Cool
I've not bought the DVDs yet. I can understand those being 'forced' (heheh) to double dip may be upset though...

Who didn't see this coming?
WTF?! What's really sad about this is that even though I have the first released set, I might be tempted to pick this one up just because the box to the last set was so crappy and easily damaged. Have to regift the first one...
So, what are the predictions? How many more "limited" box sets are there coming our way? Between the OT and PT what, four more? *sigh*
Also, is it just me, or does that box look like more than a 3-Disc?

Uhhhhh? What in god's name is the purpose of this set? You lose the bonus disc from the previous trilogy release, and your paying about the same price. Plus, you know a 6 film set is bound to be released. Has 20th Century Fox snapped!?!? What kind of fools do they take us for? Not only do they have the nerve to do this nonsense, but they call it "limited". So what does that make the other one? Is that one going out of print? It's not like Star Wars is a dying franchise! They made record money with theatrical releases, mad money with the previous release of the trilogy on DVD, and Episode III is selling like crazy even though it hasn't been released yet! Good lord ya greedy bastards.
Hmm
... I don't think so.
Why would anyone want to buy the 97' Special Editions? The DVD set that is out now is basically the special editions but with completely restored footage, the special effects and sound were updated (and look/sound outstanding), plus a bonus disc was included. Now if this set were the original cuts ... I still wouldn't buy it because they're laughable. But I guess those who saw the originals in the theater would have that nastalgic value and want to own them even though they are horrible.
I still have the originals on VHS and prior to the DVD set, I couldn't bear to watch them because the graphics were horrible and the space battles were so slow and laughable that I didn't want to ruin the saga that I love. They were great for their time, but despite what the fanboys like to shout blasphemy of ... the update was a necessity!
Nice boxart though, maybe if the single disc artwork is cool enough I'll ask for a Christmas gift but as far as purchasing myself. Well I already cleared that matter up.

These are the '97 SE's?
If so, I'd DEFINITELY be tempted to buy them, as long as Hayden Christensen is removed from the end of ROTJ!
I believe these are the exact same versions currently available, only with a new box and WITHOUT the bonus disc. Fox is also re-releasing the other Star Wars movies. No need to get into a tizzy over this one.
Plus, for the record the original packaging looked far better anyhow.

You'd pay $50 for an 80-year-old to play Anakin Skywalker?

Shoot!! I forgot that the recently released SW trilogy was a 4-disc set.
Hmm, as mentioned, I can foresee even more re-releases. I may just wait lol.

I think I'll stick with the Star Wars Trilogy that came out last year. Just have to buy it.
Now if they had said that this was the original theatrical editions, this might have been tempting. But alas, its more pitiful than anything.
What will be interesting to see is if this simply the current set repackaged (with all of the faults), or whether it's a new release with fixed audio and all the video glitches fixed.
if it's the latter than Lucasfilm could be opening themselves up to some serious criticism and potentially some lawsuits (hey, people have done it for lesson reasons). They can't very well release a set with 'fixed' bits after claiming that there was nothing wrong with the last set...
Of course the early indications are that it's simply a repackaging job, which makes this about as necessary as Paris Hilton.

I suppose Fox is releasing this without the bonus disc in order to maintain continuity with the PT set release as well. It'll serve as a "bare-bones" set for those who don't want the bonus disc. But I do like the artwork for this set better...
Where the heck is the Prequel Trilogy Boxset release???!! I hope they're just releasing this set to cash in on the PT Boxset release too, and HOPEFULLY the PT Boxset will have an updated TPM with the new CG Yoda and a cleaned up transfer!!
1.) If this is lucas' way of fixing all the video and audio errors of the first box set (AFTER they REPEATEDLY said those 'errors' were 'intentional'
@#%#$ THEM!
2.) If they designed the new trilogy's box to match THIS box set and not the original box set? @#%#$ THEM!

Some clowns will buy it, I'm sure - because there is a new box. They bought the two R1 sets, too, because there was a fool screen release there, with a golden box rather than the proper silver one that the whole world has.

lol...good one.
Lucas won't spend the money to fix their "creative" choices until the next incarnation of the movies.
Too bad they aren't the originals though, for a second, I nearly jumped out of my chair when I saw the cover art.

I really don't understand this release at all. THIS IS SO WEIRD
Hmm, I know I'm just setting myself up for disappointment, but with the old style artwork, that really makes me think original editions.
*fingers crossed*

ahhh I'm freakin out I'm freakin out ahhh
just kidding. but come on, nothing to get upset about. it's the cheap version, for the cheap people. some folks don't even watch bonus features. this is for Them. They can have it.

crappy $$$ in
yet another shitty release by Lucasfilm so they can snatch all the you money of you. I really should put a ban on this, who's with me?
Pfft...whatever...
I don't see the purpose of this...
Ok now I am a huge Star Wars fan but what the hell is up with this?! I mean it seems as if it's just the original boxset without the special features. If it has new special features i may by it but i seems highly unlikely. This is dumb.
I think we're missing some important information here. No bonus disc. Old school artwork. . .I don't want to get my hopes up but is it at all possible these are the original versions?
I dont get it! Just a repackagin, thats it? Why waste the money!? What would make more sense is releasing a boxed set of the Prequel Films, right? or at least a boxed set of all six films. This just does not make any sense to me. There are plenty of other great Fox films that need Collector's Edition releases, so why not make those instead of wasting money on a lousy repackaging. Hell at least these could have been the original films, not the Special Editions. Well whatever, this should not surprise us, Fox is a complete idiot with stuff like this, so whatever.
I'll wait until I read an official statement before I pass judgement on this release.
Although I will admit that if they are either the original versions or the '97 special editions then I would buy this set!
Speaking of Star Wars - WalMart are doing an exclusive "The Story of Star Wars" DVD with their versions of the upcoming Episode III DVD. Worth bearing in mind if you're a completist!

I don't see the need for this new release. The star wars films are classics, however, that still does not warrant another release when the previous release is still available. There is nothing wrong with the version available now except for a few gliches.
Wait? Didn't they just release a DVD Trilogy Box Set for the second trilogy recently? What the fuck is the point of THIS?
IMO, this should have been a box set for the first trilogy (Ep. I-III). Now, THAT would make sense.

I also think that this new box set is for Episodes I-III
But I haven't heard any official news

Shhhhhh - don't be putting ideas in George's head!
I'm pretty sure he'll suck everyone with the 2-disc Episode III DVD this year and then we can all double dip with the prequel trilogy boxset next year (that way he ensures you double-dip on all three movies and not just the first two)!
