It seems like I'm one of the only people who never played the game and absolutely loved the movie. I would love to see this in high-def. I think I might buy a Blu-Ray player just to see Silent Hill on it!

is that true? I guess there's no proof, so i'll just pretend it is and be excited.

Solid stuff, this - possibly the first time a videogame adap has actually worked.

Good movie but I'm worried about the Blu-ray. Reports are coming in that the new discs are being stripped of their features because they can't get the dual layer to work. Notice how we aren't shown the back of the Blu-ray case or even its mention in the promo ad.
Hideous artwork but I cannot wait to see this film.
Man! this movie has not arrived in theaters over here yet
I wanna see it pretty bad.
I freaking LOVE the games and I'm sure I'll love the movie just because Pyramid Head is in it
I always hated that poster with the mouth-less girl, but I think the nurses and Pyramid Head look BADASS in the cover.
Can't wait!

I suspect there maybe a unrated version in the future?
Yeah. I liked this flick. Not great, butcreepy. That cover-art sucks though.
International Theatrical Poster? Never saw that one in Sweden...
The cover is the international theatrical poster + those stupid nurses.
I guess they thought it would be clearer like this, as the ad campaigns are done internationnaly now
I personnaly like the girl without a mouth poster (even if there is nothing like that in the movie)
As for the movie itself : the atmosphere was allright, but the acting was bad, some fx shots were (odd enought, the "easiest" : blue screen incrustation)to average, the film was boring and worst of all : NOT SCARY !
To bad : for once they do a big budget rated are horror movie... And it's almost a miss !

awful film, in my opinion...
Never played the games, but really enjoyed the movie. 2 really cool scenes... the dude in the washroom. Man forget about using school washrooms for me again. At least if I'm ever found in a haunted town that is. And Pyramid Head is the S##T!!! Without spoiling anything... the scene when he grabbed the girl outside the church. Yikes... that'll mess up anybody's day! And the fact that Radha Mitchell isn't all that bad on the eyes.
There was rumors of a director's/unrated/special/deluxe/ extended/ superfreakin/double dippin' long edition coming out.
Anyone know when of if this is even true?

My movie theatre kept this all of one week....can't wait to see it.
I hate this cover.
well the movie felt like Hellraiser sequel to me at times, but it was worth catching... anyway the cover should be more mysterious and simplier... and yes! the movie was really close to the game
The ad mentions nothing about a commentary or deleted scenes. Can we be sure they'll be included?
that cover art looks like the Resident Evil cover.. but the movie was alright!! ill probably buy it when it's $6.99 at blockbuster previously viewed
I love the Silent Hill games, and I thought the film captured the atmosphere and look perfectly. However, the script and the dialogue and the acting was downright awful. The film was painfully dull and boring. The entire theater laughed at some of the lines from the movie. I was so dissapointed with this movie. Horror and video game adaptations just keep on getting worse and worse. All I liked here was the art direction and cinematography.
the cover art is just fine!!!

yay my favorite movie of the year! too bad no extended directors cut

meh... I liked the poster I produced for that rip-off contest they ran, more than this box art.... and i'm doing my best not to be biased here.
i liked the movie... I didn't see how someone could be confused (especially since it's all explained eventually, in a forced fed manner) plus, i've always been a fan of the games, and the one impression I had when leaving the theater was, "wow... thank god they expanded the first game's storyline", because if you thought the film's plot sucked, then your head would've exploded after viewing the first game's ending(s).
overall... I enjoyed it, but had just wished that the film was actually scary.
oh god, and the nurses... in the game the nurses actually animated a lot like those odd static "things" from "Jacob's Ladder"..... why change them into "Thriller" video rejects?

Thought the movie was pretty cool, but will be waiting for the extended/unrated cut to come out on dvd :D

Hello again, did for some reason Sony announced the languages it will feature on the DVD? I'm really hoping for spanish subtitles because I want my family to be able to enjoy it, since they are non-English speakers and don't quite understand a film without their Espanol.
And thats deal with Sony for me, that they lack spanish tracks on their DVD's.
Thank you.

Really like that Ad, it really outstands the movie and it is right that the film out-performed V for Vendetta, Inside Man, etc...
I wonder what are the foreign languages on the DVD, I hope a spanish track can be found.

The fog poster was awesome! WTFH!
Loved the movie. It's about time.
Wow great high quality covers, everyone is hoping that this is not the final cover art, because I can also say that is quite hideous. And in the Blu-Ray cover that quote at the bottom should be revomed why not leave "Once you enter Silent Hill there is no turning back"? Is better then any "wannabe" critic quote.
Can you say, "S**TTY ART!" Should have went with the fog poster. Now that was nice.

As an avid fan of the series, this film was not a good one, but it really succeeds in making the gamer completely satisfied, and it did for me.

