The Little Mermaid (US - DVD R1)
Disney has sent over some early art for a special edition of this underwater flick
Title: The Little Mermaid
Starring: N/A (Animation)
Released: 3rd October 2006
SRP: $29.99
Further Details:
Disney Home Video has released some early artwork for a two-disc special edition of The Little Mermaid, which features the voice of Broadway star Jodi Benson. The set will be available to own from the 3rd October, and should retail at around $29.99. The film itself will receive an all-new digital restoration, along with a Disney Enhanced Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. Extras are expected to include deleted scenes, a "The Story Behind the Story" featurette on Hans Christian Andersen, "The Making of The Little Mermaid", an all-new music video, a sneak peek at The Little Mermaid III, and much more. We'll bring you the full specs at a later date. Stay tuned. For now though, here's some early package artwork. The final version should be pretty much identical, but without the 'New 2-Disc DVD' and 'Limited Time Only' banners.

One of the all time great Disney classics. I bought this when the first batch of disney dvd's came out years back but the picture quality was quite grainy, but this new re-mastered version will be great I'm sure. Roll on October-now if only we could get a 2 disc version of The Jungle Book!!!!
Full specs aren't yet available, but you can be sure that the disc will have an anamorphic widescreen transfer, more than likely with a 1.66:1 aspect ratio.
Jungle Book would be freakin AWESOME if it came out in October! But ill pick this up, makes it a good chick flick
There's also word there won't be a giftset ala cinderella, aladdin and lion king....just fyi.
little mermaid 3? geez....part 2 was already a rehash of the first movie but turning things around and having the girl wanting to be a mermaid instead of wanting to be human....so what's the story gonna be this time? sebastian wants to become a real live boy? lol
but that aside i'm glad to see the original finally get its special edition although i'm disappointed this isnt one of those "platinum" editions because this is the movie that resurrected disney's animated theatrical features throughout the rest of the 80s and through the 90s... but hey least it isnt just a bare bone release again....

Bout time this came out. I've had it on the list since I saw the preview on the Chicken Little DVD. Yes, I'm a Disney nut. Along with a horror nut. Can't be good.
This cover art should change at some point as this is the next in the Paltinum series. 101 Dalmatians and Jungle Book are the two Platinum releases scheduled for next year, May and October respectively.

It's about friggin' time.
I love this movie, it's the first movie I remember seeing ever, well that and Gone with the Wind, go figure...
I'll definitely be buying that, and 101 Dalmations and The Jungle Book.
I also want them to re-release Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Disney's preliminary artwork always has "limited time only" banners only for them to be removed from the final release. Has anyone else noticed that?
it's a shame they are using this new cover art.
nothing will match the orginal VHS's secretly dirty sea castle.
it's a shame Disney has forgotten about Alan Menken. the man was a genius, especially with The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
they need to stop giving him pseudo-c**p like Home on the Range and let him go at another classic tale.

Is it just me or does Ariel have seven fingers on her right hand?
And when you thought they were done with subliminal images... the VHS cover is a classic.
LOL @ 7 fingers comment

I really hope The Jungle Book gets released as a Platinum Edition next year! But it should go along with Robin Hood, not 101 Dalmatians...
And the upcoming release of Dumbo should also be part of their Platinum collection.
I just bought Aladdin, Cinderella and Bambi, and I got Lady and the Tramp when it came out. I'm still p**sing myself for having missed The Lion King and Snow White.

This is one of my all time fav disney film. I`ll definately buy this, but hopefully those banners at the top and bottom are removed before it`s released on the market.
I like the artwork and I can't wait to get this. Now if Disney would only release 2-Disc versions of Pinocchio and the Hunchback of Notre Dame. (I'm terribly p**sing myself for missing out on Beauty and the Beast- my all time favorite Disney Film! My only hope is to buy it for $60 on ebay.)
I Love this movie so glad it is coming out again!
Here's the real cover they will stick on the DVD:

I don't know why they zoomed in on the cover and sent it out rather than just sending out the real one.

Oh my God, Arial has become a mutant from all the toxic waste 'Under the Sea' lol
Another movie you shouldn't watch if you are stoned
my 2900th post - and a poor joke at that

Looking forward to this one. Hope that they release a giftset a la Cinderella, but word is indeed that they are not going to

It's just the art that they use for the in-store posters and ads. They don't try to pass it off as the "real" cover, but do get some more info into the average person's view when they see the image. BTW, the UltimateDisney.com image is just scanned from an in-box pamplet that came with Lady and the Tramp, they mentioned it about a week before LatT was released.

hope they make special editions fer great mouse detective and brave little toaster soon.
Looks like another great "special edition" Disney DVD...
The menus are nice. I want to see the main menu for Disc One though, that should be the best one out of all of them.
