that a lot of u worried about it coming out October 2009 but now they've changed it and now it comes out October 24, 2008.
I liked the 3rd movie alot more than I did after watching #4 (very rare that the follow up to a film made me like it better than I did the first time) for me there was something missing with the third film... But the 4th filled in gaps that could have still been there..
I like the cover. And I want that Saw 4 DVD even though I haven't seen it. But who are they going to release a director's cut on 2-disc DVD in 2008 when they are already releasing it with 1 disc.
Actually BradHamerly it says Uncut edition which means that's the rated edition and the one that says unrated director's cut is the other version. OMG.

I double-dipped on the first three movies and I'm tired of doing that. I'm waiting 'til October for the 2-disc SE.
I give it 2 months after the release until it comes up with an "even more unrated" edition.
Saw III's plot is pretty great, actually.
i agree with what a few others have said... loved the first one, but the sequels all pale in comparison.
first one was a genuine thriller... 2, 3, 4 and most probably any that follow seem ditch great plotting in preference for more gore

Well the highres artwork for the dvd proves it. A 2 disc director's cut of Saw IV will be in stores october 2008. Just be patient people. Just like I did. I love this franchise but I waited and only bought the Saw trilogy 6 disc. And now, I'll wait till october to buy this movie.
so is this not the Unrated Directors Cut any more, because the new artwork just says Unrated cut??
Highres artwork added for the unrated cut
this franchise has been milked a little too mych I think.
Why must dvdactive members feel the need to bash other members? If someone likes the movie so be it. I'm amazed at the amount of hate towards this series and Hostel...when most everyone here praised the film Feast (Which I thought was horrible). Eitherway I probably won't pick this up as there was nothing wrong with it but it just fealt lacking and yes I understood the ending!
Full details added, along with highres Blu-ray artwork. I'm still waiting on highres art for the standard def releases. Will add that shortly...
I bet that jabroni Xage buys every single version of this horrible movie. Talk about money well spent!
Hmmm...this is going down the path of the dreaded Police Academy movies - one of the scariest horror franchises around!

It does make sense if you take the time to watch it right. As for Hostel being better you should be locked up for saying these films are better there utter c**p.

My favorite of the sequels, Spoiler but I hated Matthew's death
This was an ok movie. I liked it more then 3 but less then the others.
I like the Saw films. I bought #1 on a whim one day and dug it. Bought the unrated cut and loved the extras. Went with my bro for #2 opening night and that one was awesome. Just viewed #3 and dug that too. IV should be cool...I hope.
However, love or hate the films, they are visually stunning. The people involved really know how to create atmosphere. The editing is cool and the overall direction is slick. Some will write it off as MTV-style, but I don't agree with that.
Lastly, someone above made a note about the Hostel franchise. I bought both recently, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The first one plays out like a totally different film until about 30-40 mins in. After that it gets interesting. I gave it a solid 8. As for Part 2, that one was fantastic. Holy c**p...that is all I am going to say. And yes the gore is cool, but I am talking story wise...I dug it. Feel free to bash away.

Trade ad as it appears in a two-page magazine layout; there's a space between 'B' and 'O' because they are meant to be printed on two separate pages.

When will they stop making these lame excuses for horror movies?
The Hostel franchise is much better than SAW. Please stop with the lame and convoluted plot twists that dont make sense.
i am so sick of these movies. 1 was decent, if only for cary elweys. give me a good story, or buckets of gore. dont try both. these movies are the "i know what you did last summer"s of today. it feels like what would manifest if m night shyamalan remade scream. thats double bad. but hey, thats just me, apparently alot of people like this franchise.
The worst movie of the series (I gave it a 0/10) and one of the worst of the year. And this is coming from someone who likes the series and thinks the third is the best of them all.

Exactly! I didn't bother with the fourth in theaters though because after the third ended everything so nicely I thought this seemed like a lame cash-in sequel.
I personally didn't like the first. I saw it opening weekend and it was so cheesy and laughable. It is really overrated. So I skipped the second in theaters because after the lame first one I didn't care to see this one that much. But it ended up being a pleasant surprise when I rented it on DVD. I didn't love it, but it was very solid. So I made a trip to the theater to see the third, and wow, now that one was actually great. By far the best of the series. I can't believe there are actually a lot of people that liked the other two and didn't like it. It was much smarter than the previous installments.
Anyway, my expectations for the fourth are very low. It doesn't look or sound very good and many people have said it's really hard to follow. Still, I'll rent it on DVD.

I'm willing to bet that cover art will change. I can't see stores like Walmart carrying that cover.
I'm not complaining though, I love it and hope to God it stays!

