With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible questions. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its exuberant storytelling lies the intriguing question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love.

Wonderful! Well, only if they had included those extras on standard release as well. Anyway, still looks like a worthwhile release. Cant wait!

that artwork has to go...TERRIFIC movie though
insted of having the huge banner, they should take out the quotes in the bottom and it should say somethiing like "what academy awards did this win? a) best picture; b)best director; c) best adapted screenpley; d)all of the above plus 5 more"
Well, only if the cover designers were so creative these days!
Great film! Decent cover art, though the quotes have got to go.
must get this movie; one of the best of the year.
its just one of those movies that makes you feel really good afterwards. i can't wait to get it

Not so keen on the gold banner on the top, couldn't they just have put the Oscar statue with how many the film won. Though I suppose that would be too understated.
I recently seen Slumdog and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did the whole audience. You can debate whether it deserved all the awards it received but it certainly was an enjoyable and uplifting film IMO.
I will probably wait for the UK/Ire release seeing it recently but I look forward to owning it.

Blind blu buy.
I guess the 7 other Oscars aren't worth mentioning, but out-of-context quotes are.
Good film, best film of the year? Mmmmm, I would argue that. Will pick this up on BluRay
Still have yet to see this movie. My brother loved it and he hardly ever enjoys movies set in foreign countries, so that's saying something about its universal appeal....
This is a mediocre and over-hyped movie. As a huge Danny Boyle fan, I hope his next project is much better.
Haven't seen it, but will NetFlix it just to see what all the hub-bub is about. Honestly, from what I've seen and heard, it looks over-rated.
'Course I'm bitter about TDK getting shafted with the Golden Globe and Oscar nom's. At least Ledger got his posthumous win.

The movie was pretty good, although i found best movie of the year a little overboard, but i am aswell a little bummed out TDK didn't even get nominated in the catagory. The plot of the movie was pretty good, with the whole tv-show stuff, though it's not really rewatchable material, wel maybe once in a while, at least to me that is.
Ok they have completely destroyed the cover with that huge Academy banner! Im assuming is a sticker thats placed on the wrapper.
Was this boring of what! Way overhyped!!!!!!
Cluttered art, and I wish there were more extras. Will wait till the end of the year to buy in case of a double-dip for the holidays.

I believe they're BD Live/BonusView extras so not possible.
The UK BD is coming 1st of June and from Pathe, which means Fox, which means likely an identical release (bar region coding).
31st of March: Sweet!

Boring or what? I take what.
Over hyped? Not at all. The trailer was a joke tough, portraying a completely different film to that we got.

Slumdog millionaire was one of the best movies I've seen of 2008, or 2009. The acting was excellent, the script was amazing, and the whole story worked perfectly. Danny Boyle and everyone else involved should be proud of their masterpiece. It truly deserved the Oscar it got for best picture. Nice to see it won at least eight Oscars. People say Slumdog was overrated, while I thought Benjamin Button was overrated. Sure it was perfect to look at and it was good but I don't think it was good enough to be nominated in Best Picture. I think either The dark knight or Gran Torino should have taken Button's slot. I was surprised this year, that there were hardly any "surprises". Okay maybe there were at least three but over the years we would have plenty.
When did this open in The States?
p.s - Rubbish picture of Dev Patel.

Maybe I'll pick this up. I don't think I gave it enough of a chance, because I remember being sort of disappointed leaving the theater. It seems like a loaded disc, so I'll pick it up eventually probably.

I'm another one that thought this film was overrated.

Though I wouldn't go as far as to say Slumdog is overrated, I do think TDK was a far better film than the other 4 nominated films that went up against Slumdog.
How the hell a movie which has THE most dynamic supporting role performance of the year, outgrosses ALL the best picture nominees combined to the tune of being the 2nd highest grossing film of all time AND has a higher critical rating than all but one of the best picture nominees, doesn't even get nominated for best picture, just proves without a shadow of doubt how out of touch the academy really is.
With that said, I think Slumdog needed the win a lot more than TDK did profit wise. It was in the top 5 this week again with having that best picture win. TDK didn't need any such boost, so I am happy for the makers of Slumdog, I just hope they share it with the kids.
I did find Slumdog a bit long in the middle, but it is a satisfying movie to watch. It is a lot better than other best picture winners of previous years, so I can't show it too much hate. I just wish TDK was given a shot to win it.

Way overrated. I came out of it wondering what all the hype was, when it really wasn't that great. If I had to choose a real best picture of the year it would probably be The Wrestler, or TDK.
What's all this TDK talk. Is it an acronym?
As to being hyped. Hype is a very dangerous thing. It can literally kill a film that you may otherwise think of as very good indeed. In this case I thought it was deserved but I've not always (e.g - Blair witch, rubbish).
For those who only thought it okay you may want to give it another shot in a few months. I often find hyped films I only think of okay I like much more on a second viewing.

Care to be any more unsure of yourself? :D.
Talk about being indecisive ha ha.

Good film. Best of the year? No.
Out of the 5 BP Nominee, I saw three, Benjamin Button, Slumdog and Milk. I found Milk to be the most moving, after all it's the story of hope that I found to be more powerful rather than faith and destiny themes that Slumdog tried to portray. The best way to sum up Slumdog to me is almost like 'wishful thinking', but that's probably just me
I can't say that Slumdog really deserved the win, but at the same time, it's not the worst BP winner of the decade. At the end of the day the nominees this year weren't that strong in comparison to last few years. I mean this is no Schindler's List or No Country for Old Men, but it's good enough and better than the Crash or A Beautiful Mind win.

I loved this film! It was definitely the best film of 2008 and worthy of every award it has recieved. I cannot wait to buy this on Blu-ray and I'm happy they stuck with the poster for the coverart, but I do seriosuly hope the award banner is not actually that huge.

Wow...thank you. I wanted to say something along the lines of this earlier but I had to go to class. I probably couldn't have said it better myself...
I'm amazed no one has commented on the way the critic quotes are displayed on the cover art. I think it looks tacky and makes the film even more full of itself than it already is.
And Bradavon, I don't know if your question is serious or cheeky, but TDK is an acronym for 'The Dark Knight.'

A straight to video release that finally makes its way after spending a year on the shelf collecting dust.
(hint-hint)
Great film that was deserving of the Best Picture Oscar.

Meh, it was a decent enough film, but I agree it's been overhyped quite a bit. It's become the "fashionable" thing to rave about. And it certainly wasn't the best picture of the year. It was probably third or fourth best just within the list of nominees. Personally, I thought both Frost/Nixon and Benjamin Button were more deserving. I really, really wanted to see Fincher get his long overdue Oscar, even though I don't think Benjamin Button is his best work (that would be either Se7en or Zodiac in my book)...oh well, can't say I was surprised as the Academy has been such a mockery in the last half-decade. A film like Gladiator -which won back in 2000 - could never even dream of winning Best Picture today (I think it would have a hard enough time just getting a nomination)....
Man, I hate Hollywood.
