You can buy the HD DVD/DVD Combo Star Trek: Season 1 Boxset on Amazon.ca (Amazon in Canada) for ($55.00 US)
low shipping cost also...

They have, because people buy them anyways, they can charge whatever they want.
ripoff! Even after the price drops to a true retail representation....
Will they ever learn...

Man these people really know how to take the p**s.
It cost me a fortune to buy them all on DVD and now they release a remastered version.
I don't think so !!!

I refuse to buy these until they are released on Blu-ray. I've been buying and rebuying these on CED, VHS, LD and DVD. I can't honestly warrant the expense knowing that superior editions are already mastered and able to be put into the que. Anyone else with me?
Or you can be a very bad person and visit the Bay of Pirates...

This is me if I buy it and then its released on Blu-Ray AGAIN.

Lol i know how you feel.

We the fans must let Paramount know that will not pay their ridiculously high prices by NOT BUYING THEM until the set prices come down.
You people are SUCKERS if you buy this DVD-ONLY REMASTERED SET. I had the Season One HD DVD set, and the ONLY reason to watch this show with New Effects was cause of the beautiful HIGH DEFINITION picture. I watched the standard DVD side on a couple of episodes and preferred the original, unremastered version to that! So PLEASE, wait until BLU RAY versions are released. Don't give these damn studios ANY MORE double, triple, quadroople DVD dips. WAIT FOR BLU RAY, THEY WILL BE COMING, and well worth the wait!
It always makes me wonder why they can't price teh Trek sets cheaper. they would probably sell more. Wait and see if the price drops around the time of the new Star Trek movie.
I sold my HD DVD Combo Star Trek: Season 1 Boxset on ebay last month.
I enjoyed the enhanced CGI effects but I will wait for the Blu Ray release of Seasons 1 and 2.

I have the HD-DVD 1st season and it looks great. I won't re-purchase a 1st season just cause its Bluray, But I will hold out for season 2 on Bluray. I'll pass on this cause you know that a year from now, Season 2 on Blueray will be here!
It's GAY Jim.
So, let me get this straight - The only way to get the first season is to buy the HD DVD/DVD combo and now that the second season has been announced it's DVD only. There is a word for that - GAY!
I want it on Blu Jim.
When obsessive Trekkers stop buying them at way too high of a price.
So never.
So never.
When is Paramount going to get a clue that this is way too high of a price for a single season of a TV show?

The 1st season was available on the HD-DVD Combo format, meaning that the SD-DVD version, complete with the remastered effects, was contained on the flip side.

Toshiba was financing the mastering for HD DVD and Paramount only released the first season as a HD DVD/DVD combo set. Once they pulled out, the HiDef project ended.
Unless Sony wants to pony up for the remaining seasons, it is just SD for now.

weren't these made for the express purpose of being shown on HiDef channels and eventually released on HiDef formats?
seems to defeat the purpose by releasing it on regular dvd. i mean the first remastered/new effects season was an HD exclusive right? it wasn't ever released on regular dvd. dont know why they couldnt have waited and just released it on blu-ray.
i'm stupid for even complaining since i'm never buying this show anyway but just saying. lol

This was by far the best season of the Original Series. Amok Time, Mirror Mirror, Doomsday Machine, Trouble with Tribbles, A Piece of the Action, The Immunity Syndrome, The Ultimate Computer, Assignment: Earth and the Changeling plus a few others are undoubtedly THE best episodes that were made in the 3 year run of the series. If you haven't caught any of the remastered episodes being aired on independent channels then you should. The colors are significantly better, the picture is much clearer and the revamped CGI scenes bring the series up to date with thrilling consequences. Without equal is the remastered Doomsday Machine episode. As my favorite ST:OS episode I was completely blown away by how awesome the space shots are and the battle that ensues with the machine itself.
This is the only season I would have ever bought and now that it's finally coming out on good old reliable inexpensive regular DVD, it will be bought. When the Blu-Ray version comes out you'll have decide which limb or child to sell to buy it.

Aye and sods law, I get these and they announce the BluRay. I'll wait me thinks.
I'll take bets on whether or not a year or two down the line, they'll re-release this bad boy (and the 1st season) on Blu-Ray.
You just know the Hi-Def masters are just sitting around, waiting to be pressed.

Is it excessive to get these remastered editions if I already have the originals?
