Don't tell me they will do the same with Bother from Stone sour.

Columbia: What's Going On?
Finally Columbia decided to release "Spider-Man 2" in widescreen.
After the desaster of the first one in full screen, It's seems that Columbia is back on the tracks again.
We hope it continues that way...

Excellent, we get a proper in-depth Making Of doco this time.
What annoyed me about S-M1 2-disc SE was there were no proper Making Of featurettes (aside from the "Follow The White Rabbit" ones) pertaining to the actual production of the film (there were some good 'comic-to-screen' ones), only two shitty pay TV specials. Then the Deluxe Ed comes out with four SFX featurettes (eg Times Square scene) sandwiched inbetween the promo crap for the sequel and game.
I do hope for the R2/R4 that they dump the foreign language and Dumby Digital 2.0 tracks in favour of a DTS one.

Imagine having the ability to see more details in a scene from your favourite movie. Background images become clear and bring new life to that movie you’ve seen multiple times. Although the Superbit collection can be viewed on any DVD player, the more advanced DVD equipment, the better the experience. In addition to the improved clarity of picture, Superbit offers the highest quality sound available. This is made possible because all added value features have been removed, freeing up information space on the disc. The evolution of dvd is here!
Superbit gives viewers the opportunity to experience DVD in a whole new way. With the highest resolution picture plus DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, Superbit offers the ultimate in home entertainment.
The Superbit Collection sets a new standard for DVD video and audio performance.

Think I'll end up getting the Superbit, not that interested in extra features these days.
I'm not a big superbit DVD fan. I only own one superbit DVD and that is Panic Room.
Personally, I'm going for the 2 disc widescreen edition of Spider-Man 2.

Like I posted earlier, if Columbia would just put a little more into their standard versions there wouldn't be a need for Superbit versions of their movies. Other studios master a lot of their DVDs at higher bit rates too, but they don't over hype them and charge people extra for it either.
Black Spider-Man
I like the Gift Set Box cover. Looks like the Black Spider-Man suit. Maybe a hint for part 3.
Sounds like a Superbit infomercial....

superbit question
what is it that makes superbit better then the standard release?
Gift Set for me! Great packaging for it too.
Superbit box
Well, that Superbit box sure looks loads better than other Superbit boxes. I just hate those silver borders.
The menus are to plain!!!
I like that Superbit design but still prefer consistency with the packaging. I wish they would stick to the outer slip case that looks like brushed steel. I hope the various versions are reviewed before release day.
I loved this movie one of my fav of the yr or ever for that matter. So for those who didn't like well i have nothing to say to you. All these coverarts are really nice the only thing i don't like are the screen shots they look so plain and empty i hope they change them.
DVD ROM?
Any DVD ROM content like the first one? Playable demos, recording your own commentary, anything like that?

just had to add that it is so awesome how they are giving us consumers so many awesome choices, except they shouldn't offer foolscreen!
wow, the gift set packaging looks great, but I think i'll only go w/ the superbit since there's so many blockbusters coming out around christmas. Eventually I may get the gift set...I absolutely LOVE the superbit packaging!

Back when DVD was a niche market Universal and Dreamworks did this on a regular basis, a DTS track included with a simple Dolby Surround track. But now that DVD is so common in households companies cannot afford to do it as most people don't have an entertainment center capable of playing DTS sound, just their player hooked in to their television. It has become an industry that caters to the masses for the most part, but without the success of the format we wouldn't be seeing the plethora a titles released over the past few years.

Falling for that gimmick again

superbit for sure, TIGHT cover, DTS, better pic on the huge LCD, damn right!
Why couldn't Sony change the fullscreen cover art like the first Spider-Man? I saw a 3rd teaser poster of Spider-Man webbing towards us in the teaser poster. Wonder why they couldn't of used that. And whats with the red and yellow banners? Ain't the unuseral colored banners surposed to be on the fullscreen editions?

I can't be sure, but did they reverse the colours on the top bar for the widescreen/full screen editions compared to the first Spidey? I coulda sworn Spidey 1 WS was red and FS was yellow...and then they go and swap it. For anyone that can read, not a big deal I guess
, but I wonder how many people will come out of the store with the wrong copy in hand if they just do a run by pick-up?

I'll get the collector's set like the first movie. I don't know what to make of the 2.5 but I doubt I'll get it... it'll be a rental for me.
I can't wait for this DVD, this movie it's awsome, but, they have to do something about that artwork, the other posters are way better than that thing...or come up with a new one.
Invader Bugs, you think Dunst and Maguire leaving the films would stop them from making more Spider-Man movies? As long as the cash keeps flowing they'll cast Gary Coleman as Mary Jane and Abe Vigoda as Spider-Man for all they care
Yes, I know what I just said. Oh, and I'm going for the 2-disc widescreen btw. And no difference in covers between wide and fullscreen? Better double check those labels at the top before I make my purchase. I have an Old School fullscreen copy sitting in my basement for my lack of precaution.

