Underrated? I thought this movie was a p.o.s. I feel horrible this is being sent to Europe.
If there is a fan of this movie, please clue me in. Why should I take this out of my "worst of" list?

I love this film. It's all about the atmosphere, baby.
i think this movie is OVERRATED. I thought it was terrible, and it was even shot a couple towns over from where I lived at the time.
Anderson with with this film and then "The Machinist" has become a master of mood pieces.
This movie is dreadful
Loved this movie!

Because it was rich in atmosphere. What makes a movie scary is what you CANT see as opposed to what you CAN see. I think this movie is brilliant. I'll take this over some slasher flick any day.

This movie really polarizes its audience, eh? I, for one, adored this movie, because it wasn't your typical "haunted house" horror flick. Thought was actually put into this one, and i'm glad that some things were left to the viewer's discretion. Like everyone else is saying, it's the atmosphere that kills you, but it's also the many places the script takes you. Certain reveals, certain hints... it would have been very easy to just lay everything out for you, but it doesn't. It leaves you to extrapolate your own conclusions as to what was going on and why. They could have gone over-the-top for gore, but that's not the point of the movie. Instead, they focus on tension and putting you in the scariest of places - both physically and mentally - the dark where you don't know what could creep up on you.
I rented it from Netflix, watched it, sent it back, and immediately put it back on my queue as a reminder to buy it sometime.

I like Session 9 quite a bit but I'm fine with my R1 copy.
