So it's the same original release again, but in a tin this time... Next it'll be a release that comes in Darth Vader's head. You'd think by now they'd at least include the double-discers with the originals on them.

Christmas cash-in, plain and simple.
Sad...with no originals...shame...
When is enough is enough, I mean come one give us fans a break, now, obviously i wont be able to buy this because I live in the US, but if they did release i would have to buy it, Hey George, need more money , eh?...Steve Sky67
Same release, different day...and as Cheddar says, they could at LEAST have included the recent double-discers in it, albeit that those 'original' trilogy versions that were included as 'Bonus Extras'were shoddily NON-ANAMORPHIC...
Like a lot of people, I was greatly anticipating the proposed 'proper', supposedly bells and whistles boxset release that was originally intended to tie-in with 'STAR WARS' 30th ANNIVERSARY this year, and which hopefully might have had the 'original' trilogy in a more pristine and ANAMORPHIC, DOLBY 5.1, CLEANED-UP form...
Unfortunately, I read somewhere that those involved at 'Lucasfilm' have put off releasing that boxset quite yet, and I am very disappointed in this 'stopgap' from them them. What a lot of the fans want is the 'original' trilogy in a remastered, cleaned-up, ANAMORPHIC form, like it should have been done recently in the first place. I really hope that this delayed 'Anniversary' boxset includes THOSE...as the unseen deleted scenes, and the new digital screwing around with the likes of 'The Phantom Menace' etc.' are the 'Bonus extras' as far as I am concerned...

Fox can't win really.
Fans moaned when it wasn't released.
Fans moaned when it was (WAH WAH Han shoots first, the music isn't right, my mum won't buy me new shoes)
Fans then moaned because they want the original how it was released back then trilogy.
Fox gives it them
Fans THEN moan because it's not cleaned up
Fox releases an obvious christmas cash-in for the 2nd time. Which fans should realise they're not missing out on anything.
But no, they moan.
Fans then moan yet again because they haven't been given a sixtology boxset.
URgh!

You think they would've learned to include the original versions.
I'm beginning to think that the last year's limited editions were the last time we're ever gonna see 'em on DVD...

So Nic, you're saying that we should encourage studios to release sub-standard DVDs? Or maybe to release the same titles over and over gain instead of putting out decent versions of films that haven't been given the special treatment? None of this is really down to Fox anyway. They're only the distributors for whatever Lucasfilm releases.
soo..no chance for the complete box ??????
Down with Lucas! How many Star Wars DVD releases do we need? You know another one is on the way that includes the prequels.
Nic, are you trying to tell me something?
Certainly as far as the shoddy 'Bonus extras' marketing of a scratchy NON-ANAMORPHIC release of the ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY turned out to be, I don't think I'm being unreasonable by being unimpressed by this, considering that 'Lucasfilm' has normally considered itself to be at the FOREFRONT of picture quality and sound, yet didn't see fit to reward the fans over the years with a release of these long-clamoured-for versions with an INDUSTRY QUALITY STANDARD release, and STILL aren't if this latest boxset is anything to go by.
Oh, and can George RE-EDIT some of the worst moments out of his 'Prequel' Trilogy, and ADD the more interesting, and worthy DELETED SCENES back into them, while he's at it...

That and the "4 Disc" version was deleted a long time ago. So if you want it I'd pick it up. The current version loses the fourth disc.
I already have the original 4 disc so done, until a Blu-ray release comes of course. It will be a big one for the Blu-ray side when it eventually comes.

Lucasfilm decided against the super-duper box set because the double disc sets didn't sell well, and they believed that that was because of fans didn't want the original original trilogy, when in fact fans wanted remastered versions.
And I am still waiting for the new version of ROTJ where Jar Jar Binks is a spirit at the end.

Fox just package up whatever Lucas gives them. No one should be blaming Fox. Fox don't and never have had any involvement with Star Wars releasing. Lucas just uses them to "distribute".

