Quote: Powhatan tribal people stare in wonder as three ships approach shore. It’s a story every schoolchild knows; the story of Capt. John Smith (Colin Farrell), Pocahontas (Q’orianka Kilcher). Now, as told by filmmaker Terrence Malick (Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line) in this Extended Version with more than 30 minutes of footage unseen in theaters -- it’s a story you never imagined. Working in part from first-hand histories and adding his extraordinary sense of image and human drama, Malick crafts a visceral, spellbinding tale of the Jamestown settlement, of cultures connecting and of deadly consequences when connections fray. Christian Bale and Christopher Plummer also star.

This film is filled with emotion, beauty, & symbolism. It is one of the best films of the decade, its a shame so many people can only appreciate things that are obvious.

Isn't it usually a dead giveaway when it's called "extended edition" and not "director's cut"?

Didn't Warner say a few months ago everytime they release a film on dvd there will also be a Blu-Ray version to go along with it??
What happened here??
NO BLU-RAY = NO SALE FOR ME!!

I loved this film. I think it to be Malick's greatest effort (closely followed by The Thin Red Line). Days of Heaven was definitely his most beautiful, but the story was terribly cliche. Badlands was a step above. Still, Malick is a genius. I cant wait for "Tree of Life".
Fantastic Film that almost no one saw indeed, let's bring this to Blu-Ray already!

you should rephrase and say young woman because she was just 15yrs old when they made this...crazy huh...next time you watch it, realize colin is making out with a 15yr old...go hollywood.
Ha! I didn't realize that. That is crazy. Colin Farrell is a pedophile. Just kidding.

Yes sir, it is indeed longer than the edit that played in theaters that December. That was roughly 150 minutes long and was mainly put into theaters to be up for Oscar consideration that season. Malick then re-edited the film for the 135 minute wider theatrical release.
I'm eager to see this new cut and see exactly what the changes are. Now just to clarify for some people, this probably won't just be a bunch of deleted scenes inserted back into the movie - For the 135 minute cut, Malick added scenes, took some out, added voiceover - and such adjustments. So I'm very curious to see what's in store for this cut...

I'm just going to go ahead an ignore all the idiots who call this movie boring.
But... does anyone know if this version is, indeed, longer than the original theatrical version (ie. the version that played in like 2 or 3 theatres before going wide). That was the only version I saw, and I loved it. Seen little bits of it on HBO since then, but I didn't really want to watch the whole "shortened" version.
Happy to see a (hopefully) more cerebral version of the flick come to DVD. Would be nice for the original theatrical version to surface, as well.
And for those looking for a longer cut of "The Thin Red Line"... I wouldn't hold your breath. I think Malick is pretty satisfied with the final version. It only took him like a year to put that cut together... I seriously doubt he'd want to go for a new cut.
Here's hoping for more Malick! Any word on that adaptation of "Tartuffe" he was talking about a decade or so ago?

That was me and it's all a matter of taste.
To whoever wrote that the Narnia sequel was boring, I highly disagree. It was one of the best fantasy films I've seen in a while. And, yeah, while The New World was nowhere near being a bad film, it was quite sluggish and boring.

Extended cut?? I hope it's a lot of action and dialogue and stuff, because that was THE most boring two hours I have ever spent in a movie theater! You know it's bad when everyone walking out ahead of you is saying, "Thank God it's over. I thought it would never end!"
Shame, really, since the true story is so amazing. But it certainly made for one exceptionall dull movie.

HOLY C**P! The movie was longer?!?!? That is a terrible thing! This movie was terrible. I do not care how pretty the shooting was. If the movie is boring and not entertaining in the least, it is not a good movie. I bought this blind, watched it, then donated it to the local school history department. I hope they use it more than I did.
No thanks. The cinematography was gorgeous but the movie bored the piss out of me. There is no way I could watch and even LONGER version of this film.
yyyyyyussssss.
by the way, y'all. this 10 part documentary was also on the first dvd. it's nothing special. some funny stories by Christian Bale though.

