Beautiful movie with excellent cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and a star-making performance by Q'Orianka Kilcher.
My only problem was that it could have been edited a bit better.

Fantastic I can't wait to see this. I'll be getting the DVD for sure. I hope it will be worth the 5+ months wait.
Will it be the shorter 135 minute USA cut or the 150 minute DC though? Yep it was cut in the US as pre-release audiences thought it was to long. I believe internationally it was uncut.
The UK distributors decided to drop a bomb and only release this on VERY limited release in the UK. I've wanted to see it for months.
You'd think they want us to get hold of a bootleg, idiots!

Especially when you look at the extras for previous Mallick films, virtually nothing.

I finally managed to see this in the cinema last weekend in the UK. It was the 150 minute cut.
I liked the cinematography and the soundtrack more than the actual content, but it definitely had its moments. I would still buy it as it looked beautiful and the hour long doc sounds ok too.

I got to see this at the cinema. Erm... the Emporer's not wearing any clothes really. It's Malick. And that's exactly what you get. It just completely lacks the sense of awe present in his other films. Maybe he should have waited another couple of decades. Having said this - I'll buy it and give it another go.
i'll buy this, I fell to sleep near the end sadly and I loving it
I hear this will be the 135 minute cut btw. Fingers crossed the UK R2 will be uncut but that will mean more waiting :-|
i might give this a watch but it would probably bore me but it's got colin farrell and I love him<3 whoa that girl is as old as me and she got to make out w/ colin! NOW that is luck, you wouldnt have to pay me!!
Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn.
I heartily enjoyed the film, and Malick's approach to the material. I thought it was absorbing, methodical, and uniquely beautiful. At the same time I don't blame those who didn't care for the film. I've actually never really cared for Malick before, but this is one effort that really worked for me (I was distracted by the never-ending cameo parade of A-listers in "The Thin Red Line."
I'm interested in seeing the longer version (I caught the film on it's wide theatrical release so I didn't get to see the original cut.) I've heard this shorter version is actually more accesible and has a better flow. Any word on multiple versions?

I don't even remembered seeing this in theatres..I guess I miss it..oh well! I'll give it a rent. Heard it was good.
Actually, Malick himself decided to further edit the film for pacing reasons. I was able to see the longer version in NY before I saw the current one here in Jersey. I thought the shorter one was actually better because Malick seemingly on cut small, unimportant bits out of scenes. It just felt smoother and was a great film. I hope they release both versions for archival purposes, but I'd still rather watch the 135 min version.
This never got out to the theaters near me. It's a shame, would of saw it if it did.
Looks super boring and Colin still owes me for the time and money I spent sitting through the piece of c**p that was Alexander. But I'll rent it solely on Colin's presence.
Yeah, its the 135minute cut. Sorry for not making it clear.

I heard that this was either excellent or really bad, I'm intrested in see it.
This is one of the most beautifully shot movies I've ever seen. I was very pleasantly surprised with this one for some reason, even though I loved all the other Malick movies I've seen, I guess it was the fact that he wanted to re-edit it after it was released....
I really tried to like this movie. The friends I saw it with all thought it was one of the worst movies they had ever seen. Another couple in the theatre jokingly said, "Lets see it again!" when it ended, and then mumbled about how they would've rather stayed home.
I wouldn't say it was that bad, but it was boring and ridiculously pretentious. A gorgeous film, without intrigue or substance: I'll pass. Nice coverart, though.

It dragged on. It felt longer than King Kong
The movie looks great from the trailers. I liked The Thin Red Line and hope they release a SE of that movie with the deleted scenes and characters Malick cut out. It is shame we don't get deleted scenes since this is the 135 minute cut of The New World.
SUCH A GREAT MOVIE. Screamingly underrated, I hope this makes it's money on dvd. Awesome editing, unconventional, beautiful cinematography & a return to form with the score by James Horner.
IT HASN'T EVEN COME OUT TO AUSTRALIA YET!!!???
Excellent. I heard this was great.
The only real negative I have heard about this film is Colin Farrell's performance. Supposedly it would have been better if Christian Bale had the lead instead.
Erm

We'll get a 3-4 hour long EXTENDED CUT of The New World, surprised the good folks who run this site didn't mention this...
"But, more importantly, she said New Line has agreed to release an extended cut of the film, even longer than the 155 minute cut, to DVD. Again, this was info straight from Producer Sarah Green."
"Green: Terry cut it immediately for DVD and was pleased with the extended version."

Since I'm in no hurry to see this (unlike King Kong), I'll wait till the extended cut comes out.
I thought this film was stunning. I kind of found it to be a counterpart to Thin Red Line. This being a film about celebrating humanity, while Thin Red Line examined the dark nature of it. I also wish Hans Zimmer composed it instead of Horner, he did his best work on Thin Red Line with Malick.
I liked this film.
The first and last 45 minutes were great. But the middle (also 45 minutes long) just dragged on and on... Still, a good movie well worth seeing, especially if you're a history buff or fan of Malick.
