Well, I guess we just don't understand each other.

Some Stooges can be downloaded from archive.org, so they apparently are in public domain...
As for the dozens that can be downloaded from P2P networks, IRC channels, et caetera, it's debatable whether they are in public domain or not...

...
kinda sucks that its in color.
To answer an above question, these 4 stooge shorts have been in public domain since 1987, when a paperwork error was made when Columbia pictures renewed the rights. They have been released countless times by countless studio's. But since they have been remastered, and include the original B & W, I will pick this up, since CTS have yet to release 2 of these shorts
(MITP and SASOSP). Also, to correct DVD Answers details in the article, Curly is "not" in Soup To Nuts. Soup To Nut was the first time the Stooges appeared on film, for Fox Studio's in 1930. And it was Moe, Larry, and yes, Shemp. After this film, Shemp left to go out on his own, and Moe brought in his kid brother Curly after they went to MGM with Ted Healy.

It was reported though that a new and better form of colorization was used for the 3 Stooges.

Some people honestly won't touch a movie if it's in black and white. I've actually seen people saying they won't touch any movie before 1980 either. Some people, I just don't understand...
Yeah, a friend of mine suffers from this and other film related afflictions...tried to get him to watch The Seven Samurai the other night and after five minutes of subtitles and black & white cinematography he'd had enough. The statement, "you bought a HD tv to watch stuff like this?" comes immediately to mind.

Colorization of films shot in black and white is an abomination.

I've always wondered this, and i'm going to take this opertunity to ask, how do they make something that was black and white...in color?
is there some way of telling *yeah i know, i'm stupid, i honestly don't know okay* or do they hire someone who 'guesses' what looks best and inputs it?
Ever play around with photoshop? thats essientially all they do to colourize a movie. Take it frame by frame and use a program to paint each frame until the whole darn thing is in colour.
If it's a company thats really good at it, they use comercially unavailable software to do it and the results can look so good you would be hard pressed to tell they werent shot in colour. However, that process is ridiculously expensive so most go the cheaper route, which looks the case of the product above. You get poor skin tone and pastel looking colours that are affected by the contrast of the original black and white image.
As for what colours they choose, it all depends on what company who does it. The more expensive ones will research out what everything actually looked like at the time of shooting. The cheaper companies just guess and colour something that they think looks nice.
Really the only benefit of colourization (if you want to call it that) is a lot of background detail can stand out that wasnt that noticable before because it was shaded in darkness or just scuffed up from the years of degradation. These companies should restore the movies ala Citizen Kane, rather then trying to colourize and re-invent them

I think those shorts are included as well actually Aaron. Fox hasn't sent me a press release though, so I can't confirm that yet...

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000!
Buy this for the MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 COMMENTARY!!! Im assuming that its only going to be Mike Nelson, and not the entire cast of MST3K because I have two other Fox DVD titles (Night of the Living Dead - in color, and Reefer Madness - in color) and they both have the commentary from only Mike Nelson. Both of which, are hilarious. If anyone can make a bad movie good, it him. Also, there were color or B/W options on the other versions, but the commentary was only on the new color version. Oh yeah, I guess if you like the 3 Stooges you may like this too...
Wait a minute! Does anyone know if some of the Three Stooges shorts have fallen into public domain? I thought Columbia (Sony) produced and owns the rights to the shorts listed on the cover.
Wait a sec, this the collection that has both B&W and Colour right? then why just advertise that theyve been tampered by being colourized on the cover? They should mention on the cover it has BOTH so the real movie buffs wont pass them over.
Oh and if the cover is a reflection of the finished product then they havent done a good job of it - Their skin tone looks morbid and their outfits look pasted on

Snow White on Ice...
Having a soft spot for the guys, we saw a broadcast of Snow White and the Three Stooges a few years ago, and boy is it a pile of old crap.
Essentially, it is an ice-skating version of the classic fairytale with the Stooges written into it to capitalise on their huge resurgance on television in the early 60s. The boys look uncomfortable, the pacing stops dead at musical ice-dance numbers and is so rink-bound that they could have shot it all if they locked-off their Panavision camera.
The pluses are: they guys in colour. the GORGEOUS saturated hues afforded the movie, the impressive scope cinematography and Carol Heiss (Snow White) is an absolute cracker with a terrific arse on her.
