I'd hope that Warner Brothers wouldn't make that same mistake twice.

Fantastic news on this release. I was just thinking the other day, that I hadn't bought a Superman release for a good couple of years now. Thank God the wait is over. I've had a surplus of cash kicking around for ages now. I just knew something was up. "Why have I got some spare cash?" I'd think to myself. "Superman BD Boxset" would come the reply. "That's right. It all makes sense now".
I've still got £20 lurking around to buy the 300 BD again as well. Where's that at?

I don't see how they can do a Superman movie without the hugely iconic theme song. I just can't imagine seeing Superman flying around without that great John Williams tune. It just wouldn't be right.
Regardless of whether or not there are future releases, I agree that it's highly unlikely that we'll see these films packaged with the Zack Snyder reboot. That's as likely as seeing Joel Schumacher's Batman films in the same package as Christopher Nolan's, given the complete reboot approach they've been shouting about.
I quite like all of these films apart from Superman IV (and even that has its moments for me, though admittedly mostly for the sake of nostalgia) so I'll be glad to pick these up. Does anyone know if we get all 8 discs in the UK? Some sites have it listed as only 5 discs.

They won't. Warner are releasing this set as the last word on the Christopher Reeve/Brandon Routh Superman movies, hence the "1978-2006", as if to signify the beginning and the end of that period - almost a death.
Superman: Man of Steel will have absolutely nothing to do with the previous films - they aren't even using any of John Williams' iconic score. This is going to be a grass-roots reboot and they obviously want to distance themselves as much as possible from what has gone before; that is why they are releasing this set a year before the new film is released.

EDIT: OK, they might mean it as the last word, but if it were, then where is all the TV footage from Superman: The Movie? Or the terrible "international reaction" footage from the TV version of Superman II? Something tells us that there are future releases to come...

A bit pricey! I wonder if anyone can confirm whether the UK region-free version is identical to this? The price across the Atlantic is much cheaper also!
I'll probably hold off until 2012 whey they give us another box set in time for the reboot with Henry Cavill. Otherwise, I'd get the first two both theatrical and expanded, director's cut and I thought Superman Returns was okay.
I love the 1978-2006 on the bottom.
As if 2006 is when the Superman franchise died.

Warner have confirmed that there are new transfers for the theatrical editions of the first four movies, with a more recent HD master for the extended STM. Visually, SII - The Donner Cut and Superman Returns are exactly as they were.
All come with DTS-HD:MA 5.1 tracks, which is new for Superman III, but The Quest for Peace is only in DTS-HD:MA 2.0. This is probably due to the infamously poor treatment Cannon had for the original elements of all their movies rather than Warner reflecting the general opinion of the film itself.

I'll pass on this one until the AQ is rectified.

I just want to see the original opening of Superman Returns. Just don't care to own the Blu-ray set at this time.
I wonder if warner is releasing this set now has something to do with that court ruling that is causing them to rush a new Superman film into production.

Ah yes, the opening of Superman Returns, the most expensive, elaborate fan-movie ever made. Right: as only mentioned in the finished film, Supes leaves earth for a few years to investigate claims that the location of Krypton had been discovered. Upon arrival, he finds it to be a dead chunk of rock in space with rubble orbiting it. Resigned to his homeworld being totally lost, he heads back to Earth to the life he thought he might be leaving behind.
When the movie was running far too long, Singer found that this was an easy deletion, as it was fully explained later on. The original opening was shot specifically for 3D, which becomes obvious with the debris floating around the remains of Kryton, and Singer held the footage back for a proposed IMAX release later on, which is a surprise never happened, as any attempt to boost the returns for the movie would have been logical, given how it underperformed at the box office.

I'll be getting this. The only one I hated was 4. Part 3 was a guilty pleasure. I enjoyed the introduction of Lana and the whole good Superman vs. evil Superman.

That certainly IS entcicing and i bet closer to the relase date there will be other titles too that include the ticket. My only problem is it'll be one of those annoying print off tickets and will only be up to like 8 bucks or so. I just have a theory that if they are going to call it free ticket then it should be entirely free, especially since some are going to see it in 3D. Thats just my thing, i hate having to pay even a buck if i have a free pass. LOL just the principal of the thing.

As long as this has the original 2.0 mix that was such a trouble on the tin set, I'm all in for this. When I watch a movie, I want the original sound. That's why I love the original mono mixes on the old Disney movies so much.
Morsoth wrote: Wow! Even if I only like the first and second movies (Superman Returns isn't too bad but I truly hate the idea of having Luthor AGAIN as the villain, and worse with having a super-baby...) but this package looks beautiful! I was a big Superman fan when they came out, and I think the nostalgia factor will win on me.
I liked having a superbaby, even though it didn't make any sense. In Superman II, when Lois and Clark had sex, he was human. So, logically, any baby that they made would be human, too. Not super. Doesn't make sense.
So, probably not a Day One Buy, but a sure buy in the future if the price goes down around or after Christmas.

Where's the mention of new transfers? If they offer the same lame video quality, I'm holding off until yet another set comes out.

Maybe that's what they don't want to do coz when Snyder's Supes are out, people will be reminded how awful three of these movies are and won't buy this set even more. Perhaps it's more beneficial for Warner to release this set in the time of anticipation of the new Supes.

I agree with most of y'all on here. I'll timed, only 2 good films, and wait for individual releases. SR was such a flawed film, I wanted to like it so bad. Can anyone tell me about the original opening? I have never heard about it. Isn't singer kinda secretive on most cut footage? The first Xmen supposedly has tones of cut footage and even the commentary he didn't want to talk about it,
I meant ILL timed. Lol iPad corrects me

Please tell me I'm not the only one that's disappointed that the original version of Superman II hasn't as of yet been announced as an individual release? Besides the first film--which I already own on Blu-ray but wouldn't mind the full blown special edition--I have no need or want of the other three films on Blu-ray.
Still no commentary for Superman Returns from Bryan Singer?
its neat that they used the same box style, down to how it opens, that they used on the Batman Anthology set. i have the dvd version, the one that came in a tin as well, so i wont be getting this. but i am surprised it took this long to release this. and as that other person said, surprised they didnt wait for the new movie's release.
although, doesnt Smallville end in May? maybe they're releasing it to tie into all of that hoopla.

I do want this, but I'll hold off for individual releases. 3, 4 and Returns are awful.
These are supposedly all-new transfers, so let's hope that the one for Superman Returns is better than the last one.
It appears that the fabled original opening to Superman Returns is included here - hopefully it will be seen in its entirety and not just Bryan Singer or other production people discussing what was going to be depicted.