Oh wow- excellent news. I walked into this movie not knowing at all what to expect, and it completely blew me away. It's one of those movies that I could pop in the player, start it up at any point, and be completely transported.
That said- I'm excited about this, but also have reservations because the first cut was so good. I'll be picking this one up anyways, though.
Not crazy about the artwork. If they're going to go to the trouble of releasing an extended cut of a movie that's not exactly commercial fodder in the first place, why not go with something a little more... oh, Criterion-ish?

I saw this with a friend one day after school. It wasn't what I was expecting but I ended up liking it. The woman who plays Pocahontas (Q'orianka Kilcher) is stunning and Colin Farrell turns in a great performance. The script and directing were great too. I had never heard of Terrence Malick before watching this film and haven't seen any of his other films but after reading some comments I'm interested in checking out The Thin Red Line.
I love the fact that they used the exclusive Best Buy art for the extended edition.
I love this movie! But I get why a lot of people didn't. I will certainly be buying the extended cut though, I could watch this movie forever, I've never seen anything so beautiful.
Really fantastic film. I've been waiting for a new version of the flick since the first one was announced, but now that Blu-Ray is a standard, they simply MUST press an HD version.
One of my favorite movies ever. I've been hearing whispers of this cut since it came out, so it's really awesome to see it finally being released. For sure double dip.
Really is this nesecary WB annouce The Matrix trilogy on blu ray alredy
Great Price, killer artwork and a fantastic movie.I guess I am double dipping. The docu sounds new too.
I wish they would have used new artwork...and that Criterion released this, but I'm still completely sold. This is one of my favorite films of the 2000s, and Malick is a visionary genious.
Loved this movie. I might have to check this out.
Can't wait. This was announced 2 years ago and is finally coming out.
I hope this is a 2 disc set though, as I assume a "10 part documentary" won't be a fluff piece and considering the movie is 172 minutes...

Why not a Blu release? Would have boughten it for sure.
I loved the flick, so I'm sold.
If this isn't released on BD then I will be immensely disappointed. This is an amazing companion piece to The Thin Red Line. Malick is my second favorite director of all time (behind Leone). His films are visual masterpieces. If I were to rank his films on the emotional impact they had on me it would be.
The Thin Red Line
Days Of Heaven
The New World
Badlands
The Thin Red Line
Days Of Heaven
The New World
Badlands
I've added an advert with some artwork
The New World was so good, you know what was boring? The Narnia sequel and Pirates sequels. Malick has never made a bad movie and while I didn't think this was a masterpiece, the extended version should be worth a look.
I wanted to see this movie when it came out, I never got around to buying the DVD so I will just pick this one up
30 more minutes of camera shots panning through the forest and natives swimming in creeks in slow-motion!!!
Im so excited!
Im so excited!
I've heard that the theatrical version is actually superior to this longer cut (that is, if this is the original version Malick first screened before the trimming it down for the wide release.) Still, I'm intrigued. It just might be worth an upgrade.
I guess I'm one of the few who I love this movie and thus I'm anxious to see this extended cut. Good news.
How about a Blu-ray release, this movie screams for it. The scenery and locations were beautiful. Pretty good movie and im interested to see what has been added, but i'll wait for Blu.
I thought it was slow and uninspired. I had to tie myself up and pry my eyelids open to finish it. That's not fair, it wasn't that bad. Just boring. No need to lengthen the boredom for any unsuspecting souls who have never seen it.
Malick is one of my favorite directors of all time. The cinematography of his films is so beautiful and breath taking. Also the stories are also quite deep and entrancing. About time the Extended cut came out!!!Sold! One of my favorite film of 05 too.
Of course, we're all still waiting for an extended cut of "The Thin Red Line"here, Fox. (Different studio, I know, but same director.)
It's a good film, but there's no way I'd go back and watch it more than once.
Extended? Good Grief...... I turned it off half way though because I was falling asleep....
