I bought the one-disc today and the cover is hideous.

Back cover looks weird. Either way, I decided that it's best that there's a boxset containing all the reboots (or maybe 4, 5 or 6, depending on how many movies the studio wants to make) come in a box set.

Back cover added for the 3-disc Blu-ray...
You know. At first, I thought that maybe this will be a must buy but with the artwork revising looking so horrendous, I might actually wait till there's a box set when Chris Pine finishes all the Star Trek films.
I’ll be content more than content with the region 2 DVD!
Saw Star Trek at the most powerful THX cinema in the whole of Europe! Empire Leicester Square via its custom made JBL screen and surround array topped off with Crown amps at mega warp factor 56KW THX!
It surpasses the original 13KW JBL THX and even that was in my face at times so you, can imagine how brilliant Star Trek was in Dolby cinema digital 56KW THX!
Saw it twice once front and centre row. Its sonic perfection at Dolby reference level was out of this world! The SPL db meter was reading some good lows as well as sonic clear mid to highs.
Sub bass on the warp speed effects sounded like (sonic booms) that pressed and jolted me physical back in the rocker seat! it was punch I wasn’t even expecting!
The second viewing was in the circle VIP sweet spot and the results where still top 10 out 10 marks across the board. Clear stereo speared! Clear dialogue maximum intelligibility!
Clear surround envelopment! Ludicrous insane sub bass!

I can't wait for this. 3 disc here I come.
That's too bad.
Eww.. okay, I don't like that at all because I don't keep the slipcovers on when I add them to my shelf. I've never purchased a movie before that requires you to keep it on in order to have a title on the front cover. Do you think they'll ever do a re-release without the slipcover thing? Have any of the previous designs like this ever done that?

The cover with Star Trek is a slipcase, the letters are see-through so you can see the cover of the case in the sleeve wich is in this case Chris Pine's face. Much like the Transformers covers.

OMG I am so excited to see the newish cover art for the 2 disk dvd. All you have to do is take the slipcase (the one that says star trek) of the dvd and you got chris pines face as your cover.

So it does look like the 2-disc will be a slipcover then.
Revised artwork looks better. Prefer the all Chris Pine in black background the best. Hope they use it for the Blu-Ray.

Luv the new artwork, i will buy the two-disc. Great movie
I agree the artwork revision is better but still not amazing, I agree with Sam "This film deserves some badass artwork" at least the heads aren't floating...they have necks and shoulders!

I love all of the artwork. No brainer to why they changed it to show Chris Pine though. You rarely see "big" dvd and blu ray cover art without the main star on it. Definitely a day one buy for me on blu. : ) And I still can't get over how much I love this film without liking Star Trek at all.
Why is it that in recent years the 1-disc artwork is almost always frakkin' nicer than the 2-disc??? The 2-disc/BR art with Kirk's face in the STAR TREK lettering is just too loud and gaudy, IMO.
Awesome movie, though, and I guess that's what matters.

i see so the awful first cover has been replaced with one which is just as bad as the first.
Wow, loving the Blu-Ray artwork! Good work on the revision, Paramount

Shaky Cameras, gratuitous lens flare and a douche-bag for a lead character we're supposed to like didn't fit well for me at all.
And I thougth I was the only one who felt this way.
Case in point. The whole Kirk and the Kobayashi Maru test story was so cool when it was first hinted at in ST-TWOK. But when it's shown in this movie Kirk just comes off as a douche bag.
As for the new art; still nothing special. But then again the old art wasn't high point of Trek movie poster history either

So excited for this one. The 2 Disc Blu-Ray will be mine.
i like the new artwork for the BD. it looks like an old 60s movie poster. both revised packages look nicer than the original.
and anyway, it's not really necessary to give consumers a sense of the movie... when it's freaking star trek. pretty self explanatory.

Ah, a DVD release isn't complete without a stupid floating heads cover. F-
Sometimes they should just stick with the poster art...
I preferred the original artwork. Bummer.
I preferred the original artwork. Bummer.
Revised 1-disc artwork is fine but the 2-disc artwork is AWFUL, however.
REvised looks ok.
you'd think they woulda put Bones instead of Uhura on that 1 disc cover. i realize unlike the previous movies, she actually has a role this time but yeah.
The single-disc artwork isn't as awful as the 2-disc edition, but both put way too much emphasis on Chris Pine's gigantic head. (I wasn't a fan of the multicolored poster, either.)
So far the 1 disk artwork is the best, but nothing special.