Saw 4, AWKWARD!
It's the worst of the series, but still pretty good. Basically, it's a 90 minute teaser for Saw V.
If this is marketed as the "Unrated Director's Cut," I wonder what Lionsgate will inevitably release as the double-dip next October.

might as well announce Saw 100
Loved it though not my favourite. I'll get it. The upgrade is hardly worth the wait so I'll get this one.
Hope they stick with that cover nice.
I thought the first saw was ok. But now they've over done it. One saw film was enough. Or at least 2. I just hate how every year when they release it they also come out with the one disc. Then next year they release a 2-disc edition. They are trying way too hard. Although seeing 3 mre films wouldn't kill me.
Look if you don't like these films shut the hell up.There's nothing wrong with them if you have nothing good to say about them then don't simple.
I went in with ZERO expectations and came out pleasantly surprised. Dare I say it, but these films got better and better as they progressed and I love how they are all connected.
Will definitely buy this on release day. I hope they stick with the transparent case and art like they have with the previous films.

It wasn't bad and the series isn't worth double dipping, ever.
With that being said I hated the original Saw film and have enjoyed its sequels thus far.
Not saying they are great but they are better than most horror released lately.
And this one had the most confusing ending as it tries to push too many twists at once and it took most of the ride home to sort it all out.

So far it has grossed $62,229,842 in the U.S. and another $37,000,000 internationally. That's a total of $99,229,842. Not bad for a movie that cost $10,000,000 to make. Even if you consider the cost of prints and advertising, this is movie is a hit no matter how you slice it.
By the time a brain wounds up on screen, one can only wonder how low this series has fallen just for shock effect.
Yea, that's a typo okay, more like 'BOX OFFICE S**T' and since when did 65mil constitute a 'HIT'... JEEZ!!!
Who the f**k watches these anyway? Oh wait...never mind...the DVDActice staff does....amongst countless other horror/slaher flicks.
Since the third one was so terrible, I passed on this. I think I was wise. Even a second Saw was sort of stretching it, let alone the c**p third one.
So they stole the tag line for this flick from Admiral Ackbar?
i'd wait for the Ultimate Saw 1 to 100 box set.
What a c**p series.
What a c**p series.
Not seen the last two, nor really interested. There is only so many inventively lethal contraptions & ridiculous twists I can stand. I can see this going down the road of the American Pie franchise... Saw Presents: Terror Clown Camp. Or some s**t.
Typo on the trade ad. They put "B OX OFFICE HIT". I always thought it was spelled BOX.
Can't wait! This is what my birthday money is going toward!
I'm going to pass on this one. By far the worst of the series.
With the utmost respect, are you guys INSANE?!?!...
With the exception on the first Saw movie which was creepy, tense and relatively original, all of the following sequels are just absolutely AWFUL!!! **DO NOT BUY THIS DVD**

Everybody might just as well not buy this release, since its like, 100% sure there will a real "Unrated Director's cut" a few months down the road.
PASS! Nothing is as more overrated as the SAW series.

This was my least favorite of the series, but I still liked it. I just think I've lost interest in the whole Saw series ever since the third film. I'll still buy this, and still see Saw V and whatever future films come out but, it's just not as good anymore.
'It's a trap!'
Got that right. 'Unrated Director's Cut' eh? Not buying it this time. I was suckered into that trick for Saw III, figuring that I could buy the first release and there wouldn't be a re-release (because this time it was Unrated right off the bat). They burned me. Not going to fall for it again. I'll hold off on this one. But I'll give it a rent to check it out.
I think I liked IV better than III. Both IV IMO isn't as good as I or II. Still, regardless of how fast they pump these out, I find it to be a rare horror series that I do actually enjoy. Even with all the 'MTV directing', of which I am not a fan.

better than the 3rd, I quite liked it.
A confusing ending!?? Surely the endings are what give the "Saw" film's their special place. (which is why the based purely on luck and impossible to plan timing twist in #3 let it down...though it still made sense).
I'm a Saw junkie and will definitely buy this. It wasn't the best of the series and had one of the most confusing endings in the series, but overall it was entertaining. I'm still amazed they managed to use a dead character for 115 minutes!
...or you can wait for the UN-UNRATED Director's Extended cut which is bound to come out before Saw 5!
WHAT??? WHAT??? Were you on crack when you watched the movie??? I'll send you 20 bucks and you send me a baggy of your best stuff, because this was the BEST in the series next to II!
This was definitely the worst Saw movie. Still entertaining. I probably won't see it again until the release of the 5th one, whenever that is, since apparently it's NOT next year.
