Sucker Punch (US - DVD R1 | BD)
Warner Home Video announces DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie
Title: Sucker Punch (IMDb)
Starring: Emily Browning
Released: 28th June 2011
SRP: $28.98 (DVD)
Further Details:
Warner Home Video has announced DVD ($28.98) and Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($35.99) releases of Sucker Punch for June 28th. As far as we know, the only extra material on the DVD release will be an Animated Shorts: Sucker Punch Prequel Stories feature. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo release will include that, plus an extended cut of the film with an additional 18 minutes, a maximum movie mode hosted by director Zack Snyder, and a digital copy of the film. We've attached some early artwork below:

Quote: Born from the creative vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300), this epic action fantasy launches from the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Locked away against her will, Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four fellow captives – outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) – to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorki (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

Easily one of my favorite movies of the year so far. Picking up the BD for sure as the 18 minutes should hopefully flesh out some of the things for sure.

The special features for "Scott Pilgrim" were finished as it hit theatres and Snyder/Wright seem to be of the same detail-oriented ilk so things won't be so bad. Heck, the two films share the same initials and Snyder even wrote the artbook for "Sucker Punch". I wish Wright had an artbook for "Scott Pilgrim"...
i understand that, its normal for the extras to be prepared in advance. i just mean the release is rushed. there's just a slightly over 3 month gap between the theatrical and home video release. i know movies come out faster these days but this is really close. i figured it woulda gotten a august release, july at the earliest.
i remember when dvds came out 5-7 months later, now we're at an average of 4-5 and in some cases like these, 3 months. i get the impression one day it'll be a simultaneous theatrical/home video release. lol

Is it just 18 minutes of up-skirt shots?

i wouldn't say no to that.

Well, I think that once a film isn't in theatres, it should be out on DVD. With that said, films aren't in theatres nearly long enough. I'm beating a well-weathered drum by complaining about Hollywood films being ruled by The Opening Weekend, not being allowed to breathe, and there're folk far wordier about the topic than I can be here so I'll put down my drumsticks.

Before DVD's and theatrical releases are happening simultaneously, I think we're going to see a lot more big movie companies take a stab at on-demand sales.
Magnolia and IFC have been releasing movies on demand alongside their theatrical releases for a while, and from what I understand its a pretty successful business model.

Easily the film that made me most angry this year, and also one of the most inept films I've ever witnessed through the glory of an IMAX screen.
Zack Snyder had a lot of good will from me before the film began. Less so 10 minutes in. None by film's end.
It's all about rape for goodness sake, and the action is dull, lifeless, limp, the music is just comprised of terrible cover songs, the characters dull, or stupid, nothing works, I mean, ARGH! It makes me angry just thinking about it.

It's not all about rape (granted a lot of it is).
This film was so disappointing. I'd finish this comment, but I just went into a dream sequence.
Are you currently being raped?
Horrible, horrible movie. Made no sense from beginning to end.
Extended cut?!?!? Is that so I can sleep longer? Oh boy. What a waste of a blu-ray disc. Just burn the original print. UGH!

LMAO!!! That's really funny!

Well, in their cases and speaking from personal experience, it's damn hard finding a theatre that'd play something of theirs. I don't think it'd be that hard to find a theatre that has "Dark Knight Rises" when it comes out. I think Warner is gonna beam the Batsignal onto the moon during release week.

No, but they are the only two that weren't either butchering a classic comic or promoting racism/homophobia/intolerance of other religions and general doucheyness.
That's funny, because, to me, "that Owl Movie" was by far the most insidious in that regard, with its manichean, mystical parable about a "just war" against the "evil ones".
Good point!

i LOVED this movie!!
if the extended cut is ONLY on BD i'll be getting my copy other ways.

Yeah, I'm just saying I think they will milk people with on-demand prices instead of releasing the DVD/Blu-ray simultaneous to the theatrical release, if things ever reach that point (and I doubt they will). And holy c**p that would be the best marketing ever.

Missed this in theaters. Everyone, including the critics, said that the movie sucked and all that, but it looked really interesting to me. I don't know, maybe I'll Redbox it. The cover is great, though.

Like what you want and if something interests you, take chances, make mistakes, and get messy. The worst thing that can happen with you watching something is that you won't like it. By not watching something, the worse than can happen is that you'll miss out on a film that you'd watch forever. I'm not saying that "Sucker Punch" will be The Film for you, just don't let critics and the like sway you from watching something you might like. There're plenty of films out there that're critics' darlings that people wouldn't be caught dead with, and there're some films out there that people love that have critics making sacrifices to their Fellini idol. And, AND critics have been known to eat crow about a film that they bashed so much (see "Robocop" and "Fight Club"
. So like what you want.

But seriously, this film is visually gorgeous. But a prime example of a film that is empty, predictable, overly formulaic and pretentious. I was very excited to see this film too.
Personally I enjoy Zack Snyders style of filmmaking. Watchmen, Dawn of The Dead and even 300 are entertaining films. Sucker Punch is empty. I do not care what happens to the central characters, the dream sequences make me check out of the film (especially by the 3rd one) and by the end of the film I am checking what the time is.

Between your Harakiri avatar and your choices of women, I must say that you have immaculate taste sir. Keep up the good work.

AMAZING Movie. First day purchase.
This sucks, the director's cut is only on Blu-ray? Assh*les! Guess I'm being forced into buying an extended cut so I can see the superior version of the movie I can only watch on my laptop. *rolls eyes
The DVD art is better than the Bluray art. Lame.
The visuals were great but the story was weak. I hope those extra 18 minutes helps.
the little girl from Lemony Snicket really grew up...
