I thought this was suppose to come out October 16. Guess I was wrong. This seems a little too early. And this got descent reviews. Well at least okay reviews.
do i smell a double dip in the future anyway movie looks intresting ill give it a rent
That was quick - I wonder if "The Golden Compass" will be as quick.
Yes, the cover looks better. Although I didn't think the first one was bad. I cannot wait to get my hands on this. It's still my favorite movie this year.
Very entertaining movie that picks up as the movie goes on...
The new cover definitely has more pop to it.
More vibrant cover, looks much closer to the theatrical poster and looks a lot better. I already have the DVD on preorder but now I can't wait for this release.
I want to see the back cover of the box... what's the deal Paramount? You gave us the back art for "Next" and "Shooter", but not this title? What gives?

I love the new cover! It's not THAT different, but it is SOOO much better!
The revised artwork is much closer to the theatrical poster and looks less photoshopped, very nice!
PS- Post 400!!!

Better quote + Shorter title = BETTER COVER.
Love the better color contrast and the golden sword too

Wow! The colors are much more vivid and there's a much better quote on the cover now. I'm really glad they got rid of the tagline, too.
A HUGE improvement over the original artwork.

Ahhh i can't wait for this dvd. One of the best movies of the year for sure.
Im a bigger fan of the artwork now. Still a bit miffed that there's no 2 disk edition.

A bit disappointed about there not being a 2 Disk Special Edition. And could do with a little more extras.
Although ive heard nothing but good things, will make my own mind about it tomorrow when i finally get to see it ( I live in the UK, comes out 19th Oct )

I wish it had more extras. They could at least put a commentary track or something on there.
But the movie was extremely enjoyable, so I'll probably want it anyway.

A pretty good flick. A little slow at first, but it picks up speed at about a third of the way through. 3 of 5 stars!
Fantastic! This is going to the top of my Christmas Wish List!
This was definitely one of this year´s best films. It delivered a great cast who obviously relished their roles - especially Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro (the latter only briefly being used, shame). This film delivered a Princess Bride/Willow but with a bigger budget - a great family film - this is what Narnia wanted to be but only half succeeded.
However I am little disappointed with the DVD release, this should have received a loaded 2 disc release and should have kept the poster art as the cover.

Oh, and one more thing. Is it really neccesary to put variations of the word "magic" on the cover two different times?

It is sad. People were too busy flocking to Rush Hour 3. Pathetic.
And that stinkin' "Pirates of the Caribbean 3".
"Stardust" was the best movie of the summer. Hands down. And there were so many good movies too. Best summer movie season in years.

Not a big fan of the artwork. I liked the theatrical poster better. And come on - Cox carries this movie, and you can't even put his name on there along with Danes, Pfeiffer, and DeNiro? I understand you need big names up there to appeal to the masses, but at least put his name at the end - he was fantastic in the lead!
I'll probably pick this up as a stocking stuffer for the wife - we both really liked it but she loves the book as well and it's more her thing.
I was solidly entertained and really enjoyed the film. Sure, I had some problems with it (especially the ghosts, who got old after about 1 minute), but overall it was one of the better movies of the summer.

Was really looking forward to this movie, but it was just so goofy. I was severely disappointed.
I have not seen it but that dvd cover plus Robert De Niro and Michelle Pheiffer makes it a blind buy
Phieffer looks hot in that cover.

This movie was so much more than I had expected. Saw it a couple of weeks ago - and it was so much fun! Definitely picking up the HD DVD - although I don't like the Cover at all...

While I would have preferred the regular theatrical poster, the coverart is actually very very nice and sticks to the poster close enough. Just be happy that it isn't a bad cover from left-field. Can't wait to pick this up, but I would have loved a 2-disc edition (and I won't be surprised if there is one to come).
This was surprisingly decent. I really enjoyed it.

. . . come back to the blu side . . .
Every single New Release by Paramount will debut on HD DVD. Why wouldnt Stardust be one of them?
No, Paramount would not make the same mistake again on going back to the 'Blu side'. Blu-ray is ughhh.

Why was this thread removed for a while?
Anyway, true, the original poster/art work was better. I bought it and have it framed, hanging on my wall. But the DVD cover is pretty close to that. Again, wonderful film!

Horrible cover. Reminds me of some Merlin style televised nonsense or some such s**t. Wouldn't mind seeing the film though.
Well...they at least used the same character imagery from the poster and rearranged them. I would have loved to see the full poster as the cover art, though.
I'm not crazy about the "Love is Magic" tagline or that quote. Parenting Magazine? Sure this was fairly family oriented, but it was more for adults. This had a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 74 and that's the best quote they could put on the cover?
Yes, all this complaining and I am buying the DVD not only for myself, but a copy for my parents, my sister, and my older brother and his wife for Christmas, LOL.

They should've used the full-blown one-sheet artwork, the sunset-lit style artwork looked very pretty and less generic than the artwork for the DVD. And another usage of the blown-up Photoshop heads! Michelle Pfeiffer does have a leading role in the film, but Robert DeNiro's role is basically a glorified cameo.
Saw it in theatres; loved It; to bad it never seemed to find an audience.
Good flick; I quite enjoyed it. Very pretty to look at.
the trailers that aired on TV just didnt interest me.

You could say the same thing about "Children of Men" and Universal. Great movie but Universal gave it a January wide release without any promotion whatsoever in 1,000 theaters nationwide, and it grossed $35 million by the time it left theaters. (I guess that "Stardust" will make $40-$45 million by the time it closes.)
It's a shame the studios never really put any thought into marketing some of their potentially sleeper movies, and just wait for the DVD sales to make back the rest of it.