Please remove the words "ultimate" and "digital copy" it should be a sticker nothing more!Much like TDK. That banner detracts from what is really in the package...I for one am buying the movie not the digital copy.
I'm getting the Amazon.com exclusive that comes with a metal Enterprise statue

Wow, I actually like the 1-disc revised artwork more than the revised 2-disc.
Oh well, it's the movie that's important. Not the artwork.

Artwork added for the 1-disc
revised cover artwork sucks
Form one extreme to another. This film deserves some badass artwork and Paramount is not coming through. I really do not like either artwork.
Sorry, but that revised artwork is awful. I'll be in Paris the week it comes out. Might have to see if the French edition has better artwork.
And I am right there with you, iconoclast, I loved the hell out of this film.

ahh, I liked the original artwork better, doesn't matter though, I loved the s**t out of this movie
the cover will probably be like transformers was. the original artwork they released will be the slipcover and the new revised art will be the case.
I prefer the original artwork.
It's a slight improvement... but it's still pretty terrible.
Wow...
They've changed the cover from terrible to awful.
Well done!
They've changed the cover from terrible to awful.

the new artwork is interesting from a design standpoint. As a DVD fan, I'm not too impressed with the cover art.
I personally prefer the Blu-Ray revised artwork over the DVD revised artwork. I also like how the 3-Disc Digital Copy Special Edition looks on the Blu-Ray and yet again I do prefer the Revised Artwork over the Original Artwork but they should've just used the Original Artwork instead. The Revised Artwork would have looked good on the re-release.
New cover = Way too much WHITE
Wow, I was excited when I saw that they revised the artwork, I thought maybe they listened to us...then I saw the revised artwork. Definitely a big step down, it's just too busy to look at.
New artwork = fail.
I like it better than the original artwork but yeah, it's still lame.
The revised artwork is TERRIBLE, Paramount. The only problem with the previous artwork was the stupid, too-large font used for the "2-Disc Digital Copy" title. This one is just... ugh. Doesn't give consumers a sense of the movie at ALL.
And where's the artwork for the single-disc edition?
And where's the artwork for the single-disc edition?
the new cover art looks great

Well, it's better than the Original Artwork, but the revised is still a bit... ugh... And I liked the 3-Disc ULTIMATE edition better than the "Digi-copy Edition."
The (new) 2 disc cover looks awful.
The revised artwork looks horrible and the 2-Disc and 3-Disc Digital Copy Edition look too disjointed but I guess it's worth the money.
Agree that all the characters should have been featured in the cover. I must say, Im less enthused about this cover.
Agree that the 4-colored one would've been best. I think this revised one looks like butt.
I actually really dig the new artwork. Though I think the best choice would've been the original teaser posters with all the characters in the 4-colored Starfleet logo. Most people hated that art, but I loved it.
Revised artwork added...
I for one loved this film and don't understand towards it, despite the rave reviews.
The artwork sucks. period. Paramount, you can do better than that, especially for an awesome movie like this. And who else here thinks that it's cheap of paramount to have that boring grey label on their discs?
I was hoping they'd go with the other theatrical poster (Floating heads) for the BLu Ray release, but this is a must have non the less. One of the years best films EASILY!
Would kill for a steelbook with this art...
Best movie of 2009 so far! Definate first day buy. But, that artwork, aswell as the poster, are horrible. I'd rather the floating heads!
That cover art looks like a blurry skateboard.
I like the cover. I HATE the digital copy.

Personally, I'll take a "boring" cover with a simple, tasteful graphic over a generic photoshop job of the cast with an obligatory shot of a battle underneath any day. But it's no wonder that studios do opt for the floating heads option so often when they're criticized this much when they actually do go with original poster art.
Well, the original poster art was boring. There were quite a few who disliked it when it was first shown, so to make this the cover art was blah. In this case, I would prefer a floating heads job. Oh, and one other somewhat unrelated note, am I the only person who is extremely pissed to not have artwork on the actual discs themselves that I buy, more specifically recent releases from Paramount, Universal, etc? I really hate that...if I'm gonna pay my hard earned money to get a DVD, I want to have artwork on the disc and inserts too (I miss those).

