As bland, mediocre, and forgettable as movies come.
You know. I heard this film was pretty darn good.
Though I'm yet to read the book, I however, quite loved this film and I'm so glad that they used the original artwork for the dvd too! Can't wait!
This was very solid film all around. It may not be great, but it tells its story well and it's quite moving. Also, the kite flying sequences were very beautiful, as well as the film's score. I really like the coverart, although I wish there were more in the way of extras. I may end up buying it eventually.
The movie is a pale imitation of the wonderful book.
It is good if you haven't read the book. The Kite Runner is often a fascinating character study. There have been many great movies about kids making bad decisions (Atonement) and The Kite Runner struggles to hold up after over 2 hours. It never reaches its full potential but Marc Forster is a director to watch. His movies are all so different. Unlike his others The Kite Runner isn't satisfying. This could be because of the choices in events from the book chosen to be in the film. It could also be because of the convenient ending.
But if you are sick of big budget bores, The Kite Runner is thought provoking and told in a way so the dark subjects aren't annoying like in Crash.

I heard marvelous things about this little title. It puts out a big name when it comes from the director of Finding Neverland.

It really was nothing special, very forgettable.
Heard this was pretty good, but I wouldn't buy it on HD DVD. Honestly, I perfer Blu-rays over HD DVDs.

But I do agree that the book is always better - Stephen King movies are a great example of this.

Dang, never realized this was a Forster movie. I caught over 150 movies in '07 at the theatre and somehow I missed this one all together. As a huge fan of Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction, and (yes even) STAY, I will be checking this out on HD for sure.
i liked this movie a lot... it was long, but it was worth the watch... i loved the story and it was so deep...

Quote: Amir is a young Afghani from a well-to-do Kabul family; his best friend Hassan is the son of a family servant. Together the two boys form a bond of friendship that breaks tragically on one fateful day, when Amir fails to save his friend from brutal neighborhood bullies. Amir and Hassan become separated, and as first the Soviets and then the Taliban seize control of Afghanistan, Amir and his father escape to the United States to pursue a new life. Years later, Amir – now an accomplished author living in San Francisco – is called back to Kabul to right the wrongs he and his father committed years ago.
