Quote: 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

I was very skeptical, but it surprisingly won me over. I really liked the relationship between Chan and Smith - very touching. Best American movie Chan has done possibly ever. Well, except maybe for Cannonball Run!
just for this i will NEVER buy it

"I'm still miffed they called it "Karate Kid" when Jackie Chan teaches him kung fu."
I agree. They actually call it "Kung Fu Kid" in Japan and China. I think it was the only way that Americans could really understand it and to build up publicity for the film. They considered it a "remake" after all.

I haven't seen alot of movies this summer in the theatres, but this was by far one of my favorites. Jaden Smith was actually quite along with Jackie. I also enjoyed Taraji Henson as Jaden's Mom. I will eventually pick this up, but not right away.
And I agree it's stupid for those who bash this movie without even seeing it. I was really skeptical when it was originally announced, but it really surprised me how entertaining it was.

Horrible cover art! The same as the Australian posters I see on bus stops, public places. They can do better. Don't particularly like the color used either!

Then laugh it up with every post in the articles for Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg's movies.

Perfect remake except for the title. Definitely should have been called The Kung Fu Kid. Great cover art.
Shockingly, it's quite good.

This is apparently because it's "a direct reference to the bullies calling him the "Karate Kid" when he takes up a stance at the beginning of the fight." - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1155076/goofs
Which was just a quick fix the screenwriters threw in there so they could keep the title. Everywhere else in the world the film got released properly as "The Kung Fu Kid."

So you don't embrace any remakes, do you? Remakes aren't supposed to have the original actors.
I've gotten over the fact that all my favorite classic movies have been or will be remade. The Karate Kid, I actually thought would be really nice to be remade because the original is very dated. However, the trailer to this just looks like they did it wrong.

Not picking up this s**t. Heap of c**p on Dvd and Blu-Ray.
Piss on this c**p. I'll take ANY of the other "karate" movies over this any day. Also who the hell said this had to be well over 2 hours? NOT neccessary. This is the worst kind of remake, one that makes u miss the original so much. U just cant beat that 80s cheese factor of the first films and the sequels were fun too.
I like the cover art!
Anyways I am pretty disappointed I never saw this in theatres but at least I only have about 2 months before I can see it on video.
I haven't read much about this movie and I forget the originals since I haven't seen the original, 3 & 4 since I was probably 10 and the second one when I was 15 but I hear it's a 'reboot' (Hollywood's fancy new word). I wish it was more like a 5th Karate Kid movie set in the same universe but updated. Yeah that would have been awesome.

this was a pretty damn big hit, i'm shocked at the lame and low amount of extras.

that explains why Part 4 was called The Next Karate Kid, there was no Ralph.

I'll take my chances.
no
I'm still miffed they called it "Karate Kid" when Jackie Chan teaches him kung fu.
Too bad. No DVD/Blu-Ray Combo. That's what I was hoping for.
The third best movie I've seen all this year, behind "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Toy Story 3." It was a blast seeing it in theaters because the audience was really into it. 9/10
Pretty good, but I can wait.
never nothing but horrendous things. pass
Sold! I LOVED this movie.