1. Spidey 3 is in '07
2. You do know they're making 6 total?
actually, as of right now, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are only signed up for 3 movies, as the studio didnt think the Spider-Man series would be such a big success.
and in an article i found, Kirsten Dunst said this, commenting about coming back for other movies:
""The next one will be it. I'm only contracted to 3 and don't see myself signing for a 4th or a 5th," says Dunst, emphatically. Asked if she would love to see her Mary Jane character killed off in Spider-Man 3, Dunst laughs. "It would actually be really interesting if SPIDER-MAN died. Why doesn't the superhero ever die? I think if Mary Jane was alone, pregnant and he died, she could give birth to a spider baby and carry on the series with another young boy or something like that. I doubt Tobey Maguire would come back for a 4th or a 5th either.""
also, id like to buy the collectors edition, because of all the extra stuff it has, i really loved this movie, i thought it was better than the first, and i absolutely loved the first one. but the only problem i have with buying the collectors editon, is that i know i will buy the directors cut if one comes out, so i dont want to spend too much, even though im a huge spidey fan. i already have the first movie in 2-Disc fullscreen, and the deluxe edition, but, i dont mind that, because my 2-disc fullscreen started getting multiple cracks in the disc, and i didnt even watch it that much, and took good care of it when i did, and the deluxe has the bonus disc, plus widescreen is much better.

Depends who you ask. I personally think superbit is nothing but a marketing scam, but others disagree.
Suberbit is a marketing ploy, but if you want the best available picture for selected Columbia releases it is the way to go...especially if you have a large, HD television. The Superbit ups the bit rates of selected Columbia titles so the picture is better than their standard release, but if Columbia would simply compress their standard releases at a larger bit rate to begin with there would really be no need for a Superbit version of the DVD.
Let me explain...the thing that I have found is Columbia generally masters their regular versions at a lower bit rate than most other companies.
Example...for the regular, Widescreen edition of SPIDER-MAN the size of only the video file is 3.9 GB. Now compare this to Fox's widescreen edition of DAREDEVIL where the video file has a size of 4.5 GB.
Not that big of a difference until you realize that DAREDEVIL is nearly 20 minutes shorter in running time than SPIDER-MAN, 121 minutes vs. 103 minutes!
Here's a few more comparitive examples from around my DVD collection:
ENEMY MINE (Fox, 2.35:1, 108 mins.) - 5.95 GB
JAWS (Universal, 2.35:1, 125 mins.) - 4.3 GB
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(2003)(WB/NL, 1.85:1, 98 mins.) - 5.0 GB
HALLOWEEN (Anchor Bay, 2.35:1, 91 mins.) - 3.8 GB
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (Paramount, 2.35:1, 118 mins.) - 6.5 GB
TERMINATOR 3 (WB/NL, 2.35:1, 109 mins.) - 4.5 GB
THE HULK (Universal, 1.85:1, 138 mins.) - 5.1 GB
DAWN OF THE DEAD (Anchor Bay, 1.85:1, 127 mins.) - 5.3 GB

I thought Spider-Man 2 was an improvement over the first movie, but X2 is still a superior movie. I agree casting Tobey was one of the worst ideas along with organic web shooters. I would have loved to see the sequel open up with Spider-Man fighting a supervillain instead of the pizza delivery scene we got.

What you get with a superbit disc is the movie with its MPEG-2 compression rate maxed out for a supposedly superior image with DTS included for what usually is, but not always amounts to superior sound. And thats it. Sometimes theyre better, sometimes theyre not.
It can be argued that any disc from any studio that comes with just a movie on the disc with its MPEG-2 compression maxed out is superbit, but columbia tends to label their recent movie only titles as superbit and think theirs is better.

No she doesn't The Black cat is Felicy Hardy. The only reason why the Russian girl is there, is to show that at least one person listens and really cares to what Peter has to say something that no one else did in the whole movie.
"Felicia Hardy is a student at Empire State University. She is very rich, and very pritty. Ever since the begining she has had a crush on Spider-Man. Even when she was engaged she ask him if he had a better offer. She lives with her mother and only recently learned about her father. He was a burgalar know as the cat he was being held at S.H.E.I.L.D. so that no one would ever get ahold of the super soilder formula he had memerised as a child. The king-Pin learned of this and broke the cat, John Hardesky (Felicia's mom changed their name to Hardy) out of jail. Hardesky refused to give King Pin the formula, so King Pin kidnaped Felicia. Then Hardesky gave king pin the formula. They tested it on Felicia. That's how she became The Black Cat. Spider-Man and Black Cat teamed up and Hardesky erased the formula. For a while they were a pritty cool team then she desided to go to Europe and fight vampires with Morbeous and Blade"

Yes is the worst one pretty close followed by ORGANIC WEB-SHOTERS. Go to the comic book store pick any Spidey comic and tell me that Tobey looks like Peter,I know it's imposible to look the same, but at least the same SIZE Peter isn't that SHORT that's what bugs me the most in the movies, get the get gift-set and see hwo Peter parker should look, I will.

she does become "THe Black Cat" so yes, it was essential to the plot.

