They should have somehow got the rights to that poster that looked like Drew Struzan drew it. That is a great poster.
Love the DVD artwork too.

Totally agree.

Oooo! I like the new cover art!
I'm with the ones saying the DVD got it best now, why nit change the bluray cover? To give the best of both worlds they could have used the yellow for a slipcover then just use the new DVD artwork for the inner case.
Thank God they revised the DVD artwork. I wish they wouldn't have added those pictures at the bottom, it would have been just fine without them. But anything's better than that atrocious red/yellow combination.

Now it's a big f-you to Blu-Ray owners. I think I'll pick up the Dvd just so every time someone looks at my Blu-Ray collection their eyes don't immediately direct to the binding of "Super 8."

This cover is much more mintier.

I like the cover art and I love the movie. I can't wait to see it again.
Just got an email that there will be an update to the artwork soon.
"It would have been better if that yellow cover was a box with a flap you open to slide out the blu-ray case(which would have the movie poster for the cover) like you would open the film package."
^ This. If this art was on a digipak in the style of the venture bros. boxes or even the old 20th Century fox digipaks (similar to Fight Club) none of us would be complaining right now.

How cool is the monster compared to CloverField creature
Super 8 was awesome. One of the best this year. I honestly don't like the cover art but the movie is definitely a must buy on the combo pack.
Super 8 The Perfect American Summer Film 10/10
Don't really like the cover, I didn't get the Kodak reference (and many others won't). The main problem is it doesn't look retro enough, just looks like a flashy yellow cover. They shoudl've used the poster.
Great movie though, halfway through it I started thinking it might actually be a Cloverfield prequel which they'd kept quiet on.

I like the idea but it wasn't executed very well. Maybe it'll look better in person.
It would have been better if that yellow cover was a box with a flap you open to slide out the blu-ray case(which would have the movie poster for the cover) like you would open the film package.
The old Kodak Super 8 packaging was pretty cool. If that's what they were going for, then make it look retro cool like that. What they've done, at least what's represented here, is extremely unappealing. If I didn't already know what the movie was and saw that on the shelf, I'd never want to grab it and see what it was about.
The movie itself was pretty good.

I heard nothing but awesome things about Super 8, definite blind buy. Though that art work is not the best.
Don't like the cover. Don't hate it though. Might go for the combo pack, this one was pretty good.
I don't really mind the cover. I would of gone with the sideways poster, but at least we get to see the movie again, that's the main point about buying a DVD or Blu-ray! Anyways, Super 8 IS or IS ONE OF the best movies of the year! I've been waiting ssoo looong for this movie ever since the teaser trailer came out with Iron Man 2 last year. I've been waiting a whole year and month for this movie! It was my most anticipated movie of the year. No other teaser trailer made me want more than Super 8's trailer. And it delivered! Truely is a beautiful film. J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg are a dream team. The kids were amazing actors, especially Elle Fanning. Acting just runs in the family, I guess. I was a little disappointed that they didn't show the monster more often. Just a few blinks of it until they showed it's full form at the end. Still, the movie was definitely worth the wait and I will be getting this the first day on Blu-ray!
Yeah, that Kodak reference is pretty obscure, this day and age. It looks like I could use it as a safety cone...
I can see what they were going for - an old Super 8 package slip, but it comes off as lazy and unappealing. I'd take it over a Photoshopped cover any day. Still, this film was very good. The coming-of-age story is the thing that stands out the most. The ending wasn't great, but the film is still one of my favorite's of the year.
How boring. lol
I don't mind the cover. I prefer this over a cover with floating heads or some really bad cover art jobs you see on releases many times over
i don't mind the cover at all. i LOVED this movie. regarding subtle (or not) covers, i very much liked the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES cover (from a couple of days ago) too but apparently many people didn't like it.
Cover looks like something from a petrol (gas) station
llama, something that takes the subtle approach can still be disappointing. It all comes down to execution. While I don't necessarily hate this cover, and I see what marketers were getting at with the whole 'Super 8' film angle, it still certainly could have been a lot better, subtle or not.
An excellent example of subtle, yet fantastic in execution, would have to be the original Jurassic Park logo. Although simple and contained, with only black as its backdrop, it has become completely iconic. Show someone that logo and they will say "Ah, yes. Jurassic Park."

So, I just don't get it. Whenever a cover is an obnoxious photoshop job, we're met with complaints that it isn't subtle. And then whenever a cover is subtle, we're met with complaints that it isn't and obnoxious photoshop job. In any case, I certainly prefer to original, sideways theatrical poster, but I still quite this one.
But dvdtown.com had it listed a few months ago and they showed a whole other cover, it was much more like the poster, I'll try to link it later or y'all can search there.
Whoever designed the cover must be the laziest SOB in the world. It's an 'ugly' cover for the interesting movie.
LOL yeh that cover is hideous. Also wasnt this originally set for October? Maybe the delay also changed the cover art? I enjoyed this ok but i dont need to buy it. Once is enough
is this cover a joke?

Totally agree. One can sense J.J. Abrams spent about 90% of his energy directing the child actors and did everything else on auto-pilot (script included)...
He certainly had the intention of paying homage to the Spielberg cinema of the late 70s/early 80s, but the result felt more like a checklist rip-off of Jaws and Close Encounters and ET and Gremlins and The Goonies and Jurassic Park all at the same time, which of course couldn't possibly turn out great.

Looks like the idea was to represent the look of old Kodak Super 8 packaging:

Still looks pretty awful and lazy though.

Uhhhhhhhhhhm...
Well that's bewildering.
