Acclaimed cult writer Joss Whedon’s feature length follow up to his excellent Firefly series, Serenity, is due for a February 8th region four release. Unlike the R1, it will be housed inside a lovely tin that features the original theatrical artwork. The film will be presented in an anamorphic widescreen format with English audio in Dolby Digital 5.1. The disc will also contain supplementary materials exclusive to the region four disc including A Filmmakers Journey - Journey with Joss from Script to Screen, Joss Whedon Q&A Session - Filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Extended Scenes, Take a Walk on Serenity - Cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship and The Green Clan - Expose on Cinematographer Jack Green and his team. Additional extras include deleted scenes, outtakes, Future History - The Story of Earth That Was, What's In A Firefly, Re-lighting The Firefly, Joss Whedon Introduction, Feature Commentary and Easter Egg - We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time. however, universal pictures australia have decided to print the sleeve double sided. the reverse of the sleeve will be a direct duplicate of the front cover, minus the ugly classification markings!:

there will also be several retailer exclusives. jb hi-fi will be selling the dvd with a slipcase that has joss' signature on it. sanity will include a bonus mouse pad with each dvd. ezydvd will be selling the dvd inside a metal tin:

I got my region 1 dvd on the 14th, but i've already pre-ordered 2 copies with the slipcase and will be pre-ordering 2 copies with the tin. 6,000 slipcases and 7,000 tins will be available.

I'm gonna proberly buy the Region 4 cause of the bonus stuff but I haven't seen the film but i've heard great things and the saw the frist q0 minute thing and I was like "WHAT THE F**K"

we usually get screwed with dvds, but lately we have been getting 1 and 2 disc editions of films immediately... rather than 6 months down the track (ie, i, robot, the day after tomorrow, etc). hopefully you'll be able to order yourself a region 4 copy with one of the nice packaging options!

Ah. Thanks for all the tips on where to buy this stuff (jbhifi, ezydvd). I've been wondering how I could possibly get my hands on these outside of ebay and my questions have been answered. You guys completely rock.

And, yes, compared to this, the R1 sucks. I hate the sh*te artwork that seems to be ripping off "Land of the Dead". Thanks to the people above, I have ordered my copy of the tin set.

The Joss Whedon signature case is awesome. I think the other artwork is c**p, but that is a nice case. Simple, pretty...nice logo. I want it!

i think I made the right choice in not buying the DVD yet... I had a feeling they'd be releasing a special edition and just seeing this R4 DVD only makes realize there will definitely be a collector's edition or something here in the US.

The cover art for the R4 looks better than teh R1 art. Shame R1 has less extras. Maybe they should have held off and released the R1 with all the extras that the R4 will have.

I already got the R1 for Xmas, but may consider getting this R4 for my gf's b-day. Ya' gotta love tins minus dumb classification signs of course. One hell of a great movie!

They should release a double sided edition in the UK where you have a certificate on the one side and then a none cert on the other.

yea..the tins dont have the rating on it..but inside it, it is just the regular dvd

but double sided = WIN!
all the studios should do that...and i'd happily buy r4 dvds again..coz I live in aus and am refraining from touching them

That was my biggest worry too. I tend to avoid R4 like the plague. However judging by the image on Ezy DVD, it seems that there is no classification logo to be seen. Fingers crossed it remains that way...

Looks great, and the price converts well, but my only concern is will it have those God-Awful huge ugly Aussie ratings stickers printed all over it? It would be a shame to disfigure such a lovely package with tacky bad design, such as those. A niggly point I know. But I think it would be ruined if they did.
