Silence of the Lambs (US - DVD R1)
Fox/MGM Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for a new collector's edition
Title: Silence of the Lambs (IMDb)
Starring: Anthony Hopkins
Released: 30th January 2007
SRP: $26.98
Further Details:
Fox/MGM Home Entertainment has announced a two-disc collector's edition of Silence of the Lambs which stars Anthony Hopkins, and Jodie Foster. The set will be available to own from the 30th January, and should be priced at around $26.98. Extra material will include an Inside the Labyrinth making of documentary, a two part 'Page to Screen' documentary, a Jonathan Demme and Jodie Foster three-part documentary (The Beginning, Making The Silence of the Lambs, and Breaking the Silence), a Scoring the Silence featurette, and an original 1991 making-of featurette. Completing the package will be twenty-two deleted scenes, outtakes, TV spots, an Anthony Hopkins phone message, and trailers. On top of all that, the set will carry a four-page booklet and a number of exclusive Hannibal Lecter recipe cards.
Also available from the 30th January will be the Hannibal Lector Collection Giftset - a three-disc package that includes Silence of the Lambs, along with Michael Mann's Manhunter and the Ridley Scott directed Hannibal. This will retail at around $29.98. As this is a three-disc collection, we can only assume that only disc one of the Silence of the Lambs collector's edition will be included. I assume this will be the DTS version other territories have had for a while now.

Great....another edition.Looks good but i'll stick with my Criterion edition!!!
Pity the commentary is STILL a Criterion exclusive. I hope they fix the credits mess up from the European DVDs.
It was fine on the SE but the UE has most of the beginning credits missing, it starts just after SOTL should've appeared on screen (I think).
The European UE has 3 hours extras, much more than the SE.
p.s - Great cover art though.

Good thing I didn't cave and get the MGM single FOOLSCREEN version.
Hannibal Lecter recipe cards?! Seriously, that's scary.
Nice! I KNEW I should not have bought it even though it was really cheap. Good thing I waited, because this looks like a sweet edition! Awesome cover art also!
Really good art, but why would I need anything other than my Criterion edition? Seriously.
I'd love to get my hands on the Criterion version but I guess this will do.
The Criterion edition is really not that good -- all it has over the MGM DVDs is the audio commentary. I believe it contains absolutely no video features whatsoever. I mean, it's a good track -- I have it -- but no way would I call the Criterion better than this edition looks for just one feature, especially considering this one has a whole-new three-part documentary featuring Jodie Foster and such absolutely kick-ass cover art.
That *is* nice artwork.
Would be really cool if it was bound in the canvas and actually had the sticker things (what are they called again) on it.

Excellent artwork, still pissed that I never got around to buying the Criterion or the new special edition, so I think I'll snatch this one up. Maybe this will be packaged with the two disc Hannibal, because I'd like to pick em both up (I know, shoot me, but I dug Hannibal).
Ah, but JckRbbitSlim - why would anyone shoot you? Hannibal was both the best book, film and soundtrack.

The Criterion is non-anamorphic for starters.

cool beans
I was hopping this one to be in HD-DVD.What's the status on MGM in regards to HD-DVD/Blu-Ray?
Still,I have the UK special edition and that's good enough in the extras departement, but It could use a revamp on the picture departement.

Fox distributes MGM's content, and since Fox is Blu-Ray only, this would likely come as BD-only.
I'm happy with my OOP MGM widescreen SE, so I'm out until an HD release come along.

True, And even the MGM transfer is better. But I'm a Criterion wh**e so I'd still love to have it.

Guess I have to double-dip. I've got the SE, which was pretty good in its own right if I recall. I know the Criterion had a nifty audio commentary with an FBI agent, but otherwise I thought the SE was better.
Great package + new documentary = upgrade. Just like with my Patton DVD not so long ago.

And THAT's why I've been waiting to buy it.
Really? Someone other than me loved Hannibal? I didn't think that was possible....

I would assume so, though. Hopefully all three have cover arts as nice as this.
I didn't know the majority of people disliked Hannibal(I'm refering to those that liked Silence of the Lambs-trust me,there are a lot of girly men and screeching housewives that say "yuch" to that movie.Meaning It's too gory and they're sissies)in the States and the U.K until now.I mean, around Europe It's very well liked and got good reviews.
I like it a lot(specially the soundtrack)and place it way above Red Dragon(which I liked, mostly because of the cast),but not as high as Manhunter and Silence of The Lambs-those two are classics.
P.S:I also have the criterion edition of SOTL and trust me the SE is way better,in terms of audio and video(anamorphic)and special features(the audio comentary in the criterion is nice but that's it,the extras in the S.E are vastly superior)

one of my all time faves but I'll stick with my Criterion edition.
LOVE LOVE LOVE- the artwork. SO good. I love this movie and don't own it yet on DVD. i'm so glad I waited. Does anyone know what font they could have used for "collector's edition" its super cool yet creepy at the same time. It looks like a 3 year old wrote it.

Tempting. I will make the decision later since I already have the SE one-disc. Maybe if the transfer is an improvement I will pick it up. Too bad it's not an Extended Edition with a bunch of the deleted scene remastered and put back in, that'd make me buy it.
nice artwork. I was waiting for a CE of this.
Damn it, I just bought the current special edition and this doesn't still doesn't have a commentary track... Oh, well, at least the artwork is amazing!
