I thought Ewan McGregor was in this movie? Who the hell is that guy on the box cover?
Don't think i'll be getting it. although i saw the moive twice at the theater. It's simple too packed with ads and shit, and that cover just looks awful.
I'll be waiting for the special edition which you know will come out.
Looks pretty bare bones on the features. I'm sure they will see how this does on the initial sales and rental market before they decide if it warrants a 2 disc release in the future. I like the movie but a rental for me until they release a double disc in the future.
Double Dip

I'm interested to check this out, but it's one of those where I can wait maybe half a year and wait it out to see if they do a SE. I'm sure one of my friends'll buy it, I'll just borrow it from them...

I will rent it
I'm interested in seeing this movie, I don't care if it flopped that doesn't mean anything I want to see it for myself so I will rent it.
Talking about crap movies making so much money, one has to think in Fantastic Four, to me one of the worst movies of the year.

DVD cover
The DVD cover looks cool.
Michael Bay
Some of his movies weren't bad. Most of them are just popcorn fodder, meant to take you on exciting rides. "Armageddon" was one such flick. But the first "Bad Boys" and "The Rock" were terrific, terrific action movies. Fun rides, great interplay between characters, and the screenplays weren't all that bad.
But the rest of the movies he's directed? I must say that i enjoyed "Pearl Harbor" almost as much as i liked stubbing my toenail to the point where it bled profusely.
"Bad Boys II" was just loud and ripped off WAY too many movies, especially a great scene from Jackie Chan's "Police Story". Also, the ease and friendship that was so readily amusing between Smith and Lawrence in the first one was completely GONE. It was replaced by one constantly trying to outdo the other. Couldn't stand it.
I'll give this disc a try on my system -- one positive thing about Bay's discs is that they are always clean, well-produced, flashy, and they sound AWESOME.
(We'll forgive Criterion for not making "Armageddon" anamorphic. Or maybe not.)

I'll probably buy the 2 disk whenever it comes out.
i saw this movie and it rocked! I dunno why people didnt like it! Very fun popcorn flick.

Sorry Clay, Bay is indeed directing "Transformers". Was hoping for Zemeckis directing, not Bay.

crappy art work
I'm kinda disappointed with the artwork, but I guess it'll have to do. Hope they at least revise it.

I didn't catch it in the theater
In fact, i've only seen A History of Violence last week in the theater. I plan to see Capote, Good Night, and Good Luck, Memiors of a Geisha, Elizabethtown, and many others. I'm not a fan of action films, Michael Bay has butchered numerous films with his hyper active mtv directing, i heard this was his strongest effort but dropped a little towards the end. I will definitely buy it though, i have a soft spot for Scarlett and it'll go good on my families surround sound on christmas!

OK artwork but when will the double dip appear?

the artworks not as bad as i thought it would be, but, like just about everyone else, would prefer the final poster art, which was awesome!
this was a really entertaining film.
Only good movie Bay ever made was "The Rock". Then it's a career of junk topped with crap.
Is this even worth wasting a christmas present on? No. I'll pass.

Even if it was a 3-disc, deluxe set, with a free ticket to The Island 2: Electric Boogaloo it still wouldn't be included because such scenes were never filmed. She WANTED to get nude, but Bay denied her the opportunity because he wanted to keep his film as less-risqué as possible, meaning he wanted it to be the good ol' PG-13 that he's targetted with practically every film of his.
I like the "I, Robot" comparison for the reasons given above, but also because they both had an endless supply of shameless product placement in each of their films. Utter crap; so disappointed.

The features (or should I say, lack of) suck and the cover's even worse.
It shoulda been a 2-disc with DTS, more features, and the theatrical one-sheet for the DVD art.

Nice cover art...
OH MAN!
For perhaps. a half a second the audience may believe that this film has "substance"...but thats a half a second before everything starts blowing up and cliches are passed out like cheese in wiscousin...this movie was awful. I'd pay $29.99 even for a bare bones if it were for this one. Despite its poor box office performance, I thought that The Island was one of the best films released in the summer season. It wasn't at Minority Report's level, but I really wasn't expecting it to be. It really is a good movie and its a great way to see a double-feature. Anyone who has seen the movie knows kinda what I mean.
Wasted Potential
This idea had some potential...but just like "I, Robot" it was turned into little more than another mindless action flick. I wont even bother renting it.
$ 29.99? A little pricy for an almost bare-bones release
Extremely ugly artwork.
I thought the movie was great. But I hate the cover art though. They could at least do something more original. Hope it changes.
I may be in them minority but I like the cover art. It's not great but it's an improvement. I said to myself, as long as it doesn't have the final poster as the artwork I might buy it. Fortunately it doesn't. The final poster was ugly as hell.
I dislike the cover but damn that is a nice car.
crappy art work, they should go with the poster....
Just because the movie was a flop doesn't mean the artwork has to be as well. They should have just gone with the final poster. It would have worked so much better.
I haven't seen this movie but since I am really interested in it i might just blind buy it. The coverart is ok but i have no idea why they would change the awesome title art to this ugly font. Hope that changes.
not that bad of a cover! I thought this would have a bad one but I guess not!
I have no opinion of the cover. I hate the floating heads but I love the helicoptor chasing the cars.
That is such a bland cover, well at least it goes with the film.
Eh? I Thought it was OK, nothing great. I'd buy it if they released it as a proper 2-disc with those rumored cut Scarlet nudey scenes. :D
what does the price-tag say?
NOOOO! Disappointed with the artwork, thank God it's only early artowrk because it better change
Early artwork added...

I like quite a few Michael Bay movies but "The Rock" is easily one of his worst. A crap story with crap acting and crap action - I have no idea why so many people rate it so highly.
So if you think The Rock is crap, yet you claim to *like* quite a few of his movies, which ones do you think are good? Please say Armageddon and Pearl Harbor so I can flame you.

