wow....i dont think this even played in theaters here and we usually get everything. i mean it didnt even play at the arthouse type theaters or anything. considering the high profile-ness of it all, i'm surprised.

i got a chance to see this...and i really liked it. short and to the point. i'm probably in the minority here...but i still really like mel gibson. great performance in this.
I loved the movie, I have no problems with Mel Gibson (If you try to extort money from a dude, dude is gonna leave you some angry messages)... but damn, that is some ugly Artwork.
I liked Roger exerts review, of course I haven't seen the film but the plot is a tad too silly for me. I may rent it.

It did play in theatres in Canada and it still is.
I'd like to see this film since I'm interested in the plot and Mel Gibson's performance.

I'll definitely give this a watch. The concept is obviously a bit silly, but I think it will be worth it for Gibson's performance. You can say what you want about the man, but he's a great actor, and a fairly good director.
I never really cared about Mel Gibson as an actor, but I'm a big fan of his as a director and I think his movies in that capacity are highly underrated.
The trailer for this looked great and want very much to see it but although it has both a distributor and a title here, "A New Awakening", and was officially released on May 27, it's nowhere to be seen within driving distance, as far as I know.
I hope it doesn't end up tanking like The Way Back, because of a stillborn distribution scheme.

Another movie that I inexplicably want to see. Looked great, got bad reviews, and flopped. Oh well, this and Dylan Dog can be double feature night for me.

Critically wise The Beaver got mildly grazed, Dylan Dog on the other hand was clubbed to death like a seal.

It went about 2 for 3 with critics, which isn't bad. And the box office flop has a lot more to do with its flawed distribution model than the film. It only played in 168 theaters at its peak, versus the 3000+ that mainstream fare usually gets.

I would never expected Mel Gibson to work on something like this. I'm not saying it's bad; I've never seen it, it's just that it looks too... weird. I'm not at all interested in seeing it, though. The cover looks terrible.
Am I the only one who thinks it's slightly funny that Jodie Foster directed a movie called "The Beaver"?
And yes, I know a stuffed animal of a beaver is in the film, I just thought it was kind of funny.

Gibson is a screen icon and will being seeing this on disc for sure!
Just back from seeing it, may import this if the UK gets gipped on release dates, loved it, right up there with the best of the year.
This was one of the better Life Time movies I've seen.
Saw this film 2 days ago here in the UK on the big screen. It's a difficult watch and is certainly a hard film to recommend. For those thinking this film is far fetched... believe me, it is far from it and that ending is very realistic. In fact, that is the film's major strength - its ability to show the reality of how mental health can affect an entire family. Worth a watch at least once and i agree Mel grounds this film very nicely.
