Ever since Burt Reynolds started taking comedy roles it seems like he just dug himself deeper, and deeper into a hole. All though I have to say he was hilarious in the Cherokee Kid.

Smokey and the Bandit was a pretty big hit in its time. I don't think he was digging a hole for himself when it was released. He may have starred in some stinkers but his very public personal life and age made his spotlight fade.
I never got into the Bandit.
"Are you gonna abide by the court's ruling, or are you gonna go Bandit - Reynolds-style?"
-- Brodie, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"
Personally, I liked the slapstick-iness of "Cannonball Run" a little better than this. But as I haven't seen it in a while, "Bandit" may be worth the Netflix rent.

Smokey was excellent. Give this a miss and just buy the triple pack which is (ironically) probably cheaper.
man I loved these movies as a kid, I should really rent to see if they still have the same effect now
I'd much rather see a SE of part 2.
This is the 3rd trip to the well. for Smokey and the Bandit! There was the singel disc edition and then the was the pack with all 3 of the "Smokey" movies! IF I had to venture what is on this editon that is not on the others I can't. However I can only be almost for certain that Sally Field and Burt Reynolds will not be doing an audio comentary will not together anyway.
"..Reynolds in a hole"? "never got into the Bandit"?? "would rather see a SE of Part 2"????
You guys are all nuts! This is a classic! Right along side Blues Brothers, Airplane, and Animal House (thinking of the timeframe). And part 2 was ok, but it got way too wacky with the elephant and Smokey's cousins (all played by Jackie Gleason).
I own the original and #2 individually, and I'll gladly double dip if this has any retro doc's or new doc's in it. But I doubt it, so.... blah.

I already picked up the 'Franchise Collection' so NO-SALE!
Best line from Smokey & the Bandit 2...
"Daddy, did you see that big ugly gator?"
"That reminds me, I got to call your momma."

Er? This was a HUGE hit. And it was made when he was still in his box office, superstar prime.
This is the kind of 'hole' most actors would willingly jump into.

Its hard to explain to my film friends why this is sitting in between my Herzog and Bergman DVD collection

I'd love to hear that explanation as well. Doesn't seem to fix alphabetically

Best line: "Junior, when we get home, I'm gonna punch yo mama in da mouth!"
An oldie but a goodie - I found this series always went well with popcorn and my brain on holidays....
Artwork added...
I`ve got to say, that is pretty nice artwork. I`ve always margionally liked this film, but have never wanted to buy the franchise collection since the other film stunk. I`ll buy this probably even though it seems very light on special features.
I love the art work but I think I will buy the 3 pack instead!! For 16 bucks for all 3 movies come on..what a steel!!
I have the theme to this movie ready to be made into my next ringtone ;-)
Nice artwork although he is pretty badly photoshopped in on the main image

Burt looks pretty Photoshopped on the cover as well.
He looks plastic.
"Plastic Burt"! Get yours for next Christmas!

Isn't this the first version to have a 5.1 soundtrack?
Finally!
I was waiting for someone to point that out! YES, this is the first release to remix the audio into 5.1 Dolby Digital. We won't know if this is going to be a big plus (ala "Halloween" ) or nothing special ("Mommie Dearest" , "Terms of Endearment" , "Tootsie" ) until we hear the DVD. I for one am excited! And as a sidebar, "Smokey and the Bandit" was the number two film of 1977 next to "Star Wars". So, YES, it was a blockbuster. No one knows there history anymore...
Can someone please tell me if this movie (the se version) has the cuss words still intact unlike the heavily PG edited version. I am looking for it but in its orginal movie release. I am so disapointed in the PG version and want to see this in all its glory with the crazy cuss words intact like I remember seeing it at the theater back in 77 when it first came out. And if not do anyone know if they ever reeleased the orginal are rated version of this on VHS or DVD??
Thanks in advance :D
