I'm not telling George what to do with his Star Wars flicks nor was I whining because he didn't put Padme at the end or ROTJ.

All I said was that I LIKE Christiansen at the end of ROTJ better than the 80 year old guy they originally had and would have loved to see Padme in there too. I didn't tell or demand George make changes as I see fit because truth is, I really don't care. I watch the movie and once it's over, it's over and back to life for me.

If you want the originals THAT BAD, go on ebay and buy the VHS tapes, buy a video recorder and tape them onto dvd. If they're so important to you, spend the money and do it. No one is stopping you. The quality on the originals SUX -- that's why he did the special editions in the first place so when you watch the $hitty VHS and transfer it to dvd, you won't even be able to tell it's a horrible copy because, yes, VHS has $hitty quality but so do the original movies so you can have all the $hitty quality your tiny heart desires.

I was six years old when SW came out in 1977, saw it at the Seaview Movie Theatre in Brooklyn then and saw all the other ones when they were released too but if I want to watch them again, I don't want to watch the $hitty quality and am glad Lucas updated it just like Paramount did on Star Trek The Motion Picture -- THAT original isn't on dvd either, dope.

Would you like to cook your food on a wood stove too? How about video games? Maybe all the video game people should make Pac Man just the way they did on the Atari 2600 -- because it's the original... naaaa.

Nope. You are missing the point entirely. People won't be upset with an updated Superman II since there's already an available version of the original. I agree Lucas has to update the originals and keep up them to scratch

but some want the originals as they were originally,but surely George as a reward for those fans who have stayed loyal to George and Star Wars for over 25 years by releasing the untouched ones for 2 months and/or limit it to 500,000/1,000,000 numbered copies instead of releasing merchandise such as SW toilet paper Red Darth Vaders and SW Bowling balls. a 2/3 month release or numbered release I feel it would not and should not compromise his "Vision" for the Star Wars Universe. After that is it, you will not see them anymore, if you want Star Wars you have have my new version.

I'm hopeful this PT release will at least have an updated TPM with the new CG Yoda we've all seen pics of floating around and a cleaned up transfer. Not too much to ask!

80 Year Old Anakin?? you know for all these years sebastian shaw's face was the one revealed beneath the dark exterior of vader's mask, and it worked just damn fine. the decision to toss hayden in there last minute was nothing more then an outlandish attempt by lucas to impose two things...

1) that everyone should be forced to except hayden as luca's choice to fill the shoes of vader... in a time when NO ONE DID (before sorta redeeming himself in III)

and,

2) to jump start his mission of tying in the prequels with the older trilogy after everyone had just about dismissed the prequels for barely being able to even shadow the spirit of the original films.

take all that away, and even still you'd have to be one dumbass filmmaker to emotionally reveal a character looking one way, only to (not even five minutes later) expect everyone to accept someone else completely different looking. add that to the fact that even alec guiness looked forty years older then ewan mcgreggor, instead of 19... furthermore, why was hayden sporting sebastian shaw's jedi garb which mind you he never wore not once in either II or III?

besides, if you have a problem with shaw being the orignal face beind the mask, then you obviously must be new to the franchise and/or too young to have ever appreciated SW before... it may have had a flaw here or there, but it was a lovely party back then... sorry you had to miss it.

What is it that makes SW so damn special ? Even when most people think its bad, they still spend ages wittering on about it. Whats so exciting about selling a vanilla version and a deluxe version ? I just don't care and i can't believe i  wasted 5 minutes disspearing about the fact that some of you seem to so much.

I find that ludicrous. Was Lucas high when he cast Shaw as Vader/Anakin originally? He made a decision, he should stick to it. All he's doing now is called backpedaling. I personally think it was rather difficult to determine Vader's age with all the scarring and whatnot. I don't think anyone questioned whether Shaw was too old to play Anakin until Lucas removed him from that scene. If Shaw was still alive, I bet he'd be pretty pissed about it.

