The movie is actually ONLY about 4 minutes longer than theatrical cut!!! In my opinion, that's a fraud, pure and simple! I thought it was going to be 23 minutes longer, as promised
And this different 'chapters' system just sucks (it is much better as one big movie). Each chapter ends with it's own LONG credits - and that is of course where most of your extra lies. 147 minute "extended cut"... yeah, sure, really extended...
Theatrical cut, in this case, is much, much better!

Does anyone know weather a region 2 version of this is gonna come out?

Sounds like it has to be played as just the stories, not in the theatrical style (i.e. Customer, first part of Yellow, Hard Goodbye, Big Fat Kill, end of Yellow, and then other Customer). But I'll probably try and get this when it comes out.

Jonny's poll
Jonny! That poll of yours, my God, it's like Sophie's Choice all over again! I don't know that I could choose between Alba and Biel...
As for this EE of Sin City, I'm pretty psyched about it, but still wishing it didn't get a markup for the graphic novel as I already own them. Maybe have to regift them?

YESS!
I've been waiting since early September to see those menu screens! This DVD is gonna be AWESOME!!! Well, maybe not extended Lord of the Rings awesome, but it'll be 10x better than the Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Jackie Brown Collectors editions.
You can tell Rodriguez is heavily pumping this up. I am sure he wants to make his barebones releases infinitely different than the extended releases. A lot of though has gone into this product. Great move, greater movie!
cool menus too - this is the way to release them!
EXCELLENT!!!
I had to order the barebones version for my brother since he wanted it, I'm still gonna be buying this version for christmas though.
I just wish they released this version the first time.

Even though I have the Region 3 version of the theatrical version, I`ll still be getting this. Love the movie :D
In cdwow s listing of this it says the following....
Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with optional English subtitles, the Original Theatrical Cut will feature both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround audio, while the Recut version will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 only.
No DTS on the recut version??

How shameless.

Dave: the movie is a direct translation of the comic.
The re-editing is really just to even MORE directly translate the comic. I was quite hoping for it myself, and when it was announced in...March or May or whenever, I know I was excited. So, yeah, I think it's a good thing here.

Dave - what does it matter, you will get the theatrical too :>
I think the movie worked in theaters, as much as it could have worked.

can no one say if they think the re-editing is a good move otr not?!

Any chance of them releasing this WITHOUT the book? I have it already!
Bad, very bad cover.
But I still has it pre-ordered, and will keep it that way. (If not a super-duper korean edition is being realesed)

Buena Vista does not have any digipacks anymore and they use slip selaves. Thats what they did with the BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY DVD and others. This is such a great set, so many great features and everything, cant wait to get this for Christmas.
Way to steal my post. jk

Cool! My kind of release!
The ad stuff at the bottom has "depth" and DEFINITELY appears "removable"--there's a white line across the top.
Then again, if this is a cg model or something...the red character images look built in regardless though.

Hmmm....guess one of my friends or relatives will be getting my old copy as a freebie gift, lol.

Yes, the Sin City SE could have used some Frank Miller cover art.
Never had the chance to watch it on cinema but I will surely go for this set
Cool artwork, but too much red.
That cover art sucks. Although that won't stop me from getting this release.
The artwork doesn't look that great, they could've done better.
this artwork sucks!
get rid of all that advertisement crap at the bottom and it'd be semi-decent.

About time they released this one! I didn't get the other release because I knew this one was going to be out soon!
OMG!!!
FUCKING BEAUTIFUL SO MUCH BETTER ARTWORK!!! OMG I CAN'T WAIT I CAN'T WAIT I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!
Pretty good artwork although it could be better. Still can't wait to get it.
If I'm not mistaken Constantine is also the same way as the Jaws set.
If you look at the depth of the spine, it looks like that is a box to hold the regular keepcase and the book. Think about the Jaws 30th Anniversary packaging.
One word for that package art - Bitchin'

What I don't understand....is the graphic novel going to be minimize into the size of a DVD box?

The 2nd Printing of "The Hard Goodbye" that comes with this version has been available since at least February of this year.
For anyone who doesn't yet have the books and has the money, I'd wait till later in the year and pick up the Hardcover Frank Miller Sin City Library.
It claims to be complete, but if Miller's adding new material for Sin City 2, it really wouldn't be, would it?

Is the 're-cutting' a good or bad idea though?
I have not seen the film at all, was the theatrical Cut (I don't mean the EXTRA scenes added)okay as it was? Could the re-cutting spoil it?
Extended is fine...but a re-edit could easily be as destructive as an improvement.
Any views?