I did not see this movie at the theaters. It does not appeal to me at this time, however, I may watch it when it is on satellite tv and change my view.
It's so obvious that they're releasing this bare-bones edition, hoping that there will be the rush to buy it for Christmas.
Oh well... I guess I'll have to wait a few more months for the extra feature-loaded edition which will no doubt appear early or mid-2006.

Loved this film. Can't believe I have to label it underrated. I will definitely be picking it up. Hope they use the final poster art.
I'll watch it even though I hear the second half of the movie is a disappointment.
Of course this'll be double dipped.
Ah man. Just a single-disc release? Hopefully there will be a double dip and I'll wait for that. If not I'll get this when it goes cheap. Really enjoyed the movie.
YES!
will probally buy the day it comes out i havent seen it. i was dying to see it but no one would take me
this movie was so awesome ... i just wish that WB was releasing it, since they seem to be big on the single-disc and double-disc releases. however, i'm not surprised that it'll be barebones. oh well. i'm scared for the artwork ... definantly won't be the poster art (
) so, it'll probably be some crap photoshoped together and giving away (more) major plot points.
Micheal Bay is so awesome.
Is this Dreamworks or Universal. Cause even thought they are part of the same company they are different Production companies. But the guys who made THE ISLAND teamed up with Dreamworks and Warner Bros. not Universal. So this is just confusing. Cause I at least thought that we would see a 2-Disc Edition by either studio. Dreamworks and Warner Bros usually do release wide and fullscreen single-dic editions and a 2-Disc edition (ie WAR OF THE WORLDS for Dreamworks and BATMAN BEGINS for Warner Bros.). So its surprising that Dreamworks is only releasing a widescreen only single-disc. Regardless I will still be asking for it for Christmas...
I'm a fan of the 'Bay', but this and The Rock both suck big hairy monkey balls !

I can't believe this tanked, while crap like War of the Worlds made huge money. I guess if Cruise took a dump for 3 hours and Spielberg directed it, people would run to the theatre to see it.
good call my friend, i don't think this movie was to amazing or anything but IMO it was alot better than War of the Worlds (2nd most over rated movie of the year, 1st being Mysterious Skin) Never the less i'll wait out for the Special edition.
The island IMO was a very entertaining movie, i would give it a solid 7/10, there was alot of good things working for the movie, good cast, well paced action, and alot of cool concepts.
Though i feel i must correct some, people seem to be calling this movie a bomb, so i did a little background check and found out that the movie had a budget of $126,000,000.
Domesticaly it brought in $35,818,913, and Overseas it did $123,100,000, now combine those 2 numbers and it comes in to a World wide total of $158,918,913. It hasen't even came to dvd yet, when its all said and done the movie will have made alot of profit.

I really enjoyed the movie, the f/x were pretty awesome
Where the hell's the DTS?!?!?!?!?!?!
The film looks pretty poor, but I guess I'll check it out.
It was definitely Bay's best movie since "The Rock," but it still had a lot of problems.
This movie was one of my faves of this year - it was amazing full stop. Can't wait for this.
a bomb doesnt neccesarily mean it wasnt a good movie.
I thought it was awesome.
definitely will be buying it or ask for it for christmas.

The only movie I found entertaining from Michael Bay was Bad Boys 2. The movie was horrible but that one particular car chase scene was all that it had going for it. Otherwise, the rest of the movie is, like all his movies, lackluster!
I won't be buying renting or wipe my arse with this film, not only was it a flop, but the producer didn't have the bollocks to take on half the blame, or try and blag it saying it was really an entertaining movie.
All that twat did was blame the two main actors saying they were the reason the film didn't do so well.

I'll pick this one up as well. As far as mindless blockbusters go, this move could have done a lot worse.
I like Mr.Bays work, I think he can do action really well. I never got to see this movie, so I'll give it a rent.
With DVD's hitting the store so soon after movies are released into the theater, what's the point of even going to the movies anymore? Hell, Studios make over 80% of a movies profit from DVD sales anyway.

hehehe...yeah I read about that. Apparently some sequences are ripped-off shot for shot.
I'll give this a rent maybe though. Scarlett Johansson looks hot and who doesn't love to watch Ewan McGregor act.
Purchasers be aware, there is a double-dip likely in early 2006.

Not interested in a blind-buy or a rental. With this flop on his resume, Michael Bay might wise up and never go behind a camera lens again (he's only made one real good movie, "The Rock" ).
that movie blew...they can't afford to double-dip. then again, they're releasing a two-disk elektra, so anything's possible.
This was an entertaining enough movie with a quick pace and some nice action sequences; I'm kind of at a loss as well as to why it didn't do well at the summer box office seeing as far worse summer films have made much more money.
Have seen both a 1-disk and a 2-disk set listed at Region 2 retailers, so looks like they're planning a double dip for Region 1 by holding back the 2-disk set.
I actually enjoyed it , It'll be on my christmas list for sure .
THE ISLAND (2005)
I liked this movie. It was very uneven but it worked. Shocked to see how little money it made. Disspointed that the DVD is only a single-disc release but thats what we should expect with a bomb like this. Will ask for it for x-mas.
The movie was a big flop. I might rent it one day.
I'll be buying it. I thought the movie was highly entertaining. Probably Bay's best movie since The Rock.
This looks like a very lackluster movie. I really have no interest in seeing it.
an ideal commentary
Have Michael Bay, Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, the producers and the head of marketing for Warners and Dreamworks in a room with a mike playing the blame game for 140 minutes. That would be really entertaining!
Poor movie.
Looks like Universal are cutting its losses with this release and not exactly pushing the boat out shall we say !
