Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced DVD and Blu-ray releases of The Midnight Meat Train which stars Vinnie Jones, Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, and Brooke Shields. The Ryuhei Kitamura directed horror will be available to own from the 17th February. Extras will include an Anatomy of a Murder- the Making of The Midnight Meat Train featurette, a World of Clive Barker featurette, and a Mahogany's Bag feature (?). We've attached the official package artwork for each of the upcoming releases below:

Synopsis

Quote: Struggling photographer Leon Kaufman's obsessive pursuit of dark subject matter leads him into the path of a serial killer, Mahogany, the subway murderer who stalks late-night commuters - ultimately butchering them in the most gruesome ways imaginable.

I'm glad this film is getting a DVD release. Too bad it didn't get better theatrical treatment though.

I'm kind of more interested in hearing a Ryuhei Kitamura commentary. I mean, the guy makes the most over the top action/horror flicks (Versus, Godzilla:Final Wars, ect) I'd like to hear what he has to say about this.
I'd like to hear him apologize for everything he's made post-Versus. Well alright, I'll admit to begrudgingly liking Final Wars, Don Frye as the ships Captain, was an inspired bit of casting and he should do more movies.

Sounds like a love it or hate it flick. I remember seeing the trailer before RAMBO and couldn't stop laughing at the title. I understand that I have the sense of humor of an 8 year old, but Midnight Meat Train?? No one finds this funny?

this movie is simply amazing. i got to watch it for free on demand in hd, and its easily one of the best horror films in quite some time....without being cheap in any way

The good news is Clive says this will be reaching UK shores in February aswell, so won't have to worry about importing! Also, spot the 'Director's Cut' at the top - apparently 2.5mins of extra footage/gore. I saw this in Manchester at a late showing (it also got a piss poor release here in the UK) and I thorough enjoyed it - I think the CGI blood works in the context of how the violence is presented, plus it has some amazing photography, which really kept me interested. As fr the ending - I idn't see it coming at all, so it was a genuine surprise. It's not that scary, the gore is CGI... BUT it is one of the better films i've watched in 2008. Strong 4*/5 film and I highly recommend people see it.

P.S. As for the R1 artwork, it's OK but tbh I preferred the theatrical artwork of him blurred behind the glass and simple white title. Here's hoping the R2 artwork goes with the original poster art.

Read a lot about this in Fangoria, and quite excited to see it. Synopsis is weird though, and I'm not so convinced about Vinnie Jones either (just look at Eurotrip; can anyone say stereotype?)

I was a little disappointed with this.
Enjoyed the first half and just got a little messy in the second. (no pun intended)

Excessive use of cgi bothered me and the ending was just terribly done.

Mediocre all around.

I am renting this on Comcast this weekend. I am so psyched! Screw Lionsgate. Dumping this into 100 second run theaters was the stupidest idea.

Saw this at one of the two screenings (no exaggeration) they had for it in NYC at a midnight screening and had fun. Its no great shakes but it kept me entertained and was glossy and yeah, it probably /is/ one of the better film adaptation of Barker's work. Still, it's quite silly in parts in Kitamura's typical way and shallow similarly but it does the job beautifully for someone that enjoys that kind of c-grade movie. Oh but yeah, some of the acting does get a bit grating: Bradley Cooper gets to be annoying after a while as he has very little charisma. Then again, Vinnie Jones doesn't talk and his character works fine for the most part, though he does really tend to over-emote in his body language, still.

Eh; if this were on TV, I'd rewatch it. TNT, make that happen.

Saw this at a preview screening before the inevitable dump by Lionsgate. Thought it was a decent little horror flick that looked great. Will give this a rent before deciding to buy.

I watched it on FearNet also. Very predictable storywise, but still gritty enough to make it a decent modern horror flick. That is, until the ending which was one of the stupidest things I've seen in a long while. I understand that's how Barker's story ends so I can't blame it too much on the movie, but what a doozy of dumbness. I'll still pick up the movie eventually at a bargain price because it's still worth watching.

Wow, I completely forgot about this not being on DVD yet. I watched it months ago on FearNet On Demand for free. It was pretty good, but nothing special. Better than that average horror flick, that's for sure.

i was lucky enough to see this in the theater (of course it took be about an hour to get to it, it was SO far away) and i really liked it. i'll definitely buy this!

I didn't like it. The effects and the acting were pretty bad, especially the CGI they used whenever they decided to show a subway tunnel. It was still better than the recent entries in the Lionsgate-produced "Saw" series, though, which somehow find a 3,000 theater release each year.
