I'm disappointed that they're using the same The Shining cover as the current one. However, the fact that it's finally coming out this year and under $30, it's a definite buy for me.
Now, can anyone confirm they'll be available on standard definition?

Wooooooooo! They forgot the "A" in "A Clockwork Orange," damnit!
I'm pretty sure that the thing Alex is in is just one big "A", Maladroit....

It's not on the side of the case, though.

Well, that's because the title is: Stanley Kubrick's Clockwork Orange. Probably because of the non-inclusion of the 21st chapter, but don't quote me on that. Plus y'know, he was kinda a glory hog (until things went wrong, them blame the author of the source material.)

I'm with others in hoping these are anamorphic widescreen, especially "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Full Metal Jacket".
Thing is though, Kubrick didn't want some of his films to be seen in widescreen, so the chances of seeing a widescreen version of any of the films, aside from 2001 (which is WIDEscreen 2:35 I think), and Clockwork Orange is widescreen too, it's 1.66:1 or something. Open matte is the technical term I believe.
Does anyone know if "Eyes Wide Shut" is presented in its uncut form, without any of those CGI people superimposed over the orgy?
P.S. - I sure hope the special edition of "The Shining" features the alternate ending! I've been DYING to see that.

Yay! We have been patient and have been rewarded :D
The Cover artwork for all are great...
Especially The 2001 Package!
I'll be getting 2001, Clockwork, and Full Metal Jacket, along with the Lolita and Barry Lyndon releases!

That's true. Aside from "2001" and "Spartacus" which were both shot in 2.20:1 and 2.35:1 respectively, the rest were filmed in 1.37:1 and then matted to different ratios.

YES!
I wonder if The Shining will have both the Euro and US cuts? Ive got them both but it would be nice to have them in one set.
Cant wait to get my hands on these

Yes, yes, oh yeah!!!
I will also say that it would be great if "Eyes Wide Shut" is the uncut version ...
I had held out mostly because I never liked the old WB cases so I think that having standard cases is right up there with new transfers and all that.
I had been really contemplating just picking up Barry Lyndon this past week but now I'll just keep waiting.
MGM should release a new set of there three Kubrick movies aswell. They have some really good releases such as the Scorsese films and new transfers plus a few extras here and there would be nice. Something like Day of the Fight would go perfectly on the Killer's Kiss DVD.
Edit: The EWS is most likely the uncut version as Warner Bros have recently said the uncut version would be out in late 2007.

I have Clokwork, Full Metal Jacket, 2001 and The Shining. I hate those snappers like everyone else. I will upgrade as well.
Kubrick is one of my favorites. Clockwork and Stranglove posters hang proudly in my office. I have never seen EWS so if it is uncut that will be something I can check out.

FYI - According to talk on AVS forum, these are supposedly getting a blu-ray and hd-dvd release in October as well.
HAPPY BECAUSE:
All of these films are FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY getting the 2-disc treatment they so richly deserve, ESPECIALLY 2001: A Space Odyssey (My all-time favorite film).
However, Kubrick was strongly against special features of any kind for his films, because much like Lynch, felt the films should stand on their own merits, leaving the viewer to analyze them on their own. I can see his point to a degree.
But with all due respect to Mr. Kubrick, I'm dying for some deeper insight into these films. There's been precious little, in the way of behind the scenes footage or otherwise to much of Kubrick's work.
DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE:
I'm sorry but I absolutely HATE the cover art for 2001. The font needs to be in the Futura family (Stanley's favorite) and they need to use one of the many fantastic Robert McCall posters on the cover and not that CGI'ed monstrosity.
The "A Clockwork Orange" cover isn't that much better. YES it's "A" Clockwork Orange and should be included as such on the spine.
I already own the previous Kubrick box, so as a obsessive Kubrick completist, this is a definite re-buy for me.

YES the onscreen title is A Clockwork Orange, and the book is called A Clockwork Orange, but the film has always been Stanley Kubrick's Clockwork Orange.
To be extremely picky about the covers i don't like how the Shining's cover image isn't taken to the edges but the others are. It just looks like a cropped screenshot with the title above it.
Looking at the DVD's, its funny they put at the bottom of the Shining-full screen, as Stanley Kubrick intended, but on the others, such as Clockwork Orange, 2001, and Full Metal Jacket, it just says modified from the original format. Its like Warner is pointing out their mistake.
Please Warner correct this grave error you already pointed out on the previous releases and give us anamorphic widescreen or NO SALE!

Is Full Metal Jacket going to be released in widescreen this time? I ask only because it was playing on one of the HD movie channels in 1.78:1 and it looked uncropped.
A Clockwork Orange & The Shining is mine, all mine.
I don't any Kubrick films as I was waiting for something like these. Glad I waited.

If they were to do that especially with Kubrick films I think they should just go completely bare-bones with no menus or anything so you can watch the movie uninterupted and have the highest compression rate possible on a standard DVD but I think having two disc sets would be pretty definitive.

I only wish they had gone for the original theatrical poster art, especially on 2001. I hates it.

I'm pretty certain The Shining was meant to be widescreen, considering Kubrick's perfectionism wouldn't have made such blatant slips like the helicopter shadow in the opening titles, which could only be removed by matting the picture.

each of these are some of the best dvd artwork ever. special props to 2001 for being a brand new yet totally kickass design and The Shining for the simple yet effective negative of the original artwork with the kickass classic old school lettering.