I wasn't blown away by it either...and you do have some valid points. Definitely not enough action in lieu of questionable character development. (Was the girl with cake scene really essential to the plot?)
What can I say? It's a popcorn movie that is meant to appeal to the masses. This isn't film school fare. I'm not looking for rich subtext, allusions or political statements. It's fluff...and moderately well-made fluff.
Raimi makes consistently good movies (odd exception: The Gift) that are high on thrills, usually fast paced (minus Gift and A Simple Plan) and often quite beautiful. He didn't pen the script and the cinematography is pretty capable and inventive, so it's not his fault.
Wanna blame someone? Blame Columbia for paying a lukewarm screenwriter millions of dollars. Blame Tobey Maguire for being an overrated one-note actor. I think Raimi's the only one who can safely avoid fingerpointing here. He did his best with what he had.
He's also "the mad bomb", speaking as a long-term Evil Deadite.

I absolutly hated the movie and I even find AvP (theatrical vers) better and I hated AvP!!!!
I will never understand why people liked this movie. X-2 was so much better.

Hey man, I bought into that whole "degree = big bucks right outta college" crap too. It don't happen overnight.
I still think this disc needs a Bruce Campbell commentary track...and didn't Full Screen go out with powdered wigs?

Thank god that it doesn't have the Vindicated video. Dashboard Confessional and emo for that matter sucks.

I think I'll be getting the 2-disc version...but that Superbit title is tempting...

Unknown. Maybe they'll pull off a Daredevil.
Spidey 2.5 wont be out until Spidey 3 is ready for release....right?
Man, I can't believe 4 editions??? I am quite dissapointed that there may be the director's cut. I really want to by the 2 disc edition, but don't want to have to double dip later. I didn't buy the first one until the deluxe edition came out. I don't want to have to wait that long for the second.
I wish they would tell us now if the director's cut was going to be released and when. Oh well, I will have to settle for the 2 disc one for now. This movie was so damn good.

I think I'm gonna go with the collector's set. Its cheaper then I thought it was gonna be (unless they pull a matrix) and I think kudos are in order to Columbia for having the decency to release 4 different versions simultaneously, tell us about them and price them right. Thats all consumers really ask for.
Well, get ready to be disappointed. Sam Raimi has already said that he wants a Director's Cut disc, called Spider-Man 2.5.
This double-dipping shit is getting way outta hand. I wished they'd just release their intended definitive edition the first time around.

I'll buy the standard 2-disk on this occasion too.
There's bound to be an Ultimate Edtition box-set of all 3 films in 2006, so i'll wait till then until i buy another version of this film.
I personally thought this film had better action than the first, but less story. I still prefer Part 1, but this was a good sequel to it.

Hopefully the transfer on the 2-disc set will be better than the first film's standard widescreen edition DVD was. I'd really like to have all of the special features on it, but if the transfer is anything like the first film's I am going to have to go with the Superbit and hope for a better picture.
The picture on the Superbit for the first film was a big step up in the quality department, although I could not tell much differnece between the DD and DTS mix on that edition.

i hated this movie alot. i will give it another chance because of how many people liked it however(this will be chance #4. i'm unbelievably fair to this movie)
2-disc wide for me.

I'm getting the collector's set to go with the 1st set that I have tweaked. It's got all the things that were in the set PLUS the Deluxe Edition with Full Screen Disc. I'll prob end up getting the 1st movie superbit because of the extra commentary track.
Uh...

I really wish the Superbit was a two-disc set. I recently purchased the original Spider-man in Superbit and I swear it was a new transfer of the film... even the special effects looked improved. So even though I would like the extras I am gonna do the Superbit thing.
i just don't wanna see kirsten doosh on my widescreen cover.... sh*t like will make me wanna get the fullscreen
ill go for the collectors as itll match the previous one.
As far as a directors cut goes, what could he really improve on here??

I'm all over this... sweet. I'll get the 2-disc and probably the superbit too.
superbit all the way for me
i'll be getting the superbit version of this. i already have the first movie in superbit. might as well stick with it.
I expect the UK edition to feature a DTS track, in the removing of the non-English tracks.
Hopefully a better tranfer this time...

I am also going with the superbit version.

Yep, the artwork should be available for them all next week. I won't be around a great deal next week though, but I'll do my very best to get them on the site asap. Think I'm going to go for the Superbit disc personally.
these all coming the same day guys?
Let's hope the documentary is much better this time around...
ahh I hated this movie when I saw it, Ill give it a second chance
I'll get the 2 disc to match number one, i hope thats not the final cover i pereferd the other 3 posters more
Superbit right out the gate? Sold!
That would be great if they got the Superbit out the door right at the start.

What about the Director's Cut edition, any news on that? I'm very tempted to buy the regular 2-disc edition but if the Director's Cut is available soon after I'd rather wait, like I did for Hellboy...
Gimme some sugar, baby
Should include a separate Bruce Campbell commentary track.
Can't get enough of "Bruce Almighty".
Can't get enough of "Bruce Almighty".
4? all released on the same day? that would be COOL, this is what the studios should do!
wow
4 editions huh? Well at least they told us in advance. I'm just going to get the regular two disc edition.
