Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced DVD ($27.96) and Blu-ray ($34.95) releases of The Road for the 25th May. Extras will include a commentary by director John Hillcoat, deleted and extended scenes, a Making of The Road featurette, and 2 theatrical trailers. The Blu-ray release will also include BD-Live features that connect you to real-time information on the cast, music, trivia and more. "The Road" is definitely one of the best films to come out of 2009, right up there with "District 9" and "The Hurt Locker". The relationship between father and son is beautiful, particularly set against such a dark backdrop. McCarthy should be proud.

Didn't really like it. Something about it was so contrived and boring after a point. The acting was okay, but nothing worth an award. I was disappointed after all the hype.

My movie of 2009 has arrived. I hope they use the cover of Viggo clutching the boy covered in ash
I was on the fence. It did have a misleading trailer though and it had like 3 moments of PURE tension that i wish the entire film was like that. I do think its worthy of a rental for those who didnt see it
i wanted to see it badly but didn't gotta see it for sure when it comes out on dvd

The performace of Viggo and the boy are mesmerizing. The film is utterly depressing but it grabs you where a good film should grab you, right by the throat. A million thumbs up !!!!

Heard the book was really good, but I don't really have the urge to go see what is probably a really depressing movie!
The book is a a drag, the movie is a drag. But both are fantastic.
When you are a father and son struggling to survive in an apocalyptic future, it's not gonna be sunshine and rainbows. Under the circumstances, I think this is a truly uplifting and hopeful movie.

Finklestein, did you direct this? don't be douche because people didn't like something YOU liked. i saw this is theaters and i too didn't care all that much for it. it's VERY repetitive (boy and dad search for food. boy asks about cannibals. they run from danger/cannibals. repeat. lather, rinse, repeat.). i DO think Viggo deserved to be nominated for this though.
This movie had quite a success here in Europe.

It was about the journey the father and son take in a world with no hope. How is that dull and filled with nothing? That's what was the point of the movie. To make you feel empty and hopeless.

i hate that kids face in the artwork
Thought it was ok, kid was somewhat annoying, although not at "Jaden Smith" levels (thankfully). Not exactly sure why/what Charlize Theron was doing in the film.. They could have cut out her part completely and I don't think it would have hurt the story at all. Some familiar overlap with the Book of Eli.
Worth a rental, not sure I'd buy since I don't see why anyone would want to watch it more than once.
