Star Trek: Generations (US - DVD R1)
Paramount confirms a recall for the new collector's edition disc
Title: Star Trek: Generations
Starring: Patrick Stewart
Released: 28th September 2004
SRP: $19.99
Paramount has confirmed a disc recall for the collector's edition of Star Trek: Generations which was due to arrive in shops next week. The recall has been ordered so that Paramount can address a simple error on the packaging. The back cover incorrectly stated that trailers would be included as part of the set, which was not the case, as Paramount couldn't obtain the necessary clearance for them. As far as we're aware, nothing else is going to be changed (and that includes the numerous transfer issues that have been raised in online reviews) The disc will now be available to own from the 28th September this year.

Seriously, the only double-dips of these worth buying are Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country, and MAYBE First Contact.
However, the Khan bonus disc had a fair share of crap on it. Like I'm really fascinated to hear about the writing method of Trek ubergeeks that throw together their pathetic Pocket Books.
You may not be interested, I may not be interested but it's not like they just put that on there for us. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see that.

I'm not particularly fond of some of the pointless extras on these double disc sets, this is coming from a Trekkie. I'm coolecting all of these double sets now purely because I didn't buy them the first time around.
Generations does look like it has some interesting extras though, particularly the Moore/Braga commentary.

It seems ridiculous to me they would recall a set that was already on its way to being shipped and sold for the sake of two little errors on the package. There were literally handfuls of labelling errors on the Star Trek 6 disc - why should they care now? I'm willing to be its an excuse because it the video has problems.
What I also find weird is why the trailers are being left off at all? How can there be a rights dispute? Whose rights? Paramount owns star trek and all the footage in the trailer and likely the music too. Weird.

I think because ALOT of people complained about the poor treatment of ST VI. The sets had been so well recieved and then one of the most respected (and my personal favorite) and anticipated releases gets shafted. It made alot of people mad.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
I Am Legend, some people may like the Pocket Books. they have had some bad Trek novels, but I have read some good ones. However the best tie-in original novels I have read are from the Babylon 5 and Doctor Who novel ranges.
Wow, Generations gets delayed from release. I really want to wwatch the extras on it.

?!?!?!
What the hell, just a couple of days ago they said they weren't planning on recalling and were just going to go ahead on time.
Damn.
Damn.
Hmmmm...
Well even though it's delayed I'm going to go to my video store to see if they have it anyway. Then the question is should i buy it or wait for the revision? What do u think.
Pocket Books...bleh.

Dude, spare me. Most Pocket Books are no better (if not worse) than the countless fan fiction crap that you can find on the net. And yes, that includes the Spock/Kirk man-love ones!
Now that Trek is in its overdue death throes, where will these talentless geek writers turn for employment? I think the comic book store down the street is hiring.
To my knowledge, I found ONE decent DS9 novel. The rest were amateurish drivel. Any sci-fi tie-in "writer" that steals multiple pieces of dialogue from its source material (yes, Star Wars does this too) should burn in Hell forever.

Recall and delay?
So it's official the the disc is delay? Surprisingly, my AMAZON order already on it way!
I guess any delay will only involved change with the corrected cover sheet in the packaging, the disc will be exactly the same! Maybe that's why AMAZON go ahead and send the disc off anyway!
Those who haven't get should probably wait! Those who have their order on the way, I guess it should be OK too!

Obtain Rights?
No biggie on the delay, I can wait a few weeks no prob. Out of curiousity: I dont understand the rights issue....Paramount has owned the Star Trek franchise since they bought out Desilu (the old Lucille Ball/Desi Arnez studio that originally greenlit Star Trek). So how could they have a rights problem? With who, exactly? Weird, anyone have any idea what thats about, or how the rights work when they have owned the franchise since well before the movie was made? I could understand it if there was a change in ownership at some point, but I am a bit confused over this "rights" deal.
Already got mine on import... :-D
One of the better sets, the DTS track is great - but it seems silly to delay it over trailers...

I am pissed with this. I may be the only one to say this, but I really wanted the trailers. I suppose I could find them on the internet, but it would be nice to have them on the disk as most dvds do. And I don't mind waiting a bit longer either. I just wish Paramount was delaying this to put the trailers on, not change the packaging.
Amazon is not shipping this yet.
Just got this email from Amazon:

DVD Concept have already shipped
My order for this was despatched from DVD Concept on 24 August and receieved by me here in the UK 2 September.
Star Trek Generations DVD Site at Paramount.com
If you head over to Link and you would see on the leftside of the page you would see no TEASER or THEATRICAL TRAILERS listed. Looks like the samething as they did with the single disc version released in August of 1998 with it being bare-bones.
Rights problem...
...my understanding is the rights problem is with some of the music used in the trailer, which is music not done originally for Trek. I forget the source but it was external to Paramount.
Still available......
This edition is still available on www.playusa.com & they haven't mentioned it on there......I might get it for collector's purposes!
I went to the local Best Buy yesterday and they had stacks of Generations discs for sale. Guess the memo's to return them didn't reach the proper management at that store.
I bought one yesterday, and later on I will head back again to see if they have pulled them or not.

Generations Recall
I found it at Wal-Mart yesterday. It's a great transfer and the deleted scenes were actually pretty interesting in terms of seeing how it could have been.
Star Trek Purchase
I actually bought this movie yesterday from my local Wal-mart. My dvd has
the wrong specs ( trailers, etc), but I didn't care to wait for a the new package.

Finding copies now
I hit all the local Wal-Marts in my area, plus a Circuit City - none of them have it.
Even asked one guy about it, and he tried to tell me the old version was the new one. Doofus.

Yeah. Bought mine at Walmart yesterday. How naughty of them.
I have a question. Storytime. I picked up a copy, got home, opened. It was scatched, badly. Returned to Walmart for an exchange, they opened the new copy, same as the first. Disc one was all scrached up. I returned to the counter with two more. Exchange two was just as bad. Exchange three had pitted/scratch marks, but this time on disc two. I ended up swapping discs to have a mint copy.
My question is this: How many of you who already own it, were they scratched up when you bought it?
I have the same problem with "The Girl Next Door" Unrated. I now own three copies. Why didn't I exchange them? I did twice each. One of the store clerks didn't want to give me a replacement (first exchange), instead he tired to use a DVD/CD repair fluid to fix it. Yeah, my jaw dropped on that one. I'm gonna be selling those on Ebay.

Sounds to me that whatever area you are in is getting a bad batch of product from whatever replication plant is responsible in shipping to your area. I would try emailing a studio rep off of one of their home video sites and letting them know.
