Completely agree. I try to block out the fact that the movie was ever made...

Yeah, personally, I think III is extremely underrated. The classic the first two films were? Hardly. But then, saying a film doesn't stand up to The Godfather and The Godfather Part II isn't exactly a damning statement. And as for Sophia Coppola's amateurish acting ruining the film, I try to keep in mind that her character was inherently amateurish and immature to begin with, so in a way, it fit the role as well as could be reasonably expected. Personally, I've always enjoyed all three films, and I can't imagine watching Part I and Part II and not having the cap to Michael's life at the end of Part III (the use of music in the last scenes is just phenomenal, as is Pacino's acting in the last 15 minutes or so of the film. Just great stuff if you ask me, but then I didn't go into this film expecting it to be the genius of cinema that the first two are.

Terrible? I think you're a bit extreme here...Although I think I can say I was somewhat fortunate enough to see no.3 first and then 1&2...

Since blu-ray is the only hi-def disc option anymore, do they need to keep that blue bar across the top of all their packaging? I mean, I get why they did it to distinguish themselves from HDDVD, but come on. That unnecessary blue bar distracts from an otherwise beautiful cover art.
I bought this in 2001 and I will buy the blu-ray when blu-players become cheaper and the technology improves.
the artwork for the dvd titles in their separate cases look exactly like the ones I got in 2001 with a different color but I assume these cases will come in plastic unlike the 2001 version where the separate cases were made out of cardboard.

Glad they dropped the 'amazing' from: Includes All Three Amazing Films
It was utterly ridiculous

please don't beat me!
as much as i don't like the godfather movies. i know , i know. please don't hurt me. i see why people like it and why its a classic. just not my cup of tea. but i really can't wait till this comes out on blu ray. when i first watched the series on dvd, i thought the tranfers was one of the worst i have ever seen in my short 18 year life. you look at what they did with blade runner and 2001. it just gonna blow me away if they can make this look as good. this will be one of the sets that sells blu ray. if the picture quality is decent, not only will avid blu ray fans be disappointed but the common person that buys blu ray to watch this movie cause further keep the low blu ray sales. if this and star wars come out with lackluster transfers blu ray might be done

Posted by someone who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. You do realise that 35mm film has a resolution much greater than 1080p, don't you? Older films will look better on Blu-ray regardless of whether they've been restored simply by virtue of the extra resolution. If they have been restored they'll look even better. Stop spreading unfounded rumours.

I will purcahse the DVDs separately, I don't want The Godfather part 3 in my collection. Terrible movie
I really want the set as I loved all three movies (I first watched them back to back, so I didn't have the same experience as most others). But really don't feel like shelling out $80 for the set, or at worst the $50 it will actually be at Best Buy, so I'll probably stick with the first film.
It looks like I found my early Christmas present. I've been dying to own "The Godfather" films on DVD for a long time but I couldn't afford the box set and I found the separate releases a little too standard (as in hardly no features). This must be the set I've waited to buy.
I've also given up on the possibility of a release of "The Godfather Trilogy (1901-1980)" as, again, I'm apparently the only person on the planet who liked that presentation of the films. I'm all for the theatrical versions, don't get me wrong, and I totally agree with most people that "Part II" works best BY ITSELF with the present day / flashback parallel structure intact to contrast the life of father and son. I get all that. But as a cumulative EXPERIENCE, well...let's just say that the entire saga told in a linear way with an HOUR of footage added in is in offer I can't refuse. Sadly, the best version of this is the atrocious-looking full-frame laserdisc edition, which I do have. I actually made my own version with the latest boxed set and reincorporated the footage myself from the deleted scenes section (which contained *almost* everything from the box set version), but an official release would be amazing...but again, guess that'll never happen.

I know I'm in the VAST minority in actually liking Part III, but I wish they'd restored that one as well, if only for consistency in the set. It looks weird to see "The Coppola Restoration" title on the first two but not the third.
if Weird Science can look so amazing in HD, i dont see why older movies that are considered classics wouldnt get the same treatment. lol
Blu-ray artwork added
I'll definitely be getting the Blu-Ray.
Now, all I need is a Blu-Ray player.
And an HDTV.
Damn it.

That's a misconception - Doesn't matter if the film is from the 70's or the 80's - depending on the way it was shot and thus when done properly on HD it can have significant improvements compare to SD DVD
There has already been many example of old films on Blu-Ray and HD DVD that has demonstrated a much superior PQ than SD DVD, i.e. Casablanca, Blade Runner, Bonnie & Clyde, Patton etc.
Here is Xylon's comparison of Patton BD vs SD
"Despicable" Patton comparison *PIX*
It's very clear here that the PQ on BD is far more superior than SD and this film was from the early 70's. So I see no reason why The Godfather could not look great on BD.

I already have the trilogy on DVD, so I'll not buyit after all, thought it look fantastic from the outside, and I'm pretty sure that it will look fantastic from the inside too.
Due to that stellar artwork... I may just have to ditch my VHS copies for this
Glad I waited all this time before pulling the trigger....
Fantastic!

An offer you can't refuse on Blu-ray! For me, The Godfather Blu-ray set is a definite day 1 purchase on all counts!!
Still don't have a blu-ray player but I'll be getting this on DVD anyway cause they're just great classics and to see them restored will be great. I'll probably triple dip on this when I eventually get a blu-ray player anyway lol.
I have the new RC2 box set and "The Godfather, Part 2" is now on only one disc. Unfortunately the compression suffers from this.
considering the space blu-ray offers...will this be the first time where all 3 movies are available as they were meant, as one movie and not split in half?
boo
I didn't get the last release so i'm going to get this
Ahh, an offer no one can refuse. I was hoping for the Trilogy all edited together like they did for VHS..oh well, this will due.
$120?! Pffft! You gotta be kidding me! Hopefully there will be a substanial discount on the release day. I am NOT paying over $70-$80 for this, no matter how much I enjoy these films! I got an idea... how about you keep Godfather III and I'll give you $50?
Don Corleone: I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.
Peter Clemenza: Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

i just bought the original release set.
ah.
oh well.
im a sucker for double dipping.

Blu for me too, but that MSRP Ouch! Should go for about $80 for 3 films. I'll wait for a sale, but this is a big announcement and should sell some blu-ray players.
I was planning on getting the Godfather DVD Collection, but I'm glad I didn't. The fact this contains restored films, all the special features from the prior release, plus another bonus disc of new special features makes it a definite pick-up for me.
Blu for me!
just bought the DVD edition...the picture and sound realy does impress...
NICE!!! I don't own any of these movies yet, so HOORAY!
And that art is AWESOME. Simple, but powerful.

Fantastic News! The BD Release can be the best release for the decade, simply can't wait!
Great news! This was one anticipated Blu-ray title that needed a release.
I dont really like that tagline they've provided on the cover: "Includes all three (amazing) films"
They are really over doing it.

Been waiting for this, can't wait to get the BRD set and I'm glad the release isn't too far off.
Ugh, as usual, cue the Godfather III bashing I guess...

Hmm....I might buy that on Blu-ray. I own the previous collection, but I don't know if I feel like upgrading at the moment. Very cool that they're getting it out though.
FINALLY!!! One of the greatest trilogies of all-time on Blu. I cannot wait to pick this set up.
Well I guesse I will have to double dip. I own the previous set and will gladly buy the Blu-Ray set.
