Super Blunder (US - DVD R1)
Warner's 'Ultimate Superman Collection' is anything but that thanks to huge error
Title: Super Blunder
Starring: Christopher Reeve
Released: 28th November 2006
SRP: $99.92
Further Details:
Those of you who have pre-ordered copies of Warner Home Video's forthcoming Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition might want to think twice. Due to a massive technical blunder, the Superman III: Deluxe Edition discs contain the original 2001 release of the film, rather than the advertised disc with commentary, additional scenes and a vintage featurette.
Reports indicate that The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and the individual release of Superman III: Deluxe Edition are unaffected. At this time there has been no word on whether or not Warner intend to issue replacement discs. Even if replacement discs are made available, non-US residents who purchased the set will most likely be left out in the cold. When you combine this with the fact that the advertised original 1978 Dolby Stereo soundtrack for Superman: The Movie is also missing, what could have been the year's best release becomes a less than attractive proposition...

oh, great I guell I'll have to wait to get this, and I really wanted it
Ding bats at Warner, I mean come on how can you make this mistake! I don't even know what else to say, other than that they look pretty f**kin stupid.
Is this the same for the UK release?
Unknown at the moment. I can honestly say that I'm shocked by the sloppy quality control for the flagship release of one of their biggest properties. It's like George Lucas releasing a bare-bones version of Star Wars. Oh wait...
i just bought it and I can confirm that Superman 3 is the 2001 disc the only extra is the trailer. Thank god thats the only error. The soundtrack of the score is on the expanded version of superman the movie along with an audio commentary with Richard Donner
I recieved the set yesterday and found out about this today.i've had to order the individual Superman III and will jusyt have to replace the one in the boxset with the new one(although the disc art will be different from the rest of the dvds in the set!) :-(
Well f**k! I used a $50 gift certificate from Amazon to help pay for mine. If I cancel my order, I'll probably lose that GC discount.
Guess I'll have to buy the separate release to get the proper disc, if they don't do a disc exchange.

I just read this article and went to Amazon straight away - only to see they're preparing my order for delivery! Of well - I guess as I'm in the UK I have no way of getting a replacement disc when they offer them! Grrrr - I'm quite upset because I'm one of the few people who LOVE Superman III - it's actually my favorite of the series!
Oh Man!
Superman
I think Warner will release a replacement Disc. Just like Universal did for Back to the future. It just might just take about a month to get your disc.
Yar but how will that work for imports?

I somehow doubt that Warner will replace the disc for people from oher countries but you never know,I think there were some instances where Universal replaced the defective BTTF2 disc for people from outside the U.S.

that sucks...the fans must be pissed of..glad i'm not one of the..otherwise i'd be frustrated to...but i'm more than sure that they will replace the Disc..i try to find out about R2 at Warner tomorw..i'll post as soon as i'll grab any info.
Ohh dear...
I bought my Ultimate box set from Asia R3 and just checked my Superman III disc and it is the deluxe edition as intended
That's just completely careless.
very stupid question but worth asking.....lol
i realize both canada and america share a region but....i'm in canada so is there any chance that this is just affecting copies made for america? because I did notice that dvds bought here always mention they're manufactured in a town near me so maybe its an american manufacturing issue?
so if anyone in canada bought this or whatever and knows...i'd appreciate knowing...lol

oh wow, guess I am not buying the 100 bucks version next week or should I buy it and WAIT for warner to release the replacement disc shortly after with them no chance of actually recalling the discs from retail and release a version 2 like bttf?
Warner also will lose some $$$'s because they will have to set up a disc replacement program to people who have purchased the boxset and mail thousands and thousands out. It amazes at how stupid this pending whole situation truly is on Warner's part!
ewwwww, wtf
i wasnt planning on buying this anyways. I was just gonna get the 8 disc set.

well I already owned the original superman dvd box set that came out a few years ago. I just ordered the HD-DVD versions of Superman Returns & Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. Those were the only 2 disks I wanted and I am glad I ordered Them on HD-DVD. I am happy with the HD-DVD attachement for the X-Box 360.
Who the hell does quality control at Warners anyway? I mean, how hard is it play a DVD to make sure it's the correct version? I'm still buying the set but am very unhappy with WB's replacement disc program (assuming they offer one). I remember waiting on my replacement Thundercats, season 1, disc 1 to arrive and it took a few months!
At least it is only "Superman III". I know it's the principle of the damn thing, but still, at least it's not the Donner Cut.
I pre-ordered my copy from Overstock.com and can't cancel, unfortunately. But even with this blunder it's a better deal than getting the Reeve collection, Donner cut and SR separately. I'm hoping against hope that perhaps a few S3 discs for the ultimate edition were pressed correctly. If not, get after Warner to offer an exchange.
whoops.
Wow, if I hadn't have seen this, I would have been quite pissed come when I unwrapped it. I don't think I'll be buying it this Tuesday if what I hear about the replacement program is true (I guess Clerks 2 only). What sucks is the fact that when they do fix it in stores, the price will most likely be uber-high, unlike the deals with the first week out. Well, good job Warner, you just lost eighty bucks (for the time being) from me. Happy Holidays Meatheads at Warner! (And thanks DVDACTIVE for this announcement, keep us posted please!)
I am probably the biggest Superman fan in the whole world - exaggeration of course, but honestly, he is my idol - and this really doesn't irk me that much.
I mean, sure, sucks a bit, and Warner Bros. should get a good slap in the face for it...but honestly the movie is prety bad to begin with, and were we really expecting a mind-blowingly incredible commentary track?

I was right to buy the C.reeves collection instead of this "Ultimate" ...
So Superman 3 in "The Christopher Reeve Collection" (Region 2) set is ok? I opted to put off buying the collection until after christmas..... phew. I think there must be a problem somewhere at Warner - didnt they also screw up The Goonies DVD's?