I'm not a fan of the show but loved the movie. Will buy on blu.
I think it would look good as "Special Collector's Edition" art, but for something that's supposed to entice potential buyers... garbage.
I did enjoy this movie. I saw it twice in theaters. I didn't expect much from it and I left blown away. So, what is with this horrible dvd art? Its so bland. Please! Someone redo to cover art.
Some of the worst DVD art ever.
John Cho, Tyler Perry, Leonard Nimoy. No Shatner. They just Shat on the Shatner.
C**p artwork and let the digital copy die already! Liked the movie a lot.
Don't. It's a waste of time, and a poor ending to the TNG-centered franchise.
I'd prefer other artwork too but no real complaints here. On a somewhat related note... I still haven't seen Nemesis.
Best action movie of 2009 (so far)
Does Paramount think a digital copy of the movie will sell more copies of the 2-disc SE? It's ridiculous.

The artwork is alright even though I was never impressed with that poster. At least they didn't add terrbile floating heads!
I didn't really care for this that much in theaters. I think its a little overrated but i'll check it out on DVD. But that artwork is horrible!
It's not Diora Baird who played the Orion. It's Rachel Nichols.
Common, better cover artwork had to be available. So boring. Great movie though. Easily one of the top films of the summer.

I actually thought this one was really good. My parents were big fans of Star Trek but I barely have seen one of the movies. Though I know someone at school who is a big fan of Star Trek.
But my question is actually (I'm now sounding like a broken record), but where is "Up?"

i think they meant 6 months between theatrical and home video release because it came out in May so it'll be 6 months when it hits dvd/blu. Because lately its usually a 3-4 month window between theatrical and dvd/blu.
Exactly.
I remember the seven month long wait for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian." I don't recall six month wait from last November or December releases but I remember the six month wait for "Shrek the Third" real well.
Still, I am waiting for "Up."

Wonderful, wonderful film. Great cast and a lot of fun, wish the dvd was being released sooner!
One of the best films of the summer (I seriosuly saw it 4 times) and I cannot wait to get the Blu-ray! It sounds packed with great extras and I hope they use that poster for the art too. I just can't believe we have to wait for mid-November to get this! I assumed that because it was an early May release we'd get it sometime in mid-September. Oh well, time does go by fast anyway.
i went to see this movie 3 times at the cinema i love trek and i can honestly say this is the best film to date will be getting the bluray asap
I think this film was incredibly well done and anyone that says anything diffrent is a hater! Personally I think it's the 1st big screen hit for JJ and his Fringe staff should be congratulated for reigniting this franchise.

This movie's plot was so incredibly lousy. But the cast of the USS Enterprise crew did such a fantastic job that I still have hopes for a superior sequel, because I want to see these guys interact some more. Just give them a better story next go 'round!

Then you must've not listened to the "This is not your father's Star Trek" bylines in the reviews for this movie. I am not a fan of the OS nor the movies or the various spinoffs (although "Voyager" had that Janeway factor), so I went to this movie with fresh eyes. I definitely liked what I saw, and the handheld cam approach gave it an immediacy and urgency to the pic.

One of my favorite films of the year. Yeah!
I thought this film had a better ending than "The Dark Knight," though I thought "Up" was better. I don't mean to repeat myself but where is "Up?"
I'll wait for the de-lensflared old fogies edition, as I'm obviously not down with the 'yoof ov today'
Actually, I wouldn't even buy it then. Well I had to re-evaluate my feelings for the Star Wars prequels, and in comparison to Abrams, George Lucas is a genius.

Definite purchase. Definitely my favorite of all the major blockbusters that have been released this summer.
It's a long wait for the DVD release, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Nest movie of the year so far. I saw it 5 times in the theater. Can't wait to get it on Blu ray.
Everyone I know who saw it loved it, one of the best Star Trek movies made to date. If you don't like this movie I'm not sure what kind of movie would make you happy because this was a fun ride start to finish.

Your High School Basement looked like a power plant/ sewage plant? That is awesome!

Shaky Cameras, gratuitous lens flare and a douche-bag for a lead character we're supposed to like didn't fit well for me at all.totally agree, luckily us real sci-fi fans have the Battlestar blu ray set coming out soon.

So sorry that this wasn't "Ernest Goes to Camp....in Space". I guess for you, no other film can ever achieve that kind of level of excellence, huh?Why do u think he would like an Ernest movie just because he doesn't like an overly flashy action film directed by a boring tv action director?

