Barebones = double dip
Beware the double dip as RR has stated that all three films will have added footage and a lot of features, you were warned. So I suggest rental....

This movie rocks!
Considering that Miller, Rodriguez and Rourke have all mentioned - in interview - additional scenes which were due to be reinserted into the movie for the DVD release, it is probably worth waiting until that is released.
This is by far one of the best movies of the year, and one of my favourite movies of all time. But if any section seemed a bit rushed, it was the first third with Rourke - clearly the star and finally making a comeback - which could have easily worked as a movie by itself...
Bring on the 2-Disc Extended Director's Collector's Limited Edition in Steel.

dts
It's good to see that it has DTS! Which will likely be in the special edition too.
I love this movie but I'm definitely going to wait for the bigger package. I'm sure that it will be worth the wait just like with the Kill Bill movies.(I hope)
very disappointing that Buena Vista would release a bare bones edition first when we KNOW the wealth of material that has been mentioned for a dvd release.
STOP THE INSANITY!
STOP THE INSANITY!
Dazzling film (9.5/10), but I too will wait for the double dip.
Let's hope they give the barebones release a bad cover and give the two-disc set the cover with everyone on it.

I'm still getting this even though it is barebones. Yes, I love the film that much!
When a Special Edition is released, I'll just trade in my barebones copy. I know a place that sells used DVDs really cheap and they'll probably give me a decent amount of money for the barebones edition.

SIN CITY (2005)
Dimension said that they ARE planning a 2-Disc Collector's Edition for the end of 2005 or 2006. So don't get so mad over this single disc edition. The was a great film and I loved it, I will be picking up this edition for now and wait and see what the special editio will look like. Miramax will do the same thing with the films KILL BILL: VOLUME 1 and KILL BILL: VOLUME 2.
...followed by a "special" edition two months later, a "collector's" edition three months after that, and an "ultimate" edition next year.
Not that I particularly care, since I have no interest in buying or even watching the lukewarm flick again... but it's moderately amusing to the "Lord of the Rings DVD" mechanism at work once again.

Hold up, I thought that they was a short behind the scenes feature and some storyboards to go along with it, that is what I have heard on other sites...
i had a feeling they would double dip the movie, but i might just wait for the 2 disc version that have the storys seperated as their own movies. I just hope it comes out before the year is up, then again the kill bill collection still isn't out yet and it's almost been a year for the long awaited special edition.
Wait for the real meaty release of this. Certainly, there's more to offer.
I have learned my lesson from my I, Robot mistake from last year, "a Good film with few or no features WILL be re-released within 6 months to a year with lots or tons" I WILL definately wait
Hey Buena Vista, Barebones just doesnt cut it anymore. They're pretty pointless. Just give us the Special Edition that you're planning on releasing anyhow. Your double dip game will become less and less effective as more and more people see through it.
I agree with everyone: wait for the special edition. This edition will however be good to satisfy those late night Sin City cravings...
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! and
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I can't wait to see this again but it looks like I gotta wait until next year to get a good version.

woo hoo!! this movie kicked A**!!!
but i'm waiting for the better edition....

I think they should only release single disc for rentals. Why not release the double disc at the same time? It's all marketing, and I've learn to be patient when to buy stuff.
I'll watch the barebones, but I want the SE. I woouldn't have minded if they delayed the DVD release for a Special Edition and skip the barebones.
This is such BULLSH*T! I hate when studios do this, and they've been doing it soooooooooooooooo much lately. Ugh! I'm disgusted by this! So I guess I'll end up buying the barebones one and then won't end up getting the one that eventually comes out and has the extras on it. If I did then I'd be stuck with two copies and having spent money to own it twice. Studios are really p*ssing me off lately. Enough with the excessive double dipping! And what's even worse as that they go out of their way now to plan on doing so.
I'll be buying SIN CITY (8/10 or B+), which was really solid, cool, and unique. Unfortunately the version I get will have no extras.

And they wonder why piracy is becoming more of a problem, lol.
These companies will only learn if everyone stops buying the bare ass releases and wait for the speacial ones, then it won't just be piracy that's losing them money, it will be their stupid greedy ideas at robbing the viewing public with the double dips. Ignore this version!!!!

you guys dont understand, this will not be a standard double dip- Rodriguez stated that he will release the theatrical cut of the film on dvd without features, then he will release 3 separate volumes that are stand-alone edits of "The Hard Goodbye" "The Big Fat Kill" and "That Yellow Bastard"- saying as even the extended cuts of these will only be about 45 min to an hour each, they will be loaded with special features-- while this has not been officially announced, Rodriguez did explain it in detail in an interview on Darkhorizons.com- feel free to check it out.
I'll pick this dvd up so i have the theatrical cut, but the lack of special features doesnt throw me off very much- at least it has a DTS track, so it will be a great screening copy.

Haven't seen this, but it looks like a pretty good flick. I will rent this edition and wait for a 2-disc release.
Even though I am waiting for the Special Edition , you have it wrong. This is technically NOT a bare-bones release, it does contain a production featurette and storyboards.

Sorry buddy but I count 5 minutes.
And for the barebones release, yeah wait for a 2 (or 3, or perhaps 4) disc SE edition. It will come.

I we keep buying the barebones versions and the special editions even when we know there'll be both, they're just going to keep doing it. Do us all a favor and wait to buy, rent if needed.

I think you misunderstood. There will be an option on the DVD to watch each story as a self contained film. They won't be seaparte releases, but it will be a feature on the uber-edition.
The original interview was done by IGN I believe.

I want this so bad it's gonna be extremely hard to resist a purchase. However, I have stopped purchasing the single disc DVDs that are likely to have worthwhile multi disc sets in the near future.
how typical
Well, I held of and was so very patient with Hellboy, and it paid off quite nice to wait for the 'super edition', and as much as I LOVED this moveie, I will wait for the bigger version of the DVD release.
Anyone else excited like I am about RR filming parts 2 and 3 back to back (ala LOTR)? SSWWEEEETT!!!
