Isn't it past your bedtime? Because with that ridiculous analogy you have to be like 12.
Oh, I'm sorry... Shall I explain to you what "analogy" actually means? *sighs*
Now be a good bint and go and watch the c**ppy Saw films!!
Dumbed down, and filmed like an MTV movie, especially for all you brainless morons of today's ADD generation.
Far more stupid then the Evil Dead films ever will be.
"And the graphics were hella bad and stupid"
That's got to be the most pathetic, laughable, uneducated, childish remark regarding this film that I have ever read.
Your opinion on this occasion, and every occasion I've concluded is not worth a damn thing.

I already have The Book of The Dead edition but I don't care I am still getting this.
Nah - if I upgrade from my book of the dead edition it will be for a HD cleaned up print....
I'll get this for the fullscreen version and the extras.
Too bad the disc in my BotD will be rendered worthless, though.

On the contrary, there are several titles with both formats included on a single disc (and none of the titles that I've seen were kid's fare). Some of them have the widescreen version on one side, and full-frame on the other; other discs have both on the same side and the viewer chooses the format via a menu screen.
...and another thing, you guys realize that eventually they'll also release HD versions of the series, right?
I think Anchor Bay is just getting warmed up...

You know what, Anchor Bay?
No. Never again. Least of all from you.
Too expensive for my liking. But good movie.

Not really. I had it and sold it about a day after due to the dreadful transfer.
Any real fan (whatever that is) would have the full screen version first and foremost.
And 'real' fan would not want cramped framing and missing gore and FX.

This is just getting sader. If I think my dvd shelf could hold anymore Evil Dead releases I would get it, but looking at it I would have to take a pass on this one
What's with the lame artwork? And Evil Dead 2 should be getting a 3-disc, it's far superior.
Never trust IMDB, they get lots of things wrong. They're about as reliable as Wikipedia.
Pardon me. I totally missed that BOTH widescreen AND full-screen were included here. I thought you had to make a choice, hence my original post. I'm stupid. lol
Chris Johnson wrote: It was shot in 1.37:1 and then matted to 1.85:1 so it could be shown in theaters.
Not true. First off, plenty of movies are shot open matte and then matted down to 1.85:1 for theatrical presentation. Also, if this is done, the theatrical presentation is still always considered the OAR. This was not the case, however, with "The Evil Dead". It was shot 1.37:1 and presented at 1.37:1. It was always intended to be shown at this ratio. The 1.85:1 ratio was only introduced recently and, while I'm sure effort has been put into the framing on Raimi's part...and it may even have his approval...it does not constitute OAR and never will. Hence the "O" in OAR. Same thing with "Apocalypse Now". Am I to remain content with a 2.0:1 presentation because the cinematographer has decided it's a good compromise betwen the OAR of 2.35:1 and current widescreen displays? He shot the movie, after all. Well, when you compare the shots from the included trailer to the scenes from the actual film, well...you'll see why I'm not happy with that decision, either. I'm just glad they're giving you an option on this release. Two questions, though, if you still think this is supposed to be widescreen: what other release can you think of - other than a kid's film - where you get separate WS and FF transfers on two separate discs of the film in a single package? There's a reason for this. Also, no mention anywhere on IMDB regarding a 1.85:1 ratio...not anywhere. Because 1.85:1 is NOT the OAR.

137 or 185......is that how many times this DVD has been released ?
Whats next - audio commentary by the Janitor edition ..the boomstick 2 edition , the evil dead lunchbox edition , the ultimate infinite edition with all 3 Evil Dead movies with each & every version in a 12 disc edition
I really hate re-re-re-releases that have been done to death

Wow, Rancor Bay are releasing Evil Dead again? It must be at least a year since the last one.
Back in the early days of DVD I used to support AB. Now, I find it makes me sick to even look at their DVDs in my collection.

No. It does not. Not when he's THIS wrong.
The widescreen print is terrible.
The entire frame is cramped, lots of information is snipped off the screen (including some FX work including the shot of the demon biting off it's own hand which now loses the final frames of the scene as they vanish off the bottom and various body parts) and the skin colour is all wrong.
Raimi stopped being a real personal film maker and turned into a suit for hire a long while back. And his view on "Evil Dead" is mute anyway seeing as he was quite happy to pimp it out to some low life John to re-make up the arse.
The fans made "The Evil Dead", and quite frankly the fans now own it. Raimi has written himself out of the picture.