The best movie of the year by far.

Do you know how to count dude? It's July right now... November is in LESS than 4 months...
Go to school or be a fool!
i think they meant 6 months between theatrical and home video release because it came out in May so it'll be 6 months when it hits dvd/blu. Because lately its usually a 3-4 month window between theatrical and dvd/blu.
Exactly.

I absolutely loved this movie! It's rare nowadays to have to wait for a DVD, but like many of you have said, it's sort of nice for a change to get to look forward to it. Hopefully the artwork is cool!
All I got from this movie is that the future is very, very shiny. I'll have to make sure to tone down my television's brightness or put on a pair of shades before watching this again.
As someone who's only familiar with Star Trek from spoofs and the awesomeness that is William Shatner, I found this film to be pretty boring. I had no frame of reference for anything that happened and stopped caring about what was going on fairly quickly.
I thought it was fun, but surprisingly shallow. Of course, Spock would say this is entirely logical, given what passes for a summer blockbuster these days.
Alongside "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," this movie definitely delivered the goods when it came to entertainment. And strangely enough, unlike most of Orci & Kurtzman's usual scripts (like the horrid "Transformers" movies), the script was solid for the most part. And this movie has Tyler Perry's best performance to date -- maybe he should stick to doing more "Star Trek" movies and less of his preachy Madea movies.
And this year was devoid of a lot of good and/or highly anticipated movies. After the humongous disappointment "Wolverine" was (and "Transformers 2" snagging the Worst Movie of the Decade Award), I didn't have much hope for this movie. But Abrams, the writers and actors nailed it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Missed this when it ran theatrically. Everyone I spoke to, gave it rave reviews!
Honestly, my Star Trek Universe ended when Voyager got home & Data died in Star Trek Nemesis! I know his memories are in the B-4, but it is not the same!! I guess I will give this a try when it comes out!

Saw this three times in the theatre. Day one purchase.

Completely agree. Also, with the six-month waiting period, it allows the time to assemble worthwhile features and not the dumb EPK garbage found on most DVDs.

Definitely gonna pick up the Blu of this, or get it for Christmas...whichever. Hope the artwork is at least decent.
Total Blu-Ray buy!
Fantastic movie. Will definitely be picking this up.
I can't wait to see the film again on DVD. saw it twice in theaters. love this movie.
Isn't there supposed to be a big honkin' 11 film Trek box around Christmastime? I haven't bought any of the other Trek sets yet because I wanted to get them all in one shebang.
Got my very first Blu-Ray player last week and I'm excited to get some Trek in there.

Will be buying this on blu for sure.
I was never a fan of Star Trek until this movie. This film is a gem and the Blu-ray will be mine on release day.
You show me Diora Baird deleted scenes, I'll show you my green

If you didn't like it, then you must have a seriously poor taste in movies.
It's called an opinion.
On a different note, the UK will be getting this title a little earlier on November 2nd.
Well, what you call an opinion is called an observation. Let's not be brash.

I liked the movie and I'm disapointed with the special features so far... it doesn't look like I'll be buying the DVD OR the blu-ray anytime soon or maybe before the second installment when they'll re-release it yet again... and yeah, 6 months between theatrical and DVD release is waaaaay too long so not buying it for me is a no-brainer.

Fantastic summer blockbuster, very entertaining. Cannot go wrong with J.J. Abrams. Probably one of the best of the summer, along with The Hangover and the indie Moon.
Zachary Quinto was a standout for me. This movie was alot of fun and very enjoyable
Even after all the hoopla and positive reviews, I still never got around to seeing this. Guess I'll blind-buy on Blu......
Well Paramount released Iron Man May 2nd '08 and it hit DVD/Blu-ray in September of last year. So I think Star Trek should at least have been a September release.
Hell yeah! Star Trek was my Trashformers 2 and I'll be buying this on day one of the pre-order date. Now bring on the cover art.

Really looking forward to buying this. Was an excellent film; lots of fun.
This film was terrific.....a real treat for Trek fans. Only problem was the awful film score. Definitely picking this one up.

This flick was a blast, one of the best movies of the year! A must by for me.
I just wish it would come out 2 weeks earlier. My birthday is on a Tuesday this year. the 3rd. I'm getting Forrest Gump Blu-ray but this would be even better