Why do people who haven't seen a film make remarks like this? Comment on the trailer all you want. And I agree with you that it was terrible and didn't do the movie justice at all. But thankfully I went with my gut and listened to the glowing reviews. Turned out to be the best film of the summer for me. I was hoping word of mouth would help but it's not. And it pains me to see c-r-a-p like "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" making 10 times at much at the box-office. I agree this movie will do better on DVD and maybe become a classic like "The Princess Bride", because it deserves it. It's a wonderful film.

It doesn't even come out in the UK until October, and thats where most of the cast and director are from. Thats when it'll make its money. Also, dvd sales are bound to bring in plenty for this movie. Probably one of the more entertaining movies of the summer. Pirates of the carri-what?

I absolutely loved this film. And I was feeling horrible about how it's doing in the box office until I read that The Princess Bride was huge box office bomb and didn't grow popular until it was out on video. I'm hoping that this film will share it's fate.
This IS quick. Just saw this for the second time, and loved it even more. It's so different from the book but just as good.
I'll definitely buy this one.

If you want a fast DVD announcement, look no further for the announcement for "Black Snake Moan" and "The Ice Harvest" -- those were announced two weeks after the movies were released in theaters (as well as "Surviving Christmas" and "From Justin to Kelly" ). However this movie is holding up much better than any of those.
For those expressing their desire to go see it, go do so! Going to a bargain matinee is much more cheaper than buying a used DVD or using Netflix to see it, provided the prices are reasonable.
I think Paramount is just announcing it to spur more people to see it before it goes out of theaters. And besides, more interest in the movie might encourage Paramount to include more extras, hopefully a commentary.

This makes me chuckle. The movie hasn't even been in theaters for a month, and they announced the DVD already. I wanted to see this really badly, I guess I'll just catch it in a 2nd-run theater.
Interesting - Most of the best films this summer have come out in August: Bourne Ultimatim, Superbad, Simpsons Movie (technically late July) and Stardust.
Can't wait for this one on DVD. Shame about the middling box office, but it seems to be holding fairly well.

I'm glad there are people on here supporting this. This truly is a great film.
I may go see it again today if I have time.

You can and it's still playing nationwide. Just see it, support the future careers of Pfeiffer, DeNiro, Cox and Danes!
Although comparisons to "The Princess Bride" seem out of sorts, because it's much less jokey and more serious than the former.

A genuinely charming film and a definite buy.

I honestly think every major film studio should openly support both high-def formats just to play fair and then see what format sells better before taking sides when the whole format war mess started. Personally, I'm avoiding the high-def format and sticking to regular DVD, because the format war for me is just a niche market for me.
Although if Paramount supported both high-def formats again, I wouldn't buying the DVD and both high-def versions of "Stardust"... yeah I love the movie THAT much.

the scene with DeNiro dancing French Cancan in Dragqueen outfit is an instant classic !

I just got back from this and I was very pleasantly surprised. A pretty fun movie, and it was actually quite humorous as well. I certainly wouldn't buy the DVD, but I'd recommend the film.

Did you see it? The advertisements made it look god awful, but it was a very entertaining movie. See it before passing judgment since so many people obviously thought it was great.

Still, even with the quick DVD turnaround, Paramount should've put more extras on the DVD. Heck, even the earlier duds such as "Shooter" and "Black Snake Moan" both got an commentary and this doesn't? An utter shame... unless the making-of featurette and blooper reel are entertaining, this seems like a disappointing platter of extras.
Oh well, it's worth it for me just for the movie itself -- and since it'll be released the week before Christmas, I know what to put on my wishlist.

utterly fantastic film. One of the best films of this summer. I'm glad I saw it in theaters. I wouldn't mind seeing it again in theaters before the DVD release.

That was super-quick...
I have to admit that it was one of the movies I was looking forward to the most this summer, but after seeing it (opening weekend, just three weeks ago...) I have to say that it wasn't as good as I hoped.
Not having read the book, I guess I expected too much from it (i.e. to be the next Princess Bride), and it seemed like it lacked the heart and whimsy of that classic.
I agree that Michelle Pfieffer and Robert De Niro were great, but overall it left something to be desired.

Very good and entertaining film that deserved to do better at the box-office. Definitely getting it on dvd.
I'll wait for the HD DVD exclusive!
Whoa that was fast! really really fast!
This was an awesome movie. Destined to become a classic. Reminded me a lot of The Princess Bride. Michelle Pfiffer? Amazing.
It's much better than the trailers are letting on. Think of it as "The Princess Bride" meets "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" with a dash of "Hocus Pocus" and "Willow" thrown in. And Charlie Cox is a much more charismatic hero than, say, Orlando Bloom.
Sure, it comes out in December. But already announcing a DVD for a big-budget movie that hasn't even been out for 3 full weeks is pretty bad and fast. You haven't even seen that happen with Skinwalkers or Underdog or Who's Your Caddy?
That aside, this movie still looked really lame. :/

I loved this film -- a nice and intelligent throwback to the '80s style fantasy films. DeNiro and Pfeiffer stole the show, obviously and Pfeiffer is still hot even in her late 40s. And a great score by Ilan Eshkeri too.
And this film is still playing in 2,000 theaters nationwide, so go see it before it goes out and hits the second-run theaters (it's doing much better than "Black Snake Moan" but that's faint praise considering the budgets for both movies are vastly different). It needs all the monetary support it can get, but the DVD extras look pretty paltry -- no commentary by Matthew Vaughn or Neil Gaiman? And this should be released in HD as well.

Even though it's announced early and just came out early this month it's still being released in December... thats still a ways away.

It's a shame that people chose Rush Hour 3 over this. This truly is one of the better films of the summer. Heck of a lot of fun.

This is a great film. Cool story, witty dialogue, and a superb cast with some great performances. Will definitely pick this up on day's release. Too bad this film isn't doing so well in theaters.