I just think Lucas is spending way too much time readjusting the OT when he could be making VII, VIII, and IX. If he really cared about his precious stories, he'd finish the series instead of leaving it hanging. All this removing and adding of cr*p to the OT is retarded, and it's all a marketing ploy, it has nothing to do with art. If he's that concerned about perfecting his "art" from 20+ years ago, he can take the billion dollars he's sitting on and go invent a time machine. If he has a brain in his head, he'll make the last three chapters; SW is the only thing he's ever had real success with anyway(IMO), and if he strays from that, all the SW fans will resent him for it.

For the record, had I known those changes had been made to the OT, I wouldn't have bought the set.

WTF does Christensen being better looking have to do with anything? As for Padme, it would make no sense. She wasn't a Force user. Who would have taught her to retain her identity? There's no hope for some.

Hayden Christansen at the end of ROTJ removed? I wouldn't WANT Hayden Christiansen removed from the end of ROTJ. I like it better with him in it. It makes more sense to the story to have him there and looks better too. AND it connects the prequels to the original saga logically with him in it. Besides, Christiansen far better looking than the 80 year old they had in the original. If anything, I would like to see Padme thrown in at the end too, this way Luke would finally get a chance to see what a hottie his mother was and would give a nice happy ending to Anakin and Padme.

The ONLY one who should have a problem with a young Christiansen at the end of ROTJ is Yoda, because Christiansen gets to look all pretty at the end while he still looks like a 900 year old frog fossil!

Apparently, you're easilly amazed.  Of course the content is what matters, but an attractive package is always nice, especially for a much-beloved and influential/important film such as SW.  Most people enjoy looking at nice things - you can actually sell a book by its cover.

If it bothers you that much, you obviously have access to a computer and thereby the means to make you own packaging; it ain't rocket science to design and create your own DVD covers.

Hell, yes, I'd rather see a 78-year old Sebastian Shaw play Anakin. Shaw's face was the one we see behind the mask, he is the one who should have been the spirit of Anakin. Putting Cristensen in that scene ruined it for me, Lucas only did it to tie it in with the PT.

From what I see there, nothing is mentioned as "special" and yes, I realize that this is the actual trilogy in Luca's mind. However, doesn't fox have the final say in the matter? I think when it all comes down to it, fox can over rule Lucas on anything if they really wanted to, and this might be the time for them to do it. I don't see the need for this new release. The star wars films are classics, however, that still does not warrant another release when the previous release is still available. There is nothing wrong with the version available now except for a few gliches.

I dont get it! Just a repackagin, thats it? Why waste the money!? What would make more sense is releasing a boxed set of the Prequel Films, right? or at least a boxed set of all six films. This just does not make any sense to me. There are plenty of other great Fox films that need Collector's Edition releases, so why not make those instead of wasting money on a lousy repackaging. Hell at least these could have been the original films, not the Special Editions. Well whatever, this should not surprise us, Fox is a complete idiot with stuff like this, so whatever.

What will be interesting to see is if this simply the current set repackaged (with all of the faults), or whether it's a new release with fixed audio and all the video glitches fixed.

if it's the latter than Lucasfilm could be opening themselves up to some serious criticism and potentially some lawsuits (hey, people have done it for lesson reasons). They can't very well release a set with 'fixed' bits after claiming that there was nothing wrong with the last set...

Of course the early indications are that it's simply a repackaging job, which makes this about as necessary as Paris Hilton.

I think I'll stick with the Star Wars Trilogy that came out last year. Just have to buy it.

Uhhhhh? What in god's name is the purpose of this set? You lose the bonus disc from the previous trilogy release, and your paying about the same price. Plus, you know a 6 film set is bound to be released. Has 20th Century Fox snapped!?!? What kind of fools do they take us for? Not only do they have the nerve to do this nonsense, but they call it "limited". So what does that make the other one? Is that one going out of print? It's not like Star Wars is a dying franchise! They made record money with theatrical releases, mad money with the previous release of the trilogy on DVD, and Episode III is selling like crazy even though it hasn't been released yet! Good lord ya greedy bastards.

Cool I've not bought the DVDs yet. I can understand those being 'forced' (heheh) to double dip may be upset though...
