In the midst of a bloody battle between British, the French and Native American allies, Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe, Twelve Monkeys, We Were Soldiers), the aristocratic daughter of a British Colonel and her party are captured by a group of Huron warriors. Fortunately, a group of three Mohican trappers, including Hawkeye (Day-Lewis), a rugged frontiersman and the adopted son of the Mohicans comes to their rescue. DVDEmpire.com also lists a DVD version for release on this same date with the same cover art. So, I might just have to wait one month before picking up this film. I keep failing to watch this film, and I have it on VHS in widescreen from a TV broadcast. So, I'm glad there's a new edition coming with commentary. Now, we just need Thief digitally remastered and restored along with the special edition of The Insider. I, currently, consider that to be Mann's best film while Manhunter is my favorite.

Amen to that. Fantastic movie. Also wouldn't mind a Thief blu-ray.
Amen to both. Thief and The Insider are both outstanding.

One of my favorites. I hope the Definitive Cut is just a tidier version of the current DVD cut. I like that one, with the exception of the wierd edit surrounding Magua's death at the end. I remember it was pretty wicked in VHS, but the DVD just does a wierd double-take where you don't see the bloodiness. Not that I'm hankering for the gore, but that the edit is just "off" the way it is on the DVD.
Nice. Looking forward to the Mann commentary.
Fox USA already released Director's Cut on DVD. I wonder why Mann now feels it's no longer his Director's Cut and wants to release a Final Cut.
As Fox own the DC rights, Warner Brothers released the Theatrical Cut in Europe (not available in North America). Whilst I prefer the DC overall, some very good scenes from the Theatrical Cut were removed. Hopefully they're now back.

I've been waiting for this film for sometime. Amazing movie. The soundtrack is one of the best. Love the conclusion. I need to buy a tomahawk. SOLD! Now I just need a Blu Ray Player.
Thief needs to be on Blu-ray if only because the DVD has one of the worst transfers I've ever seen on the format. It would be nice if someone could finally put The Keep on disc as well.

Any word on how long this new cut is?