Did I see the same movie as you guys? I thought this was one of the worst movies I had seen in recent memory, terrible acting, horrible plot, and to top it off they add a c**ppy video game style ending, "You've beaten the adventure, now here is your reward- a cut scene!"
3/10 (two for atmosphere, one for the pyramid head)
And yes, I "got it", unfortunately, there wasn't much to get, it should have stayed a video game. I'm sorry, I am just baffled by the praise for this film.

i didnt see this one in theaters... but I'm getting it on dvd :D
Saw it, and think I understood it, but still did not like. Don't planon playing any of the games. I'm just a Brotherhood of the WOlf fan (kind of....sort of....I wish I saw the uncut version...gotta buy the Canadian version...)
Great movie, but I have to wait until Blu-ray to get it. It's going to be a really difficult wait. November is a long way off for that PS3. I'm only hoping it's a better Blu-ray player than the PS2 was a DVD player.
the release for the DVD should be a national holiday just love the movie to death. hope there's a preview of silent hill 5 on the DVD.
i don't care if they double dip or quadruple dip this movie i'll buy every single edition
and hopefully the commentary will explain the movie to the 85% of you that saw the movie and didn't get it
pyramid head for president

Gee, Bibi. For a film only directed to fans of the video game, it sure opened on a heck of a lot of screens (just shy of 3,000 in the US.) If it was only directed towards gamers, it would've gone DTV and been in every EB Games store.
Good films are stand-alone, sequels excluded. You should never have to have pre-knowledge of something before you see the film to understand it. When films are based upon books, they don't assume every filmgoer is going to have read the book - they provide you with everything you need to enjoy the film, back stories, a plot, sometimes a resolution... etc.
Movies based upon games are just like movies based upon books - it shouldn't require any kind of pre-knowledge of the games to enjoy the film.
Quote: I guess the people who found it confusing didn't pay attention during the THIRTY-MINUTE LONG FLASHBACK THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!
Jeremy, yeah, I paid much attention to the film and felt jipped by the hour or so of WTF is happening, followed by a simple explanation. Then the movie decided it had a plot about the people in the church, and continued with it. Just seemed like it cheated a little, that's all.

Just kidding.
I've never even touched a Silent Hill game before but it didn't stop me from enjoying every single minute of the movie. Except the ones where we hear "SHARON!!!!" "SHARON!!!!" "SHARON!!!!" which is like 90% of the movie but barring THAT...it's a great horror flick that reminded me of Jacob's Ladder--and that's never a bad thing.

I still want to see it. Missed it in the theaters.
I thought this was a pretty well done horror film. I loved the creepy tone of the movie and thought there were some geuninely creepy moments. No, it will not win any awards but I'll probably pick it up.

Oh nice. So to enjoy the film you have to find all 4 games, buy them, play them all and then you'll be okay?
Puts me off quite frankly! A film should work as a film. Especially as not all the games are on all consoles.
Well you are right but the movie wasn't initially made for those who are not fans and addicts of the series, I mean even Christopher Gans got the rights to produce the movie after sending an interview to Konami telling them how much Silent Hill meant to him but I still think that none fans can still enjoy the beautiful directing and images...
Know about the lenghth of the movie and according to imdb trivias about Silent Hill "The initial script of the film was expected to be 3 and a half hours. As stated by Director Christophe Gans in an interview. The version we see in theaters is in fact the one he wanted us to see"; does this mean that there will be a very extended version, let us hope so.

one of the greatest horror films of the past 10 years. It was so well done. The only reason why people hated it, was probably because they didn't understand it.
it would be cool if they released a DVD/BD bundle

Is is an awesome movie, now for the so called addict and lovers of and fans of the game who hated the movie, they must think twice before calling themselves fans or lovers of the series because this movie is the closest and most faithful game to movie adaptation until now, as for those who couldn't understand a thing from the story they just have to play the 4 games of the serie and then rewatch the movie to catch the plot and that way they will enjoy the movie much better. As for the DVD I once read that a 150 min version used to exist before cutting it down to 127 for theatrical release. If that is true I just hope that they wilol release an complete extended edition for the movie like Gans did with Brotherhood of the Wolves and believe me extended editions can change the whole look of a movie (ex. Lord Of The Rings, Kingdom Of Heaven, Brotherhood of the Wolves etc.)
I loved this movie. There were a lot of awesome scenes such as the Pyramid Head scnenes and the Janitor crawling around scene.
We loved this movie. It had some really creepy and eerie moments.
Only thing about the dvd cover though....on a couple sites it has showed the cover art which is cool, but there are 2 prices printed on the bottom right corner for some reason. I hope Sony is not going to leave that on there because that will freakin' suck!
Awesome movie though.....maybe Sony will make a sequel.

Ah, I loved the movie, loved the score, to me I thought it was a good movie. I'm a hardcore fan of Silent Hill, and I can't wait for its release. Glad that its going to contain an extended scenes and deleted scenes. So excited to watch them!
I loved the game but hated this movie. The visuals looked quite good every now and again and some o the atmospheric stuff worked quite well but overall the film was just ridiculous. It wasnt scary at all and Sean Beans character was a complete waste of time. Worst bit of all - The 'Fosse' nurses at the end. I actually burst out laughing at the cinema.
I lvoed this movie and the game. 9/10
I thought this film was pretty decent. It didn`t have the tightest plot, but the visuals were nice and there were a bunch of good scares. I won`t be buying it though.