Beautiful cover, but where is poor Dwight?
It is not a cardboard thing because there it has the design of hartigan in jail in the background of the book pic and dvds but i don't mind

score!!!
SCORE!!!right around christmas
Nope, it hasn't been delayed. I checked with Buena Vista personally a couple of days ago. Don't worry

WAIT DONT WORRY SIN CITY IS NOT DELAYED!!!!! I JUST CHECKED ITS BACK ON!!!!
I thought that a site said this was delayed. But that news might be coming soon, I cant believe it!!! I wanted this so BADLY!!!
I hope the entire thing is a cardboard banner, because just the black background might be cool.
Yeah, I hope the Region 2 artwork will be better. I hope it isn't released to far after.
The artwork is shit.
Nice shot of the box the book and DVD combo will be packaged in, but what about the actual "DVD" artwork? Or will the cover be the same, because then I will have to agree with Chris Gould; it's bland and crap. They could have come up with something much more original.
Yes, the artwork is shit

This really was one of the worst kept "secrets"....

And yeah, I knew the extended version was coming. But considering the cheap price for the bare bones disc, it was a no brainer to pick it up and be able to watch the film until the extended version came out.
what I would have said was: I feel sorry for everyone who bought the barebones edition and never thought otherwise that this edition was coming out. If you knew and still bought it, well cool.
I can't believe anyone not knowing about this version if they are frequent visitors of this site or know enough about the DVD market with genre films with few releases. :p

I love the assortment of extras they have listed here. Degfinitely a must own for me.
I love you RR
I got the barebones but i don't care. I will buy both and give them more money because they deserve it.
They should have the option too view the film with storyboards/the comic book also showing at the same time. Woulf be cool to see how similar they are.

I suspect the Kill Bill set has gotten lost in the Miramax/Weinsteins split. I'm sure once things settle down again they'll get around to it.
now what about the 2-Disc Collector's Editions of KILL BILL: VOL. 1 and KILL BILL: VOL.2.... I want those more! But I love SIN CITY so this shall be mine!

Cooking School?
For those who are puzzled about the "Cooking School" segment, you probably don't have any other Robert Rodriguez DVDs. For example, the "Mexico Trilogy" has "Cooking School" segments on at least two of the three discs. They're just a quick video taped segment of RR showing the viewer how to whip-up the featured food in the film. Like for instance, in "OUATIM", RR did the segment on the dish that Johnny Depp ate at the restaurant before he blew away the cook.
The fourth story is got to be Josh Hartnett role with extended scenes.
10 minute cooking school?!?!
I'm so there.
I'm so there.
WHAT!
Some1 needs 2 write 2 the freakin' people that decide 2 do double takes on DVD's quite frankly I'm getting tired of buying something and having it come out again even better. It's not fair! Do they think I'm going to f'n buy another version of the movie just because it may be "uncut" or "more special futures?" that's BS.
YES!!
Wowsers! When's this coming out in the UK? I guess there won't be any mention of it until a few weeks after the theatrical release which still hasn't come out here but I'm so waiting.
Hot diggity! I was going to buy the bare bones version but kinda forgot to! I then almost bought the Amazon UK exclusive DVD/Graphic Novel set... but thought I'd wait a while... am I glad I did that! I will definately be buying this and it's great that they're including the theatrical cut too!
We all knew this was coming...
Banned, RR said the extended cut would be out in November December like two months ago.
Oh, and Chris Gould:
Quote:
Maybe it's been said recently, but when I first heard about it the release was gonna be three separate stories only.
This is an interview with RR from around May or so
Quote: Sin City is based on three graphic novels by Frank Miller (who also co-directed the project). For the feature film, Rodriguez and Miller tied the three books together so that they could flow together as one movie. For the DVD, however, viewers will have the option of watching the whole film together or watching each book separately as they appeared in the novels, complete with new footage.
"We shot the full stories of the books," Rodriguez says. "And I knew we could truncate it down, we weren't going to lose any scenes. Eventually they would all be available for people to see. The DVD will come out with the theatrical cut, and then there will be a separate disc that's got the individual episodes separate with their own title card and you could just watch The Big Fat Kill from beginning to end in its full cut as a single story and then switch over and watch The Yellow b*****d, and that's 45 minutes. It will have all the material back in, so it will be like the experience of picking up the books where you pick up one story and you read it from beginning to end and it will have all the material in it. So you can kind of shuffle your own version of the movie and just watch them all separately."
[...]
The separate stories will be available together with the theatrical feature in one set. "Yes, in a package and then I'm gonna have another 10 minute, it'll be a 20 minute film school probably for this one because there's so many things. And I'll have another 10 minute cooking school. It will be Sin City breakfast tacos. (Laughs) We'll show you how to make a homemade flour tortilla and the best meal you can probably ever learn."

