Holy c**p in a hat-
What's this, a triple/quad dip?
I prefer my version with the faux skin.

i do like how the cover is one of the original posters, and it even has the crimples as if it used to be folded...but im happy with my "book of the dead" edition...i'm a huge sucker for extras but im just not a big enough fan to jump on this....maybe one day when its cheap or something.
but for the uber fans, this is pretty cool and amazingly its all new extras...who knew..lol

Why does only the widescreen get the diretor's commentary? The OAR on this movie is 1.37:1 for Christ's sake! Ugh!
I actually don't have the Evil Dead in my library (only Evil Dead 2) so I'll pick this up.
ill be getting this!
For the love of god, make it stop!!!!!
I'm not interested in any more Evil Dead Sooper-Dooper Deluxe Special Limited Anniversary Collectors Ad Nauseam Editions until they get "In the Woods" included as an extra. Then we'll talk.

Where is the short film Evil dead is based on "within the woods". With so many releases you think it would be on there by now.
How many times is Anchor Bay going to release the SAME DAMN TITLES over and over again ?!?!
Ok we know they own Hellraiser, Halloween and Evil Dead , plus Dawn and Day of the Dead..
How many releases do we need, how many more times are they going to milk this ?? I bet next year they do this for Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness !
Can this company actually release something NEW ?!?! There are many titles that they can get ahold of that were owned by defunct video companies like LIVE & Media Video as well as other horror movies
To name a few there is Four Flies on Grey Velvet, Galaxy of Terror, Night of the Creeps, Endless Descent, To Die For 1 & 2
If they are going to re-release something it should be Fade to Black - in its original full frame presentation. I own the Media VHS and the DVD - the DVD version is chopped off on the top and bottom..
Anchor Bay needs to sail in a different direction or pick another title to milk sheesh...

Does it really matter what DVD the commentary is on? The 4:3 version is being included so that should be enough.
The Widescreen print is director approved anyway or doesn't his opinion count?

Great, just when my friend sells me his single-disc for $5! Meh, maybe I'll buy it. Where's a new deluxe edition of Army of Darkness?
For three discs, these extra features are bunk. Where's the Within The Woods short? That's the only thing that matters.
sweet artwork.
FFS, don't they have any new titles?

I'll wait for the inevitable Blu-ray version.

Especially since it was initially promised fopr the Book of the Dead version and then dropped at the last minute.

I would love to have "Within the woods" but its not included so I won't have 3 editions of this movie. I have the book of the dead and elite editions so its enough!
nice.
The Evil Dead: OVERKILL EDITION!

Great cover but aren't there 20 edition of The Evil Dead already?
And just in time for Halloween! :D... :|
Should'nt this get an award for the most re-releases on DVD.
Whats next, Audio Commentary by the men who cleaned the set after the crew left edition ????
Overkill edition indeed...
Overkill edition indeed...
I don't own the film on DVD, so I might just get this one. Now the big question is when will Evil Dead 4 get made since the remake is history.
Where is the director's cut?

No. It does not. Not when he's THIS wrong.
The widescreen print is terrible.
The entire frame is cramped, lots of information is snipped off the screen (including some FX work including the shot of the demon biting off it's own hand which now loses the final frames of the scene as they vanish off the bottom and various body parts) and the skin colour is all wrong.
Raimi stopped being a real personal film maker and turned into a suit for hire a long while back. And his view on "Evil Dead" is mute anyway seeing as he was quite happy to pimp it out to some low life John to re-make up the arse.
The fans made "The Evil Dead", and quite frankly the fans now own it. Raimi has written himself out of the picture.

Wow, Rancor Bay are releasing Evil Dead again? It must be at least a year since the last one.
Back in the early days of DVD I used to support AB. Now, I find it makes me sick to even look at their DVDs in my collection.

I'll stick with my Elite Entertainment 4:3 DVD...

Quote: BURBANK, CA – Just when you thought you’d seen it all in /The Evil
Dead, /Anchor Bay Entertainment will commemorate the film’s 25th
anniversary with the all-new, three-disc /THE EVIL DEAD ULTIMATE

EDITION/ will be released under the prestigious “Anchor Bay
Collection” brand, which has previously released comprehensive DVD
editions of such horror classics as /Re-Animator, Phantasm/ and
/Hellraiser./
Over the years, Anchor Bay Entertainment has released numerous
special editions of /THE EVIL DEAD/, each one more dynamic and
diabolical than the one that preceded it, in an effort to continually
satiate and satisfy the ravenous hunger of the film’s worldwide legion
of fans. /THE EVIL DEAD ULTIMATE EDITION/ tops -- and buries -- them
all! Celebrate the original Sam Raimi masterpiece with two versions of
the movie (for years, fans have demanded the release of the original
full-frame version), six new featurettes that revisit the film’s cast,
crew, biggest fans and enduring legacy, plus never-before-seen
production footage, outtakes and deleted scenes, reconstructed and
restored specifically for this edition! That’s enough to fill several
Necronomicons!
Upon its release in 1982, /THE EVIL DEAD /was immediately hailed as
a new horror classic. Best-selling author Stephen King called the film
“the most ferociously original horror film of the year.” In the
ensuing quarter of a century, /THE EVIL DEAD /is one of the most
influential, landmark horror films of all time.
The film launched the careers of writer/director Sam Raimi (the
/Spider-Man /trilogy, /Darkman, The Quick and the Dead/), producer
Robert Tapert (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” /The Grudge/, the /Spider-Man
/trilogy) and executive producer/leading man Bruce Campbell (/Bubba
Ho-Tep, Sky High, Man With the Screaming Brain/).
Five college friends, including Ash (Campbell) drive to a remote
cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. Little do they realize that
their fun will soon turn to fear, as an unstoppable supernatural force
has been unleashed and surrounds the woods around them. One by one,
they fall victim to the demonic forces at large, resurrected as
murderous demons which can only be destroyed by dismemberment. Easier
said than done. Soon, only Ash is left to combat the evil before it
consumes the world. It’ll be a fight to the death … and to the
/un/death.
The film’s mammoth success has thus far inspired two equally
popular sequels, /Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn /and /Army of Darkness/,
as well as a series of popular video games with rumors of an upcoming
remake produced by Raimi and Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures.
/The Evil Dead /also stars Ellen Sandweiss (/Satan’s Playground/,
Brutal Massacre: A Comedy, the upcoming /The Dread/), Betsy Baker (the
upcoming /Witches’ Night/) and Sarah York (the upcoming /Brutal
Massacre: A Comedy/).
