good movie
Well it comes highly recommended by me. My favourite horror title in years.
Out of interest, what does EXTM mean? Maple list it next to the 5.1 track.

No slipsleeve in the US? Hey! No fair...
Why is there an unrated cut and an original uncut version?
EDIT: Oh wait, never mind. I see what I mixed up now.

when did Maple pictures take over LionsGate? I never got that it's still LGF.

Maple Pictures is Lionsgate's Canadian distribution company.

Do you guys think a DTS 6.1 is needed for this type of film?
I don't think this movie made lots of $ in theatres but I definitely will need to check it out since there were lots of good reviews given toward this horror flick.
If they plan on double-dipping, then yeah I would say so... but highly doubt it because they are releasing an "Uncut" version as well
I'm sorry if I'm an idiot, but what is the difference between Original Uncut and Unrated Cut?
I love that unrated cover and Rue Morgue has said great things about this film.
What ending will the unrated cut have? I remember reading that there were two different endings.

Good movie until near the end when it became a joke.
According to IMDb, the original UK ending was altered for the US because it was too much of a downer. Apologies for SPOILERS...
Spoiler Apparently the US version ends when Sarah sees the ghost of a friend in the passenger seat of her car. The original UK ending then continued with an extra scene showing that her escape sequence was just a dream she had after falling unconscious, and that she is in fact as doomed as her friends.

Just to explain without the need of a spoiler... the US theatrical version does not include the last scene of the film (and may also be lacking other scenes). Without this last scene The Descent will appear more superficial than it is.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Mal - thanks for the spoiler blackout, apologies to anyone who read by accident. I think you're right, the US ending will appear to be weird and incomplete without the added coda, and yet the UK ending felt a bit of a copout too. It's such a cheap old trick, I was a little disappointed it was used here. Nevertheless, an excellent, very effective horror movie - had me gnawing on my beer bottle for most of its 90 minutes...
Finally some official news! I LOVED this movie, saw it in July at the Montreal Fantasia Festival and I don't know if I saw an unrated cut but this puppy was GORY! So I really don't know what gore they had to cut that warrants an 'unrated' edition!
So yeah this movie was awesome, the tension was insane and the gore was perfect! One of the best horror movies in years!
Don't know how I feel about those covers though, I think I like the theatrical cover a little bit more. But yeah they could have been way worse!
Can't wait to pick this up! :D

Great cover! This looked good, I've heard many good things, and will look forward to the original ending that wasn't butchered for the U.S. Will pick this up, and ramp up the speakers in the dark....
I don't get why the American market constantly needs alternates cuts, or maybe more to the point the American studios seem to think it does.
Why are so many releases still getting 4:3 versions too? All this helps is delaying people switching to Widescreen. The rest of the world gave up with dual WS & 4:3 releases a long time ago.
Full-screen is such an absurd nme.
"Picture in Picture Interactive"
That's clever when Sony have confirmed the BD hardware doesn't yet support this.

Trust me, surround sound on this is a definite must...
This is easily the best horror movie I have seen in years! Can't wait to get this! I'm also a little confused with "The Original Unrated Cut" and "The Original Uncut"... Great cover art though. Glad they went with it.

I'm sure it's possible. Blu-ray is a totally new product and its up to the companies that produce the authoring software (rather than Sony) to come up with new and imaginative ideas. Lionsgate use a start-up called Metabeam as their system.

One of my favorites of the year - I had such an adrenaline rush throughout - and nothing scares me these days but there were quite a few "jump out of my seat" moments in this...I'll buy.
preordering this the very second it's available to preorder.
further proves my point that 2006 is great year for mature horror movies. none of that PG-13, possesed japanese girl BS

Difficult to understand why people like this film. Have you ever heard of 6 sexy 20-something girls that like to go spelunking? Yeah, me neither. And then they get attacked by Keebler elves. Completely ridiculous. I was laughing at this stupid movie. Every horror cliche is present and accounted for by the way.

Hey LionsGate what happened to a DTS 6.1?