Where is the director's cut?
I don't own the film on DVD, so I might just get this one. Now the big question is when will Evil Dead 4 get made since the remake is history.
Whats next, Audio Commentary by the men who cleaned the set after the crew left edition ????
Overkill edition indeed...

Should'nt this get an award for the most re-releases on DVD.
And just in time for Halloween! :D... :|
Great cover but aren't there 20 edition of The Evil Dead already?
The Evil Dead: OVERKILL EDITION!

nice.
I would love to have "Within the woods" but its not included so I won't have 3 editions of this movie. I have the book of the dead and elite editions so its enough!
I'll wait for the inevitable Blu-ray version.
mlcm wrote: For three discs, these extra features are bunk. Where's the Within The Woods short? That's the only thing that matters.
Especially since it was initially promised fopr the Book of the Dead version and then dropped at the last minute.

Great, just when my friend sells me his single-disc for $5! Meh, maybe I'll buy it. Where's a new deluxe edition of Army of Darkness?

Does it really matter what DVD the commentary is on? The 4:3 version is being included so that should be enough.

I got the book of the dead release so I might upgrade
I'll be getting this that's for sure!!!!
How many times is Anchor Bay going to release the SAME DAMN TITLES over and over again ?!?!
Ok we know they own Hellraiser, Halloween and Evil Dead , plus Dawn and Day of the Dead..
How many releases do we need, how many more times are they going to milk this ?? I bet next year they do this for Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness !
Can this company actually release something NEW ?!?! There are many titles that they can get ahold of that were owned by defunct video companies like LIVE & Media Video as well as other horror movies
To name a few there is Four Flies on Grey Velvet, Galaxy of Terror, Night of the Creeps, Endless Descent, To Die For 1 & 2
If they are going to re-release something it should be Fade to Black - in its original full frame presentation. I own the Media VHS and the DVD - the DVD version is chopped off on the top and bottom..
Anchor Bay needs to sail in a different direction or pick another title to milk sheesh...

Where is the short film Evil dead is based on "within the woods". With so many releases you think it would be on there by now.
For the love of god, make it stop!!!!!
I'm not interested in any more Evil Dead Sooper-Dooper Deluxe Special Limited Anniversary Collectors Ad Nauseam Editions until they get "In the Woods" included as an extra. Then we'll talk.

I actually don't have the Evil Dead in my library (only Evil Dead 2) so I'll pick this up.
Why does only the widescreen get the diretor's commentary? The OAR on this movie is 1.37:1 for Christ's sake! Ugh!
i do like how the cover is one of the original posters, and it even has the crimples as if it used to be folded...but im happy with my "book of the dead" edition...i'm a huge sucker for extras but im just not a big enough fan to jump on this....maybe one day when its cheap or something.
but for the uber fans, this is pretty cool and amazingly its all new extras...who knew..lol

editions of such horror classics as /Re-Animator, Phantasm/ and
/Hellraiser./
Over the years, Anchor Bay Entertainment has released numerous
special editions of /THE EVIL DEAD/, each one more dynamic and
diabolical than the one that preceded it, in an effort to continually
satiate and satisfy the ravenous hunger of the film’s worldwide legion
of fans. /THE EVIL DEAD ULTIMATE EDITION/ tops -- and buries -- them
all! Celebrate the original Sam Raimi masterpiece with two versions of
the movie (for years, fans have demanded the release of the original

influential, landmark horror films of all time.
The film launched the careers of writer/director Sam Raimi (the

Five college friends, including Ash (Campbell) drive to a remote
cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. Little do they realize that
their fun will soon turn to fear, as an unstoppable supernatural force
has been unleashed and surrounds the woods around them. One by one,
they fall victim to the demonic forces at large, resurrected as
murderous demons which can only be destroyed by dismemberment. Easier
said than done. Soon, only Ash is left to combat the evil before it
consumes the world. It’ll be a fight to the death … and to the
/un/death.
The film’s mammoth success has thus far inspired two equally
popular sequels, /Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn /and /Army of Darkness/,
as well as a series of popular video games with rumors of an upcoming
remake produced by Raimi and Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures.
/The Evil Dead /also stars Ellen Sandweiss (/Satan’s Playground/,