Correct but in reality most people (as in enough to sell BIG numbers) don't really care. I doubt most would notice many of the minor changes anyway. Most people who want Star Wars bought it the first time round.
I'd have definitely have bought them as you say if they were remastered but I'm not buying those shoddy releases. I've seen bootlegs that look as good but cost considerably less.

You're acting like that's an unfair request?

Star Wars fans are harder to please than any fan base. They will whine and moan about any and every release. There will have some issue with anything, whether it be the version, extras, package art, whether Han's shoes are a tint bluer than before, or if one of Vader's deep breaths comes in clearer than before.
Basically, Fox is going to have to release a 40 disc set containting the old releases, the new releases, the prequels, and every single extra ever released... But then there will be fans whining about something new, perhaps the cover art being reminiscent of newer movies... something stupid.
Im a star wars fan, but I dont lose any sleep over the DVD releases. Ive got the versions on DVD and VHS. I wont cry in my closet if Greedo blinks once more than he did in the 70s.
Love,
Garrett

What I'm wanting/waiting for is the Complete Saga Boxset with all the deleted scenes edited back into the Prequels via seamless branching if necessary for those that don't care to see them. I also want the CG Yoda in TPM for continuity sakes.
I stand corrected on the Fox/Lucasarts thing. But I'm still right, about the moaning. Fans whined and whined until they got the untouched original trilogy. Lucas gave them that, and still they moaned.
I'm not saying they should keep re-releasing stuff nor am I saying it's right. But they do, and people buy them. Just because they're re-releasing it doesn't mean you *have* to buy it!
And to be honest, if the tin fits all 3 armray cases into it (pref the bonus disc too but I'm not too picky) then I might just get it too!
Is it me or do Cervantes' posts read like an artical from The Sun (parts POSTED in CAPITALS)?

People complained because the DVDs they released were c**p by modern standards. What if the recent Superman boxed set contained non-anamorphic versions of the extended movie and Donner cut?
They wouldn't like it Chris.
How's the Die Hard 4 review coming along Chris? ETA? Looking forward to your views. Are you looking at both versions, the teatrical and super unrated extended (or whatever they're calling it) version?

This is completely useless. Why not a straw box edition?
It's not totally useless. Nic has a point about the tin. If the original cases can fit in it, it makes for a more sturdy method of storage than the cardboard effort of the original 4 disc boxset came in.
Personally I'd rather the money go on the Blade Runner box set than this 'with a hat' edition.

"Here we go again..."
Oh, Jesus, this is ridiculous...
We've been Star Wars fans from the very beginning, and it's depressing to see that Lucasfilm/Fox have seen fit to re-release the original trilogy on DVD AGAIN!
The sets with the shoddily-transfered original versions tanked like no-one's business and it has come as quite a surprise to see them releasing the same set they brought out three years ago.
We'll wait until Lucas finally decideds to release a set that includes the deleted scenes...

That's BS.
The only reason YOU hear about it because the problems are DVD related. Fanbases always have something to argue/complain about.
We're not complaing as Star Wars fans - I hardly consider myself one - but as DVD fans. And Lucas' treatment of the original trilogy has been utterly abysmal.

Cool tin. pointless rerelease
How long will it be before all 6 films are finally included in one "definitive" (giggle) edition? seriously. This is becoming the new Evil Dead.
Every Christmas they come out in a slightly repackaged set. This is the fourth release of the set. There are some fans out there that will buy this because it is a new "release", and that is what Fox are looking for.
I think people should be allowed to moan at what is a pointless release, because it is simply not needed.

I am done with Star Wars releases...
...until we get the inevitable full collection HD release.

...until we get the inevitable full collection HD release. That's not going to happen and you can thank Microsoft for that, as they gave Paramount a lot of money to support HD-DVD. Lucasfilm will not release them on a HD format until there is a clear winner. So they were going to come out on Blu-Ray but Microsoft has momentarily stopped that.

Yawn.
