Warner Home Video has announced The Legend of the Shadowless Sword which stars Lee Seo Jin, Yoon Soy, and Shin Hyun-Joon. This new action-adventure will be available to own from the 12th August, and should retail at around $19.97. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with a Korean Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. English subtitles will also be provided. Extras will include Character Introduction (The Villain, The Companion, The King), in-depth interviews with the main characters on the making of the film and special effects, a music video, and a picture gallery.

Synopsis

Quote: 927 A.D. The Killer-Blade Army has toppled the ruling dynasty, plunging the kingdom into chaos. The only remaining heir, Prince Jung-Hyun (Lee Seo Jin) is living in exile, unaware of his family's dark fate. Still loyal to the dynasty, the beautiful and deadly warrior Soha (Yoon Soy) sets out to find Jung-Hyun and guide him to become the great leader he was born to be. But with the Army's greatest assassins and the criminal underworld hunting them, Soha and Jung-Hyun are swept into an explosive, nonstop battle of swords, wits and bloodshed as they fight to reclaim the fallen throne.

This sounds like a pretty badass Korean period epic. I wonder if it's better than Musa The Warrior.....

I love the director's previous movie Bichunmoo but the reviews I've read make me wonder if it's a rental more than a purchase

It's original name is "Shadowless Sword" and it was originally released in late 2005. What is it with American studios and adding "Legend"?

Anyway, I hear this is pretty lousy (Musa was special and a rarity):

"Shadowless Sword - 1/5
One of the biggest letdowns of the year. This movie basically rips off every movie from Braveheart to LOTR: Return of the King to Crouching Tiger to House of Flying Daggers, all of which are superior movies to this POS. The ending especially!!! Thumbs waaaaaaaay down."

I may pick it up though as Bichunmoo is great. The HK DVD has DTS, English subtitles but is Barebones. The Korean 2 Disc LE has oodles of extras (plus DTS) but none have English subtitles.

I made the mistake of buying the R4 cropped disc. Madman didn't seem to care, as that was the version supplied from the distributor. Bloody thing changes ratio from shot to shot in some scenes. The UK EIV release NEVER emerged and now finally Warners announce it? It better be uncut and in the correct aspect ratio. Put it out on BD as well, peeps.

And yes, Bichunmoo is sh*t. As is that other Korean period piece with Ziyi Zhang.

I LOVED this South Korean Wuxia flick. It's got style and action in spades. Great visuals (if a bit overdone) and soundtrack mounted on an expansive 2.35 frame. It doesn't hurt that the two female leads are smokin' hot either. Please Warner -- let's see a Blu Ray release also!