Patient's Pays Off
Thank God for the internet. Glad I held off on the barebones edition.
Well then, I will now wait for this to come to SE.
SIN CITY
Daniel Baldwin's right where the hell is KILL BILL the 'WHOLE BLOODY SAGA edition QT promised us granted the japanese DVD is the best out there as that is really the uncut version and that he was going to include the famous Micheal jai white scene in volume 2. Maybe next april or a surprise X-MAS release. As for the SIN CITY set i'll have to see what was cut out to see if it's worth getting again. more violence, more MARV, more NANCY that'll be great.
P.S Where the hell is MONSTER SQUAD I WANT IT NOW!
P.S Where the hell is MONSTER SQUAD I WANT IT NOW!

This is how its packed. Found this on a messageboard. If this is true then this DVD is gonna be the most perfect DVD ever produced.

DISC TWO
Sin City Recut Extended Unrated Feature Film Presentation (with 23 added minutes)
Full-length expanded cuts of each individual episode (“Customer Is Always Right,” “The Hard Goodbye,” “Big Fat Kill” and “That Yellow Bastard&rdquo

15 Minute Flick School – Showing how everything was done, including the development of the look of the movie before there was financing, plus early screen tests, rehearsal tapes, final effects. Narrated and cut by Robert Rodriguez.
All Green Version – A high speed look at the entire movie with only its green screen elements.
The Long Take – A full uninterrupted 17 minute take during the filming of Quentin's segment. Audience gets to see what it's like to sit in the middle of a whirlwind of creativity while the camera is rolling. They never call cut, so everyone is concentrating, working, experimenting and being creative for 17 minutes straight. Very interesting to watch, and hear everyone brainstorming and improvising. Clive, Nicotero, Rodriguez, Tarantino, and Del Toro, Stevie J, all doing their thing at one point or another.
Sin City: Live in Concert – Sin City filmmakers, cast and crew head over to Antone’s restaurant one night after shooting “That Yellow Bastard” so Bruce Willis' and Robert's band Chingon could play a benefit show. Shows the full version of Bruce and his band playing the song "Devil Woman" and Rodriguez and his band playing the “Theme from Sin City.”
10 Minute Cooking School: Sin City Breakfast Tacos – Rodriguez’s meal of choice during the lnog night hours of making Sin City. Shows how to make Rodriguez’s grandma’s secret homemade flour tortilla recipe as well.
You can only say one word to that "WOW" Hope all the specs hasen't ruined the picture on the 2 movies
I was weak and bought the no-frills release. I think I am gonna list it for sale on Ebay as we speak. Even if I just get a few bucks for it, I only paid $13.99 so it will still end up cheaper than a movie ticket.

I assume that the 4th story they are referring to is the prologue/epilogue segments with Josh Hartnett. Anyways, Rodriguez has delivered the goods as promised and during the amount of time he promised to deliver them in. My real question is, where is that big special edition of both parts of Kill Bill that was SUPPOSED to be released less than a year after Volume 2 first hit DVD? Where is it Quentin???

Gotta love it when waiting for things like this actually pay off. This is a no brainer for me... too bad I already have the graphic novels...
I'm glad they included The Hard Goodbye, since it's my fav. of the comic's,
Although it would have been nice to have a full set, although that would higher the price.

I don't get it 4 stories? I mean there were only 3 stories in the movie itself "The yellow bastard, Big fat kill, hard goodbye" Where is the 4th story. And why only 2 discs. I really can't see how they can put all those extras on 2 disc with 2 movies being 124 and 147 min.
I bought the other way, but who cares.

Awesome! and right on time too. I'm glad I held off getting the barebones. I'm gonna place an online order for this as soon as I can to avoid the Alliance Atlantis garbage we'll probably get here.
Will this be in a keepcase?
I feel asleep the last half hour in the cinema, so I guess it's 20 minutes plus more of over-stylized (which was very nice though), hollow, distant storytelling. I'm gonna skip this one as well.
Well, I'm excited, but I knew it was coming so...
This is what I have been waiting for. I am so happy that the special edition of this has finally been announced. I can't wait for Dec. 13.
I hope the Rodriguez/Tarantino commentary goes for the whole film and that it's not just false advertising for a guest commentary appearance from Tarantino during his scene.
Wow!! A lot faster than anyone expected, I think. The extras sound AMAZING. It really was worth the extra wait for this spectacular edition of the Miller/Roderiguez/Tarantino masterpiece.
DVD and Graphic Novel....mmmm.....all I need now is a pewter statue and my collection is done!

