After getting naked in Titanic and Little Children, Kate Winslet finally got her well-deserved Oscar for getting naked in this. Persistence pays off.....
and they completely deliberately ruined the cover! ugh

thats just a stupid immature way to put it. She got her well-deserved Oscar Award, because she put a lot of thought, mind and soul to her character, the fact she bared her nude body does not posses any awards to whatever actor or actress.

I thought this movie was amazing and Kate gets into her character so well. First day purchase for me
Kate Winslet was amazing here, well deserved Oscar after many incredible performances. I felt though The Dark Knight should have been nominated for Best Picture instead of this. This film is a well made movie, but Best Picture worthy? not imo.
What a horrible cover. First of all, David Kross gave a more searing and brave performance than Fiennes and deserves his name on the cover. Second of all, Winslet should be seventy years old next to Fiennes. Thirdly, I wouldn't call this a "thriller".
The cover sucks. They should have done with the theatrical art (or this really pretty poster of Kate sitting alone in the bath tub).
She is amazing in this and I think The Reader is a great film, but I don't think she should have won Actress for this (she should have been nommed for Revolutionary Road and Melissa Leo should have got Actress) and TDK or WALL-E should have gotten its Picture nom.

OK movie, but certainly not worthy of a Best Picture nom. I also didn't think Kate Winslet was award worthy either. Personally, I think Fiennes was the strongest actor in the movie.

Well neither was Slumdog Millionaire, and it won.

Dreadful film, a TV movie at it's best parts, bad acting, poor story, horribly paced, one of the worst films of the year so far.
How Winslet's absurdly bad performance won an Oscar I don't understand, Jolie was by far the best of the year.

yes slumdog is the most overrated movie in 2008
I read the book in three days, which is amzing seeing how I NEVER read, the book was amazing!!! The Movie was good changed quite a few things from the book, left out some things in the movie that could have served imporant...but still good overall!!!
Kate Winslet deserved the Oscar for this role!!!
Slumdog was NOT and I repeat NOT overated and DESERVED to be Best Picture of the Year!!!
And Yes Kross did outshine Ralph in the movie!

I thought this film was pretty good and increasingly compelling but in the end it did not add up to anything worthy of an Oscar nomination. While I love Kate Winselt and she never gives anything but her best, I thought she was only solid here and stole the Oscar from Anne Hathaway who really stretched herself successfully. The coverart is alright and because of the solid looking extras I may buy this one on Blu-ray when it's below $20 on amazon.
And the winner for biggest w***e of 2008 is...Kate Winslet for the Reader and Revolutionary Road!! Damn, this was on my top 10 worst films of 2008.

I do not find Kate Winslet particularly enticing or talented myself (actually, I find her overacted, false-modesty speeches quite annoying), but...
Just because you do not like her as an actress, or maybe just because she was involved in two films you happen to disregard, you should insult her like that?
I bet you are such a nice person, too.

How did this post get into Slumdog millionaire, when we are talking about The reading? By the way I disagree with your opinion. Slumdog is an excellent movie and I thought it deserved its oscar.

I never gout around to seeing Slumdog, so I can't really compare or say anything.

Yeah, let's stay on topic here please.
First, "The Reader" is no "Thriller". And if you didn't enjoy it, to call it the worst movie of the year or close, is ridiculous. You apparently haven't seen that many films. Kate deserved her Oscar for her performance in it. And I also think the movie itself was worthy of a nomination.
Though I thought Kate was excellent and was worthy of an Oscar the main standout for me was David Kross who gave a great performance. Maybe its because I was expecting so much from Ms Winslet with all the buzz around her.
The quote on the cover is ridiculous, its certainly an engaging film but it ain't no thriller.

Apparently you didn't see Space Chimps or Step Up 2. How could you even call this one of the top 10 worst of '08 when there were so many other worthy contenders?

I'm gonna buy this, but the cover isn't that good. Two pictures that have nothing to do with eichother just fading into the other, naaah.
i must watch this... i missed it on theaters... and to be honest i had no interest at all... but now i do... i wanna see that OSCAR WINNING PERFORMANCE... =)
I wonder if Ralph gets to fly in a plane (referring to nakedness)

I'll pick it up.
