Actually Splinter wasn't a DTV film. It actually came out in theaters October 31st aka Halloween. It's just that the release was very limited. But other than that I agree with you. The R2 artwork is much better and I'm seeing this when it comes out on DVD.

I rented this last night and it was OK but nothing great, and certainly not upto the standard suggested by the quotes/awards on the cover sleeve. It's very slow to get started and when it does, yeah it has some nasty moments but overall it's just a bit boring, plus the creature is a complete rip-off of The Thing. Hopefully, there won't be a sequel as this wasn't good enough to warrant one - worth a watch once if you've got nothing better to do but there are certainly better budget films out there, e.g. Feast.