That's not the artwork, Eli. That's just the cover of the comic book that's included with the set.

I am so happy I waited because this edition seems to be awesome!!! The film is amazing (those who don't believe so are entitled to their opinion, but they're wrong). I simply cannot wait for this either.
i can't f-ing wait for this! hope they dont f*** up the cover tho
You know, I could do without the graphic novel being included, or at least for them to release a version minus the graphic novel, as a) I already own it (and have since it's original release), and b) it's just driving up the price needlessly for those who already own the book or who have no interest in owning it to begin with. Also, the crowd reaction commentary is a total wank, and an utter waste of space on the disc. It's one of those things that I'm sure seems like a great idea to the people involved, but seriously, who's going to use that feature?
Still, even with those minor complaints this is still a great set, and a definite must have as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait.
Sev.

I am so buying this.
I'm glad I held off on the edition out now.

I don't get it. What's with the art? What exactly is going on here? Directing School? A Non-stop party? Cooking school? Wow, they're really throwing everything in there.

Do we think this will be a branching kind of arrangement?
Or Theatrical on one disc, Extended on another, with various special features spread throughout?
I think that it would be former. The recently released Gladiator: Extended Cut, which runs 153 minutes (theatrical) and 171 minutes (extended), included both versions on single, dual layer DVD. Of course, it did not include DTS because of the movies' running time. Since Sin City is shorter movie, I'm sure that Miramax can include both versions and DTS in one DVD w/o sacrificing video quality.

That's a very good question. Given the length of the two versions, if they put one each on a disc, they really need to make it a three disc set with all the extras on the third disc in order to make the best use of bits. Otherwise I have a feeling it's not going to look too good. Might want to hang on to the first released disc after all. The branching would make more sense from a storage point, but studios tend to shy away from doing that since some players have problems with it. My guess is the theatrical on one dual layer disc with most of the extras, and the extended on the second disc with the remaining extras. And all of it overly compressed to hell.

I could wait for this DVD if it came out late next year.......
Hmmm...surprised this is making it out this year. I wasn't really expecting it till sometime Q1 or even Q2 '06.

I may be mistaken, but I'm almost positive they said it'd include the theatrical cut. I know I'd "heard" that somewhere months ago. I think I read it in one of the rodriguez interviews, actually...

Its been said it'd be December/November for a while now...
ah well, good to finally have details...though what a pisser, the only one of the books I'd actually gotten around to *PURCHASING* is included...

YES I knew i would be rewarded nicely if i waited!!! yes yes yes
I am so excited about this title. I haven't bought the first release and now so soon this is coming out. I wish it was even sooner actually.
I can't wait to see the four seperate stories.
I can't wait to see the four seperate stories.
Can't wait to see the artwork! As for the extended cut, I'm not really bothered, I will just buy the theatrical cut, I'm in the UK. The reason I am buying the DVD is cos I saw what I liked in the movie theatre, hence I want to buy the theatrical cut. I cannot be bothered with a whole new extended cut.

Yes a definite pick up. love this movie and its a good thing i wated for this to come out
Cool im glad i held off on the original cut
As has been said, we all knew the new version was coming out, so there's no reason to get too upset. Actually, I'm glad to see it's coming out so soon as it's one of the discs I've been waiting for most. Yeah, I do wish they would have mentioned that the new set comes with the theatrical version as well. But who am I kidding, I like the film enough that I would have bought the first disc anyway.
SIN CITY (2005)

Looks like another terrific addition to my Christmas Wish List!
I of course knew this was coming but I bought the other dvd anyway cause I didn't want to wait. Plus it was only $15. This comes out a day after my b-day so it will make a nice present for me.

Sin City Extended
WOW! 23 minutes added, I love extended cuts! I am so glad I didn't buy the first edition. I'm gonna get this and wave this in front of my friend's face and tell him he shoulda listened to me along with the extended cut of AvP rather than buying the 1st editions of each the days they came out...
Arghh!
Bugger, can't believe they included the theatrical cut as well. That'll piss people off. There will be a lot of copies on eBay come December .
YES!
No seperate stories?
Well, I'll buy it anyway. That was faster than I thought it'd be. It'd be like March before we got this.
