Quote:
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a fictional story that offers a unique perspective on how prejudice, hatred and violence affect innocent people, particularly children, during wartime. Through the lens of an eight-year-old boy largely shielded from the reality of World War II, we witness a forbidden friendship that forms between Bruno, the son of a Nazi commandant, and Schmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Though the two are separated physically by a barbed wire fence, their lives become inescapably intertwined. The imagined story of Bruno and Shmuel sheds light on the brutality, senselessness and devastating consequences of war from an unusual point of view. Together, their tragic journey helps recall the millions of innocent victims of the Holocaust.

From Entertainment Weekly:
"As a Holocaust-for-kids fable, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an appalling, jaw-dropping movie that will cause serious nightmares."

Such a sweet film. But the ending is just brutal. I felt beat up walking out of the theater.
It looks like the boy in the pajamas could easily fit through the fence.

He could. But it's an electric fence.

I didn't get to see this when it came out, so will certainly be renting it. I have read the novel and know that I'll be crying by the end.
One of my favorite films of 2008. It left me so emotional that I couldn't even handle shopping after I saw the movie like I had planned. I'm not a sensitive girl, so I was shocked. The girl cleaning up the theater had the nerve to ask me "did you enjoy the movie?" with a smile on her face and she saw me walking down the stairs sniffleing and avoiding eye contact with people. The film itself looked just beautiful and was an easy movie to watch intently. I will definitely be buying this, but it's one of those movies that I couldn't be able to watch more than twice a year. Still, such a good movie and I told all my friends to see it. Which is rare because I usually only tell people about a certain movie if they like that type of movie or genre. But I just think everyone should see it.
